bmw e30 ecu chip install - step by step + RESULTS

Having previously gone all out on a full engine build with CP high compression pistons, extreme cams, solid lifters, individual throttle bodies and stand alone ecu on my last e30 318is at a cost of £10,000 - I have decided to remain reserved and to see what bolt-on mods there are available and see what they do...
So here is an ecu chip, how to install and results guide.

*I was recommended that the chip should be installed alongside an exhaust system, as the exhaust on the stock e30 318is is apparently "very restrictive", I have the exhaust system to fit, but I wanted to fit the ecu chip first to see what it did on its own and to document what works and what does not...

Aftermarket chips rarely work well with an M42 and even with the best will in the world you'll never see an increase of 15bhp on a normally aspirated engine. Usually they just increase the rev limit and mess with timing advance, which is why so many running issues can occur. Best way of increasing power on an M42 is to contact Bruno at BDS Motorsport and get one of his intake plenum and remap.
