if you want to hear more of their stuff i recommend Yuve Yuve Yu or their cover of Sad but True from metallica. Yuve Yuve Yu is incredibly catchy and i definitely recommend switching the english subtitles on because the song just hits that much harder when you know what they are saying. same goes for wolf totem actually
5:15 the 2 stringed instruments you are discussing are called Morin Khuur (horse head fiddle) and is usually played in a sitting position, the HU have theirs customized to be played while standing. Traditionally the Morin Khuur’s “strings” are made from the tail hairs from the player’s own horse to bind instrument to player. The “Male” (thicker) string has 150 hairs, the “Female” (thinner) string has 130 hairs. It’s said that the Mark of a Master Morin Khuur player is they can mimic a horse’s neigh/whinny and Falcon cries with the instrument.
Mongolian folk combined with rock/metal, using traditional Mongolian instruments along with standard guitar bass and drums, and yes, throat singing. The 2 string being played with a bow is a Morin Khuur or horsehead fiddle. The 3 string being played like a guitar is a Tovshuur. The Tumur Hhuur (jaw harp) and Tsuur (end blown flute) are a couple other instruments used in other songs. They are awesome live too, saw them open for Halestorm a couple years ago. Wolf Totem is one of several songs that they had redone ,with new English lyrics and guest vocalists. Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) joined them on this song's remake. Song of Women was done with Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), check that out. They have also covered Metallica's Sad But True, in Mongolian.
"The 3 string being played like a guitar is a Tovshuur" What took me far too long to notice (multiple videos and many moons), was that the tovshuur was shaped like a bow and arrow. Blew me away when I finally noticed it was a full on "How the fuck did I never notice that before?".
Please reference that.. but the Mongol without doubt one of the most effiencent (sorry english isn'y my first)..As far as I've seen in actual (not slander writings) the empire became as a never ending attack on them.. Gengish was a man who was misunderstod.. In our times he would be called a hero! He protected his land and expanded when accted upon.. Gengish could have taken all of (modern) India he didn't but wanted to revenge against an personal attack agains the small Mongolia we know today!
The lyrics of this are hundreds of years old. This was a battle hymn/poem writen by one of Ghengis Khans sons. They just brough it to modern times with music and made it into this awesome song. I highly reccommend checking out more of them...especially Song of Women with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm.
Great reaction as always. Here’s some stuff I read. Mongolia has been invaded but never conquered. It’s the most sparsely populated country. 30% of the people are nomadic. The president of Mongolia was one of the bikers. Genghis Kahn and the Mongols took over more contiguous territory than anyone ever. If you joined them their reputation protected you. If not, you died.
These guys have been my favorite band of the last few years. Their first album(which this song is from) is fantastic, and their second album is even better. I hope you explore this band further, they have so many amazing songs.
The Hu 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥 Check out their cover of Metallica's Sad But True The 3 stringed "guitar" is called a tovshuur The horse-headed bowed instruments are called Morin khuur, aka horseheaded fiddle This singing style is referred to Mongolian throat singing
Another string instrument that sounds good in many music types is the Hurdy Gurdy. The Hurdy Gurdy was even the main instrument used in the intro song for the series Black Sails.
Saw these guys when they came down under. Their show was absolutely amazing and the energy with them and the crowd was absolutely insane. The bass and the throat singing in the crowd could be felt more than heard.
10:26 Interesting Information: In an interview the HU revealed that “The Wolf Totem” is actually part of a 12th Century “poem” written by one of Chinggis Khaan’s (Ghengis Khaan to Westerners) sons, that they shortened and put to music.
Hello. I strongly recommend Black thunder part1, part 2, part3/Bii biyelgee /Their own original version/. You guys never dissappoint this. It's like watching real movie...
The 2 string instrument is a horse fiddle and when you want to know, why it is named that way, there is a part in their first song Yuve Yuve Yu where you will find out.
I knew it was only a matter of time 'till you got around to The Hu. Another The Hu song I bet you'd like is "Song of Women" featuring Lzzy Hale (I don't think you've heard her yet have you? That would be another good singer to check out).
The Hu have done some collaborations with artists from the West. To see the band and instruments more closely see their song “Mother Nature” featuring LP. Enjoy !
The Hu did a song with Lzzy Hale from Halestorm called Song of Women. It is without a doubt the greatest tribute to women I have ever heard. It is powerful beautiful and true. You guys should listen to it, especially Lulu.
Bloody hell we had to fight those (explicit) for centuries overhere in Europe. Glad we're friends now. (I just knew dad/grandpa would absolutely love it :)
Another great indiginous rock song yall could react, which also features throat singing, is called "Altay" by Ummet Ozcan X Otyken. Ummet is a male thoat singer and Otyken is a female Siberian group.
Now you`ve been introduced to The Hu, you really have to react to The Hu featuring Lzzy Hale-Song Of Women, such a powerful song which you will all love.
Theres a version of this song with the lead signer of Papa Roach in it as well others. Black thunder with Bad Wolves, yuve yuve yu with From Ases To New and Song of Woman with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm.
Heyyy you guys found The Hu!... Might I suggest you guys take a listen to their new song "Mother Nature" in collab with Laura Pergolizzi? Do keep the subtitles on because their lyrics are so beautiful and the video is out of this world 😊 It's nice to see 3 generations come together and experience new things together. keep up the good work and best of luck for the future endeavours!
The voices are the traditional singing of the Mongols. Basically it's the same as the Groals in metal. They also combine it with a whistling sound from the vocal cords, making a two-voice chant. This is not always good for the vocal cords: Traditional Mongolian Ethnic Music Group "Khusugtun" (Хөсөгтөн) The Mongols are still largely nomads today. Communities do not have to be a permanent settlement, but can also refer to itinerant nomadic groups. In the Middle Ages, they conquered large parts of Europe and Asia on horseback and created the largest contiguous empire in history. The British Empire was larger but spread across the world. Of these, only a small buffer state remains between Russia and China. Their nomadic life has given them a reputation for learning to ride first and then walk. In fact, as small children they are tied to the horses while they move around. They grew up on horseback and are therefore excellent riders. The HU - Yuve Yuve Yu
If you like the tribal mixed with modern stuff I highly recommend checking out Otyken (Oh-too-ken), they have a great collaboration with Ummet Ozcan called Altay. They are members of a small tribe of people from Central Siberia and I can't get enough of their music.
Instrument call it horse fiddle. But it depends on which nation or folk group you are there is Ikel, snake fiddle, swan fiddle and king fiddle etc. It’s syster to the harpa, violin and modern guitar I 🤔 this two strings symbolize a man and a woman also symbolize a life
This is an excellent video. The video they did with Jacoby from Papa Roach does the main verses in English primarily, but the Mongolian throat singing is by far better. I love this band. If I'm not mistaken, the instruments that the 2 men are playing are supposed to be played sitting. They had to re-learn how to play these standing up. The guy who isn't playing an instrument actually plays a flute-type instrument as well as the thingy that sounds like a spring (I Don't know what it's called) that is plucked at the mouth.
excellent reactioin! they have many great songs. yuve yuve yu, jinghis khan, black thunder and many collabs as well. Love to see you check out "a woman's song" they made together with Lizzy Hale. Beautifull and emotional. I think you'll love it.
I wasn't impressed with that one. They all looked like they were having a lot of fun, and the sound was good, but the English lyrics are middle-school lame.
How about "The Guess Who" from Canada. Anyway I really like Hu..........Great band with such a unique sound. Great battle song! I even request this on live battle gaming streams. They all love it!
If you want to really see the entire band try their song from the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order th-cam.com/video/oJZfEh3EciU/w-d-xo.html It is wicked good and the last 2 minutes are the theme of the mongol army as it swept across the plains terrifying everything before it.
You should check out the studio version of "Sugaan Essena". They wrote that one for the video game "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order." The cool part is they created an entire language for it with the Lucas Arts people. th-cam.com/video/oJZfEh3EciU/w-d-xo.html
My wife and I have seen these guys in concert twice....EPIC shows. So much fun.
What's more terrifying than a Mongolian on a horse?
A Mongolian on a Harley Davidson!
if you want to hear more of their stuff i recommend Yuve Yuve Yu or their cover of Sad but True from metallica. Yuve Yuve Yu is incredibly catchy and i definitely recommend switching the english subtitles on because the song just hits that much harder when you know what they are saying. same goes for wolf totem actually
I'd also add Sugaan Essana, the one they did for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

I love that the guy in the middle is just sitting there, quietly 'Oh Yes.'
Can you imagine being on the Steppe and hearing this coming at you? 😬. The HU Rock!!!!
They do an awesome throat singing. They put on an AWESOME show.
The animals they were referring to are the terms for battlefield tactics.
These guys have been my favorite band of the last few years. Their first album(which this song is from) is fantastic, and their second album is even better. I hope you explore this band further, they have so many amazing songs.
that was Mongolian throat singing . There's one with subtitles. Love these guys, they are bad ass to the bone
Woman's Song - Hu and of course the other songs people have recommended
The Hu 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥 Check out their cover of Metallica's Sad But True
The 3 stringed "guitar" is called a tovshuur
The horse-headed bowed instruments are called Morin khuur, aka horseheaded fiddle

That instrument called MORIN KHUUR in mongolian, made with 2 strings by hors tail hair . On the top side there's hors head figure.
I saw them the other night in Tacoma when they opened for Iron Maiden and I was blown away. They were so much more heavy live.
Another string instrument that sounds good in many music types is the Hurdy Gurdy. The Hurdy Gurdy was even the main instrument used in the intro song for the series Black Sails.

Dude, no Australian says down under.
I would recommend alien weaponry "kai tangata " and Shepard Reign "LA Manu" it's polynesian metal.
'Le manu"

5:38 the “Guitar” is a Tovshuur (3 stringed Mongolian Lute), the one you see has been customized to resemble the Mongolian Bow & Arrow
Head nodding commences:). Its called Mongolian throat singing btw. One of the many variations of throat singing.
I knew it was only a matter of time 'till you got around to The Hu. Another The Hu song I bet you'd like is "Song of Women" featuring Lzzy Hale (I don't think you've heard her yet have you? That would be another good singer to check out).

Great reaction, all! Hu is a unique sounding group. Song of Women featuring Lzzy Hale is pretty good.
Look at the “guitar” closely and you’ll see that it’s a bow and arrow.
0:38 Actually…… James was close. HU is the root word for Human in Mongolian, the actual word for human is “Hun” (pronounced Hoon).
