    This is a great product as can be expected from a company like Vallejo. One thing I would recommend though is thinning this paint with the Vallejo thinner like you would with other acrylic paints. Also, because this primer has a relatively quick drying time, I always add a 1:10 ratio of Vallejo Retarder Medium to my mix - my tip is never clogged!

    I just used Vallejo primers today for the first time, the grey sprayed really nice, the black kept clogging the airbrush. I used Vallejo flow improver with both and sprayed around 30psi with the same airbrush. I'm a fan of the grey but not the black, maybe I'll just use it for brush painting as it is too much of a pain to spray it.

      Kinda late now but it could be your pretty high PSI - lots of air=faster drying. I spray black with 0.4 nozzle and 24-28ish PSI and it's one I have 0 issues with... Meanwhile gray dries and spits :^)

    A good thing about the black version of the primer is that you can use it as a shadow coat and then apply some flat white paint on as a highlight creating shades on tanks, gunpla airplanes, millitary cars etc.

      @@vallejocolors the truth is that your products work perfectly. I use acrylics because I am allergic to oil paints and solvents. and using them makes me very ill. Additionally, you make guides as they should be. encouraging hobbies. there are too many channels on the Internet with dozens of techniques, molding chemicals, photo-etched sheets, wires and sophisticated tools. Then surprise that there are no new modelers. I, like many other find that blackthe doesn't stick and scratch off even after 5 days and the white at the same pressure starts bubbling for no reason?

    • @vallejocolors
      @vallejocolors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Daxster499! Applying the Primer in various layers is recommended, but before that, clean your model with water and mild soap to get rid of any release/demolding agents, then let it dry completely. The recommended compressor settings are around 15-20 PSI or 0.5 to 1 kg and you have to use thin layers and let them dry before applying the next one.
      Regarding the bubbles, it indicates that your airbrush is clogged :) You have to clean it well. You can use a few drops of retarder medium to prevent the primer from drying faster.

    One trick I've found is thinning 1:1 or 2:1 (mix to golden airbrush medium). This being mixed outside of the airbrush in a separate container and being poured in small quantities into the airbrush. It doesn't impact the adhesion, makes the coat a little more matte, and extends the amount primer. I don't get tip dry in this mix for about 20-30 minutes. But I'm also cleaning out my cup before I refill so that might be changing the numbers. I'm going to try just adding a drop of retarder to pure vallejo (which works fine for me at about 30 psi for about 10-15 minutes before tip dry.)

    Vallejo Primers are great... as paint. I do not believe they warrant the title primer however. Although they give great coverage and dry in a relatively short amount of time they do not adhere well to plastic or metal surfaces. If someone was to apply masking tape to the tank model presented in the video, a majority of, if not all the primer under the tape would peel off like a bad sunburn. Vallejo makes a wide range of many great products (Metal Color stands to be mentioned) however, I think the Primers need some further work done to them.

I warm the bottle by sitting it in my bathroom sink, with warm water for 5 to 15 mins 2. good shaking 3. Play with the pressure and distance - I spray around 20 PSI, but sometimes higher. 4. Sometimes, this works great, sometimes I still get drying tip within a mins 5. my primer bottles are year old, though i have seen nothing that says they get 'bad' with time. 6. So now I am thinning with thinner and this helps. I do not have a ratio yet, but on youtube i have seen the following 50/50 mix of thinner to primer, 25/25 (thinner, water) and 50 primer.

      Only two bottles had to be replaced: Gold 066 and Bright Brass 067. All other more then 100 colours could be revived. A hint: Put a nut M5 (stainless) in each bottle to mix the liquid. A nut is better than a ball, the ball may stuck in the outlet of the bottle.

      Mold release agent should be really well washed before priming. I had really bad results when I was doing an half as*ed job to clean the models before priming.
      And you should let it dry, in my experience, around 24 h before painting if you intend to drybrush... an 1 week before the primer completely adheres to the surface and can be sanded or filed. I have never used masking tape, but I supose that if I can sand it after one week, masking tape should be no problem.
      My experience was while appliying the primer with a brush (I have not yet primed with an airbrush, and that is why I watched this video) but I supose there won't be much difference in the super long drying time before it cures completely while appliyng with an airbrush.
