I'd say that rather than "redefined" it, it refined it. The thing I really liked about Andor, unlike so much of the other Disney SW stuff, is that it didn't seek to change anything or retcon anything. It merely looked at what we already knew about from another angle, and with a more powerful lens. A view into the darkness of what the Empire actually was and what life under its jackboot was really like. An answer to the question of "why did a successful rebellion arise in the first place?".

tbh the empire did deliver on its promise to provide safety. The space pirates and criminal empires that plagued the Republic were either completely wiped out or forced into hiding. In fact, after the empire fell those pirates and criminal empires returned under the new republic. I feel like Disney over-villainizes the Empire and forgets that many people's lives actually improved thanks to the Empire and why some people prefer the Empire over the New Republic.

It's the future of Star Wars.
REAL well-earned spectacle, with terrific dialogue and characters and situations [that Imperial prison will NEVER be forgotten!]
      Brilliant locations and sets.
It seems to have had quite the budget! ... it showed. And it was money well spent.
      Beautiful from start to finish.
And despite what all of the professional nay-sayers on TH-cam profess now, Andor has broken the seige of poor Star Wars shows.

@@zacknair6202 Mon Mothma from this show (Genevieve O'Reilly) has been put in other Star Wars shows; that's the effect her Andor performance has made.
And Andor is up for a sure-thing Emmy! (haha .. hope so, it deserves it)
It suggests that the galaxy far, far away was vast, and not just centered around the Skywalker family - more like Han Solo says:
"I've been from one end of the galaxy to the other, and never seen anything that makes me believe in The Force/whatever ..."
I want to see loads more shows with completely brand new characters, on planets we've never seen before, having to deal with the Empire on their doorstep
Each with a terrific 12-episode story to tell, in the same beautifully detailed way as Andor.
Brilliant characters, brilliant dialogue that stays with you forever, superb practical sets, and - when they happen - amazing set-piece action scenes, each deserving of the buildup.
And, yes, maybe with Force-sensitive characters who don't even realise it themselves until the finale - like Chirut from Rogue One (although he very well knew he was a Force user)
The universe is big enough for that - and it's infinite. Potentially the gift that always keeps on giving.
Mature Andor-style Star Wars content is the way forward. But don't you dare suggest that we're abandoning the kids ... I know as a 7-year-old I would have LOVED Andor!
This idea that Andor shuts out children is completely wrong - it has the opposite effect, it makes them MORE interested in Star Wars!

Despite the fact that Andor is a great show, it doesn’t really feel like the original trilogy. This series retained all visual stylistic elements of classic Star Wars (uniforms, equipment, vehicles, droids, etc.); but at the same time, it has completely discarded the “oversimplified fairytale” style of narration which is one of the most definitive features of this franchise.
But, although I have problems with seeing Andor and other canonical SW content as a part of the same franchise, I have enjoyed this show. Unlike most of Star Wars films and series, it gave real, understandable motivation to fight the Empire to the protagonist, not just naive striving for abstract ethemeral “freedom”. I look forward to watch the 2nd season and I hope it won’t fall flat.

That's the crux of the whole thing, isn't it? The Empire holds the monopoly on violence, like any powerful government does. What sets them apart, what makes them so dangerous, is the fact that they will _use_ that violence wantonly just to make a point, or even just to keep themselves amused. Even the ability to destroy an entire planet and billions of people in an instant is used _just because they can._ The Empire fully subscribes to the philosophy that weapons are made to be used. Merely being ready for war isn't enough for them, they _demand_ war to justify their own existence. And when you rule the entire galaxy, the only people you can make war with... are your own.
But at the same time, they are fucking _terrified_ of fighting a real war, one that pits them against a force that won't simply be swept away with a single act. They crave violence, but they cannot handle being hit back. They can destroy an entire species just to cover up some obscure piece of information, but a mere act of robbery that would barely even be registered in the treasury causes the entire Empire to piss itself and reflexively grip its metaphorical sword, jumping at shadows and wondering feverishly where the next attack will come from.
The Rebellion was a relatively small scale conflict, certainly nothing compared to the heights of the Clone Wars, but it won out because it was like a knife in the dark, darting under the Empire's clumsy claymore and sticking it right in the lungs. That was what the Empire was so afraid of. It was geared to fight a war with the entire galaxy, but it _was_ the entire galaxy itself. How can something fight itself and win?

This was amazing! I think it's telling how little we saw Jedi/Sith and how much Andor was used for this edit. The story of the empire isn't about space wizards, it's about normal people and oppression, which is what Andor did so well. This is why I think that Andor is some of the best star wars content as well as some of the most important content for flushing out the universe.

The best part about Andor is that, most of us watch Star Wars from the heroes/villians POV, imagining ourselves in their shoes... while quietly knowing we'd all probably just be regular Joes and Mary-Sues without force powers or armies behind us.
Dealing with the pain of living under oppressive rule & seeing what 'normal' people like Cas and Nemik could do gives far more meaning to why a rebellion started & gave us all something to relate to

People have to understand that if you truly want peace, you have to prepare for war. because there are people out there who dont care about youre opinion and about peace so they dont give up theire rule of power so that the violence continues. Do you understand it all now? Its about keeping order to keep peace. The Empire needs no war and violence if there are no people out there who like war. Oh, and btw, Long live the Empire!

i love what andor did so much. We always had that yoda quote "do or do not, there is no try." But now we have something better, more powerful, more hopeful: "Try. Just try." Because that's all one can do in the face of oppression and fascism. The rebels are not the jedi order. The rebels are people who fight for their basic rights, for their personal freedom, for the ability to live. They have no guarantee of victory. Onky hope. But rebellions are built on hope. And if you keep hoping and trying, eventually there can be victory. "Know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try."
