instead of tweezers, use a power drill with a careful finger on the trigger. and being able to easily reel the tape back in, you can now pull out and mess with more tape (ball it all up at once, heat it, stretch it, scratch it, chop and splice pieces easily) find old tapes by professional musicians and do this and record over them so many times the original sounds are lost and you're only left with the artifacts and strange frequencies.
I got a whole tape through a pair of pliers, and back. Is it enough to get that really dirty, messed up sound? If not, how many times would you recomend doing it (making it go through a pair of pliers that is)?
Definitely going to try this some time. Need to get down to the thrift store and look for some tapes and a spare player. You think they'd have a player? I know they have tapes. I've seen a dozen of em.
Dude, right on! I'm not trying to distort any of my cassettes (just the opposite actually), however you demo was AWESOME! Thanks for adding the bit about the magazine & chloroform, you gave it a classic Serge A. Storms feel to it.
I wouldn't do that. But I would transfer them to CD. My tapes do not squeal at all or very much. I wish I could clean tapes up before converting them to CD so that I wouldn't hear a squealing noise even once, not even on Side B/the second half.
Michael Oster can't tell if it's stretched but it sounds like a filthy head. Maybe some polyester reel to reel tape would be good for stretching effects.
That's a very good question. This is an interesting video, something i wouldn't do to my cassettes. I took care of em treat them like new. and the sound quality's incredible. Its like your listening to CD.
Guys... don't you understand he is doing just a little portion of the tape so he can sample stuff? or atleast thats how I would use it, sample the tape noise, or put there a piece of music I want to sound a little "wasted" on a song and I'd do this process... be creative. Best regards!
deejaysoundsgood I can see this being applied for music and audio production purposes. He's obviously using a brand new tape with nothing on it. Lots of Lo-fi enthusiasts enjoy this kind of stuff. It's about the grittiness, not the quality.
you should have just swipe a powerful magnet over the large part of tape on one reel. .. this is the only way tapes used to sound abused is when fools let them near speakers or recorded over official tapes that where sold in shops especially albums. . come on Bro, ya gonna do a TH-cam video at least find out exactly what the 80's and before was like, cd's came in and tapes stopped getting used so fast, not me but majority stopped using them and right after all retailers of official mainstream musical artist were on cd's, tapes silently went stale and ever manufacturers focused more on cd players and the digital like minidisc that soon had an add on due to the early optical laser support enabled high speed data to be transfered over light to a pc sound cards like soundblaster cards at the time..
Drachenreiterklaus Why is it stupid? It creates some very interesting and organic sound effects that could be used in music production or film sound. Did that not occur to you or are you just extremely narrow-minded about artistic creation?
this mans casually pulled out a rag soaked in chloroform and a fully loaded mag, wtf r u doing in ur free time

I have those tapes and there really good lol
Is that a velbon tripod?
thank you for doing this vid! its things like this that there often isnt a video for but you really want to know!
Why is no one talking about the obvious kidnapping he's planning
that will destroy the cassette tape and it won't work anymore
In my opinion that didn't accomplish much. I would have much rather used the tape for its intended use. Anyway, where did the magazine come into play?
try making tape not going to the tape speed governer(between two rollers..
I use to do that alot back in the early 90's. I was a kid and loved to do it.
Its probably easier to find old already worked out tape and make a new recording on it.
Why didn't you try this on a TDK tape their cheap af
justin mckenzie n

He isnt doing this to improve sound of a tape or anything,he just wants to make some interesting noises
what a waste of time actually, I thought you'd put that on a deck to hear it
The audio part is on my website and it's worth a listen. www.f7sound.com/tapebreak.htm
Michael Oster can't tell if it's stretched but it sounds like a filthy head. Maybe some polyester reel to reel tape would be good for stretching effects.
Why the hell would anyone want to do this? Is it a hipster or relic thing?
Okay, how and where would you employ the chloroform, Victoria's Secret, and 9 mm hollowpoint magazine
It sounds like a microphone in the wind..
is this a 12 year old with a deep voice? cant tell
Why wreck a good tape

Wacko
I don't want to know you. You post about some you know nothing about. Hell I hope you dont look like you post pic. How many tapes you have?
Bic pen works better to wind.

get a deck with a bad pinch roller..and it's automatically done for you....strange but cool..
i think i'll try this!
I had a similar idea to this CHEERS~!!!
no tape ever sounded abused Bro. . are you really 30 years old? haha
Haha, cool effect!
You should at least let us hear that tape, don't you think we all want to know how your cassette sounds ? bad video
This is so unbelievable stupid.
I agree with you 100%

Well, i have some creativeness too: I shit on a chair and put the into a museum , with the title of shit on a chair. Enough creativeness ?
