Nice one Jon, reminded me when I went fishing with my dad on the Thames at tadpole and caught some cracking bags of Chub, Dace Roach and Perch, sadly I lost my fishing buddy in Feb 2023, miss those red letter days dad
So sorry for your loss, Matt. Hopefully it is some consolation that you still have memories of great times spent together on the bank.
Another great video. Beautiful roach . Love the stalking type of fishing but i do luke the comfort of my box . Great film.
Glad you enjoyed it
..a big hug from italy...natural venue are the best!!!!
Greetings from England. I hope the weather in Italy is better than it is here at the moment!
Such an awesome fishing trip. Thank you for the great tips.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video Jon . You can't beat a bit of the old white stuff in winter 👍
Absolutely
Well fished Jon. 2 Roach, a Bream and a nice Chub. Fantastic. Makes you think whats possible in the summer. Another fantastic Video showing the variety of places we can fish. Thanks Jon. Cheers
Thanks Peter. I’m hopeful of catching a few of those roach now. I’m sure there’s some specimens in there 👍
All right?! That were bloody marvelous.t
Glad you enjoyed it 👍👍
Nice video Jon, good to see some good fish
Glad you enjoyed it Pete
Well done on catching some beautiful fish Jon on what was a really cold session from the looks of it. Love to see you fishing rivers and canals as it mixes things up for us and yourself and keeps your mind active mate. Look after yourself especially in these cold times 👍
Thanks Stephen, hoping it warms up very soon! 🥶
Well done, Johnny boy nice to watch this🎉🎉🎉❤ thanks😁👌🎣
Appreciate that thanks Paul
Think we all enjoyed that including yourself Jon. One bleak from 4 sessions for me. It’s a testing winter at the moment. Greetings from Yorkshire. 👍
You’re lucky to see a bleak in January. Thames is full of them in summer but they’re elusive now… and so are the roach on a lot of it! Hope the sport and your luck improves.
Excellent video Jon, cracking Chub, well worth the wait.
Glad you enjoyed it Chris
Love this style of fishing. Wandering the river, travelling light. Simple tactics. When the weather allows! Great vid 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely brilliant, really enjoyed it jon. Keep em coming.
Thanks, will do!
Lovely video Jon. I’ve had several outings recently without a bite but got back on the river last week and had some lovely roach including one of 1.3lb keep them coming Jon 👍
Lovely fish. I think there has to be 1lb+ roach in my river
Secret bait bread 😂
Shhhhh! 🍞
Awesome video.. and thanks for the last 3 or 4 vids jon.. ❤❤
My pleasure!!
My style of fishing, love this video. Thanks for sharing your fishing-trip.
You are most welcome. More to come...
You never disappoint, excellent video Jon.
Thanks Neil for the support
Looks like you like pleasure fishing in rivers more then commercial. I can't blame you, i do like beeïng in nature very much. Good filming, pleasure to watch again. Thnx.
Cheers, I think it’s the variety I love. I could never just do one type of fishing all year. But there’s certainly something special about a river.
Great video as ever - I must say you produce some of the best content that covers all aspects of fishing. Please keep it up!
Appreciate that thanks.
Another Enjoyable video Jon. Well put together. Really shows the beauty of river fishing.
The peacefulness & wildlife.
Your Enthusiasm for all types of fishing is to be admired 👍🏻
Thanks Alan 👍
Lovely easy day. Nice fishing 👍
Cheers Dave
Loved the video Jon Took me back Years and years to when i used to fish my local river with bread although no hair rigs at the time Waiting for the next video
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video Jon ! Cheers
Thanks 👍
Lovely video Jon, thanks 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Loved the video Jon, Video's like that to get away from the stress of match fishing is good for the mind, and to just watch the wild life and if your lucky you have a fish or two, Thank you,
Cheers James, hope you are catching a few in this tough old month
@@JonArthur not to many mate it's a bit hard at the moment,
Well, we're halfway through, and there's no rain and howling wind, no ice and snow. I fear the lad is getting soft in his old age. Thanks again, Jon, for taking me out for a fish.
A temporary blip. Normal service to be resumed...
Wow great vid Jon. Thanks. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Great stuff, Jon. I had my first 4lb chub from the Cherwell, many moons ago. One thing I have found that results in fewer missed bites when fishing like you were here is to feed a yard or so of line off the reel just before putting the rod in the rest. Best wishes.
Great tip!
Lovely winters morning fishing a river doesnt get much better
You got that right!
Really enjoyed this one because it's exactly the kind of fishing I do on my local canal. It's an unusual canal, in that it's wide, very deep (12ft in the middle) and pretty featureless. I use liquidised bread in a feeder with a thumb nail sized bit of flake on a size 14 hook. This catches me the larger roach, bream and chub.
Glad you enjoyed it and sound like a nice venue you fish
Its a lovely stretch that ;-).
I tend to fish it on a pin and bolo float. You may be surprised at how many fish are in that section.
Cheers, I'll be back soon hopefully
@@JonArthur beat ya too it!
NIce to see you caught a few Jon, but saddened by the current rating of the Cherwell. On the odd occasions that I fished it back in the 70s, I would have been gutted not to get a good mixed bag of chub, roach and dace. Guess the signal crayfish that plague the Thames and the rivers off it have eaten most of the spawn, while the otters get most of those that survive. I remember catching a crayfish about this time of year on the Thame back in the 80s. It was packed with eggs in the middle of a bitterly cold winter.. After that the roach disappeared and we mostly caught hefty singleton chub - obviously eating crayfish - but not enough of them to get rid of the curse
I think crayfish are a huge national problem
I just love using bread or cheese paste... roving a river...blanking or catching, I don't care I'm out in the fresh air.
Absolutely
Never mind them drop shot hooks Jon ...get some Kamasan B983's ...😁😁😁
I still have a small stash of 983s and have use them a lot over the years, but have a look at those Rage Dropshots and you'll be impressed. I think a lot of the specialist 'perchy' hooks I have accumulated for lure fishing are better for big bait work.
The interesting thing about that section of river between the two locks is that you can fish it in the close season as it’s classed as the canal
Yes that's technically right, however I still daren't. It looks like a river and to all intents and purposes that's what it is, so it's bizarre they still list it as a canal!
Jon, I always thought that Roach did not feed when the water temp was below 7 degrees. Obviously I was wrong, well done on a cold day
Cheers Jerry, Im hoping to see how many roach are catchable there very soon...
As a Thames chub angler the hair rigged bread is interesting..I will have to get my bread punches out of my seat box for next week on old father. Enjoyable as usual John.
Give it a go. I picked it up off Thames legend, Paul Glenfield
@ in my head one way it makes sense but virtually all my chub fishing is done with baits on the hook when tip fish. Certainly something to try out.
Next time the river is fishable. Storm after bloody storm.
Great video mate could you do a video on jigger rig I had good success on dibber rig but really want to fish on jigger this year
Sure thing! Soon as jigger season arrives
Great video Jon. Well done. I’ve fished the Cherwell, you’re right, it’s hard! Have you ever fished the Ouzel? That’s not far from there.
It's on my list to go back there. I shot an article with Michael Buchwalder there many years ago on the free bit
Great vid Jon thx 👍👍
Cant understand why such a good looking river is short of fish 🤔
I’m sure they’re there but it’s the usual thing with a lot of rivers, predation, otters, crayfish etc make them shoal up tighter plus I think there’s stuff going in the river for years that we don’t fully know about.
Nice word salad there, breadier 😂😂 Bream first fish aint bad at all, up this end of the Thames the boys are enjoying some big chub on the Bread ( Clanfield)
Everything's either breadier or maggoty at the moment! ;-)
Reminds me of John Wilson on the wensum winter chubbing
One day I’ll man up and try slugs
A bit of John Wilson about that video.
I just said exactly same loved Wilson on rivers in winter
We all love a bit of John Wilson! "Come on Wilson" and "Oop, we're in!"
👍✌
