    Take us shopping some day. I'd really like to see where you buy ingredients this cheap. In the stores in this area prices have gone up near 20% in the last two years. Almost $3 for an Avocado here.

    Some unsolicited advice: the water from rinsing rice (aswell as cool and unsalted pasta water) is great for watering plants due to the starch. Don’t waste it, use it for watering plants or even for watering your compost 😊

      10 to 15 years ago people in my place can even drink it, add a bit of sugar and they taste very good. Now no one dares to do the same thing, due to excessive of chemical fertilizer and/or herbicide

    Just made this dish. I think my peanut sauce was very thick and rich how would I thin it out without adding water. The chicken was incredible best ever made and I used my grill. Also a tip if you don’t have a mandolin you can use a speed peeler and also if your knife skills aren’t the best you can use a speed peeler with the carrot making it super thin aswell :) great dish tho enjoyed making it

    My husband and I make these rice bowls 5 days a week! We prep once a week and ration each bowl like this: 1 Leaf, 1 green veggie, 1 root veggie (beets carrots etc) 1 protein/legume, 1 fat (usually avocado). It’s really delicious, its helped us lose weight, and we’ve noticed we have a lot more energy during the day. Go team rice bowl!

      @@mochabearry we always eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch, usually eggs and banana for breakfast, lunch is always a big salad, granola bar, fruit, cheese and crackers. Seems boring but I always look forward to it

      @@alleaniim to help w this, get 1 of those cheap "instant cooking pots" fr China, that ppl use to cook hotpot. Might be called slow cooking pots, not sure. I have 1 that has 2 layers, top layer to cook a frozen mealprepped dish, bottom layer for freshly cooked rice. That's your best friend in college.

      This is one of my biggest issues with this guys videos. He does these 'but better' / $x per portion videos that are always super misleading. Like fucking obviously I am going to make a burger better than an underpaid, overworked teenager at mcdonalds if I spend $10 on ingredients and over an hour making it. The point of fast food is the convenience, nobody is pretending it's tastier than homemade stuff. And as for his vidoes like this, the pricing is always blatantly false just to grab clicks from people who actually want cheap meal prep. Idk this guy is just so slimy and disingenuous to me.

    And here I'm starting to realize that I've been eating healthy all my life 'cause Vietnamese cuisine is just divine that way. It turns out we have fresh veggies and other local produce at a very reasonable price all year round. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that prepping the veggies for each meal is really time-consuming.

    Made this with tofu, instead of grilling I just fried up the tofu in a pan, took the tofu out and put the glaze in the pan, let it reduce and threw the tofu back in. I couldn’t find my cornstarch for some reason so it got left out, but it still tasted great and clung to the tofu. The peanut sauce was to die for!! I had the bowl with steamed broccoli, baby spinach and very thin cucumber slices. Sooo good!

      You should really research tofu. Soy is nasty stuff that was promoted by the food industry because it is cheap to grow and because farmers receive government $ to grow it. Search "problems with soy". It block mineral absorption by your body, and is an estrogen mimicker. Unless you use organic, it is most certainly filled with pesticides and is genetically modified.

      @@tashalee4294 I have also read some concerning info regarding tofu. What research did you do and where? I usually research NEJM (New England Journal of Medicine) but am open to researching similar sources.

      EDIT: If we're talking about food sources containing significant amounts of estrogen we may also have to consider cutting flaxseeds, broccoli (most cruciferous vegetables in fact), chickpeas, alfalfa sprouts, berries, garlic, almonds, and dried fruits from our diet.

I’m also not from the US, so your goverment doesn’t really concern me and gmo plants are not allowed in europe, so I don’t even eat gmo stuff. I’m also a woman so that estrogen stuff doesn’t concern me + human bodies can’t even utilise the estrogen from soy it just passes through. Keep your enviroment destroying, cruel carnivore propaganda to yourself.

    Love this episode! Could you do a bit cheaper frozen meal episode? As a student I usually cook a lot of food and freeze it so it doesn’t get bad before I can eat it and would love to have some new inspiration. This ricebowl looks nice but I’m scared the veggies would not be good after defrosting it :) love you content

      the veggies are all fresh so it might help just to cut a day or two at a time? the chicken will kep and the rice if you use jasmine will keep for a good week and keeps its texture as well...always use jasmine rice. but yea i hope josh or someone can help you out

      You can freeze the meats, grains like beans and lentils and the rice, just not freeze veggies, pasta and potatoes because they lost all their properties and flavor

    My boyfriend and I watched this video over the weekend & made it for dinner tonight! We did everything aside from the carrots and green onions, and subbed the soft egg for a fried egg. He said the chicken glaze was better than any bottled glaze he'd ever bought! Thanks for a great recipe!

      @@powdergate The more you can put out up front the cheaper it will be. 25 lbs of rice is cheaper than a dollar a pound but if you only buy one pound it's at least a dollar a pound. But, if all you can afford at the moment is a pound to five pounds look at the price per ounce. Well stored rice never goes bad so it's worth the investment(look up how to do this), you can typically store it in a food grade container for FREE by asking a bakery if you can have their old frosting tub and wash and DRY it out yourself. If your just buying 5 pounds you can also put it in the freezer for three days and just tightly close it after. Not sure of your situation, but God bless. Rice, salsa, and beans are cheap and easy meal, as is rice, vegetables, and eggs. You can literally make rice milk, rice flour, or even rice pudding. It's a good cheap food to learn to work with.

      But… it is. While not *literally* 1 dollar, the ingredients he used to make a serving still add up to $1.54.
      Obviously your grocery bill is still gonna be something like 30 or so dollars. And if you don’t already have the seasonings, eggs, or other things at hand, it’ll add up.
      But the point is, you can make multiple servings for the same amount as you would spend on a single food item at restaurants, or grocery stores.
      For example, you can buy a burger at an expensive restaurant for $15; or you can buy 2 pounds of ground beef for about $8, and the rest of $7 can go to the buns and toppings and more. You’d be able to make at least 6 comparable burgers for $15 at home.

      @snazzoid yeah technically it is clickbait. I overall agree that it can be misleading, intentional or not. One might go in watching the video with the idea that you only need $2, but the reality if far from that.
      Also, the comparison was an example to further the point that if you have the means, you could opt to buy the ingredients, rather than a pre-made item that’ll run around the same value or more

    Before I moved 2 years ago the Chinese restaurant near us had a peanut chicken my kid loved. I’ve tried different variations of peanut sauces and even bought a few and none of them were close enough and they wouldn’t eat it.
    I made yours from this video with half of the sriracha and they love it. I’m glad I made the whole batch.

      Mahahaha honest everything about this video is clickbait the chicken alone is more than $1 and as for his sugar and other ingredients no one buys sugar and soy sauce and carrots per serving that's not how it works...... Some of these cooking channels are as bad as if not worse than some of the makeup channels. Just not as much drama...

      @@boblogiii8869 not only that but many of the items you can’t even buy as a whole product for the price that he put. He put his one clove of garlic for 4 cents and unless you are buying a wasteful amount of fresh garlic (which is what he is using in this video) you can not purchase a clove of garlic for the price. I’m sure because he has a yt cooking channel he is well within his means to buy large bulk of garlic because A. He will use it and B. He can afford it. But anybody else is gonna have to pay for the food normally.
      He has a great channel i just really don’t like seeing these videos by him because if you do the math even if he lived in a cheap neighborhood these prices do not look right. Along with its dishonest claiming you can make this filling gourmet style food (his words) for only $1.54 (or something like that) when it is not possible to spend that amount on 1 serving of the meals he makes. Idk maybe he does the math a different way to manipulate the numbers to be 4 cents for a clove are garlic but either way the per serving prices aren’t accurate or realistic.

      Per exemple in my house u will Always find garlic,carrots,eggs,zucchinis and rice, because all our food is homemade starting from breakfast to all the snacks even chips and marshmallow's , so if i just have to buy the chicken + peanut butter and some soy sauce for the recipe it will this cheap
      If that ain't the case the price of buying everything will be WAY more than the one advertised here

      @@Kay-rl9zw There are usually about 15 cloves in one head/bulb of garlic, and 60¢ per head/bulb sounds like a normal price. If you leave the cloves attached to the head until you're ready to use one, they stay good on the counter for a couple of months, so it's not wasteful to buy a head of fresh garlic. I agree that this is for people who cook at home regularly. He can get some fresh produce (cucumbers and limes) a lot cheaper than where I live farther north, but everything else seems about the same as what things sell for in my area.

    I am definitely going to make the peanut sauce. This bowl is so customizable. Your favorite veggies and I think it would be great with cod or salmon. Or even vegetarian. Just one thing, YOU DO NOT NEED A RICE COOKER TO MAKE PERFECT RICE! There. I said it.

      Statistics trick, even though the ingredients together to buy from scratch is way more than 1$, technically if you portion it out/have the ingredients already it could come out to 1$ but I wouldn't even believe that tbh

    My first rice cooker was abt $14 at either Walmart or Walgreens in Florida. It lasted for 10+ years and only broke when I dropped it
    Anyone who eats rice often (or ever) should get a rice cooker! Make a double batch - plain rice keeps in the fridge for at least 4 days

      Yep, same here! Mine has been to three different houses and is still going strong. You can make regular rice for this bowl, and then do fried rice the next day! Simple, cheap, and great 😋

      I don't fully agree, as a central Asian, we eat steamed rice. And steamed rice >>>> rice cooker cooked rice, if you haven't ever tried it before you need to try out some pulao. Central Asia and parts of South Asia eat pulao all the time and pulao is GOAT level rice. West African rice too, a rice cooker would be WAY worse than their rice.
      My personal rice is trying some kabuki pulao at whatever afghan restaurant you can find

    Can you do a grocery shopping haul and then make several meals from that trip? I don’t know any stores where you can go and buy 16 cents worth of products like corn starch and sugar.

      He's taking how much of a servings worth hes using and subtracting it from the overall total of the bag to get his total. But sugar and cornstarch are both extemely cheap to buy in bulk like that and portion out over time. You could probably buy all of the ingredients he uses in his video for under $30 and have enough to last you weeks if not months. If you have them, asian and mexican markets and grocery stores are great places to get all of these items for next to nothing.

      @@ipapiga What’s the problem with it? 600 calories is a good middle ground though, fits a variety of lifestyles and goals. And the recipe uses mostly healthy ingredients with protein and fats.
      You can very easily customise it for higher calories without much costs, the sauce is cheap as is rice.

      ​@@braines9 He points out in the video he used 3 portions of rice but even with that into consideration and the tiny dollop of sauce without the peanuts on top. You'd still have to give up a chicken skewer to get ~600 calories. (Assuming ~50g of rice.) Which would leave you with ~35g of protein, 55g+ of carbs and 24g+ of fats.
      Presentation is very deceptive. Beautiful, but deceptive. I'd rather see a portion for 2-4 people (whatever he'd need) and mention that straight at the start of the video. Still interested to see where this series goes, this is much more applicable than junk-food recipes for me.

    Josh -Thanks for doing this video. I did a low-calorie and low glycemic diet that helped my lose 58lbs (used your Chipotle chicken recipe to have ready made chicken week-in and week-out; it's fire BTW). So, while calorie counting isn't perfect; it did work for me. Knowing macros helps people and I would love more content like this. I agree with Catherine Gilbert - a "But Healthier" series would be awesome.

      You probably dont need to use colander to wash the rice, just use the rice cooker' pot :) simple and fast. If you eat rice frequently enough, you dont even need to wash the pot, just take old cooked rice out and use the pot to cook new rice.

    This is my favorite recipe! I make it three times a day, but instead of rice I use instant mashed potatoes and instead of gross mismatch of toppings I use butter.

    How to cook rice: 1) On high heat (not the maximum setting of your stovetop), bring *a little less than* 2 cups of water to a boil. 2) While the water is heating, wash 1 cup of rice. Yes, he's right about washing your rice. 3) When the water is boiling, add the rice and stir it in. Cover the pot. Turn the heat down to low. 4) Wait 20 minutes. Don't stir the rice, don't uncover the pot. Just wait, or do other things while waiting. 5) Uncover pot. Done, you have cooked rice without a $100 rice cooker. (They always say "2 cups of water to 1 cup rice," but it's actually better to use just a little bit less water. Like maybe 1 3/4 cups or something.)

      I always put my washed rice into a sausepan with cold water to start and it comes out perfect everytime.. Definitely wash the starch off the rice..

    I appreciate a low calorie dish that isn't shrimp, fish or some other kind of seafood. I am one of the rare people out there who absolutely does not like seafood at all in any way, form, preparation. So it's refreshing to see a recipe like this. It looks delicious!

      Chicken is your friend then. Very versatile and good for you. Red meat is delicious but chicken is damn cheap and healthy when prepared properly. Hell find some of those fish dishes and see how you can substitute chicken in them.

It's just whenever I look up low calorie recipes or whenever a chef posts one or a list of recipes majority of the time it's like shrimp or salmon which is great except for me as a person who doesn't like fish at all. It's nice seeing one with chicken that looks totally amazing.
