How to Repair a Pressure Washer Hose in 6 Minutes (Any brand Gas or Electric)

  • Burn a hole in your pressure washer hose? Fittings leaking? Don't throw it away! It can be easily fixed in a little over 6 minutes with basic hand tools. All necessary parts linked below:
    amzn.to/2jYpam4 - Gates 1/4" Swivel Compression Fitting - I paid $10 for it, but price fluctuates.
    I also found 2-packs of them from an eBay merchant for $15 here if Amazon's prices fluctuate - www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-2-Gat...
    amzn.to/2x2vqug - Gates 1/4 NON-swivel Compression fitting (same as above without the swiveling)
    amzn.to/2ftLkuP - M22 Adapter for Pressure Washer - I paid $7.99
    amzn.to/2wQDWRO - Quick Connect Fitting (optional) I paid ~$8
    husky wrench I used in the video - ebay.us/k2GNtl
    For this repair, I used a Gates 1/4" swivel male compression fitting (specific model linked above) and a M22-1/4" female fitting. Together, these parts were less than $15, and can be used over and over if you repeatedly break your hose (by burning it against the exhaust like I did). You can also add in the optional quick connect fitting above if you want to make it quicker to attach your hose to your pressure washer
    Links above are affiliate links
    Disclaimer: These hoses are under a lot of pressure, and there are inherent dangers to repairing your own hoses. While this has worked for me, there's still risks to do this, and I personally would only use a repaired fitting on the end of the hose that attached to the pressure washer body. Do not use a repaired fitting on the wand end of the hose - if it blows off while using it, it's right night to your body and you could be seriously injured. There are many factors to consider when making this kind of repair (pressure, hose size, fitting size, hose style, etc) so do so at your own risk.

    I received my pressure washer th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQauTxLT0JLSvqkq10rD79TU4k0Vz8zP over the weekend and decided to wait for the sun to come out before firing it up. Was needed to clean the deck. Our last pressure washer broke a couple of seasons ago, and I just hadn't replaced it yet. This one had great comments, so here we are. It was easy to assemble, and the trigger wand is comfortable and easy to hold for long periods of time. The pressure washer worked great and made quick work of the "TN North side algae" that inevitably grows every year. I also washed all of the deck furniture while I was at it... it all looks great! So far I am happy with this purchase. I plan to climb the ladder to wash siding over the next couple of days, will update if I have anything else to add after that!

    excellent video, thank you. I acquired the CORRECT parts and repaired the hose in less than 10 min. The two parts needed ( Gates connector and M22 adapter) cost approx $30. but seeing they can be used over and over again its worth it. One thing I will add, when threading the larger Gates connector sleeve over the hose with reverse threads, work it slowly and be careful not to damage the hose going into the sleeve . I did and it leaked ! I re-did the connection and all is well.

    The purpose of Teflon tape is to fill up the spaces between the joining threads, to do this correct, wind it tightly starting at the end using the full width of the tape on the thread one and a half rotation, pull the tape until it snaps and rub the threaded tape firmly to inbed the tape, never wind it on the thread as demonstrated in the clip as this will cause the tape to bank up and not give you the sealing properties it has been designed for. Other than that all good, although I like to have my Vice bolted down.

      It "can" go on in any direction, but as a Plumber I have personally seen the Teflon Tape bunch up when wrapped against the direction of the Threads and ... leak.
      It is one Tip Off to me that a Novice did the last connection. More so, is when someone puts Teflon Tape on a Fitting that doesn't require one and will actually cause a Leak (e.g. - when a Washer/Gasket is between the two, a Compression Fitting, etc.).
      In summary, I do appreciate that you made this Video --- TRULY DO APPRECIATE IT. All I ask is that you go with the Threads in the future like all of the Professionals do and you'll be one, or continue to be one, too!

    Sweet, you actually read my other comment (before I wrote it here) and actually use the second (and subsequent) shifting spanner/s CORRECTLY by drawing the fixed jaw and main body onto the work to be tightened, allowing the shifted weak jaw to "follow" the tool around (at the right nut/size for the work being tightened).
    All in all - a good instructional video of how to "repair" a pressure hose, but please always use a shifting spanner correctly, (you never know when a fatigued weaker jaw is about to break - injuring the user)

    well this is a fix for one kind of hose, nice system and valuable if you have the parts and tools to do it at a job-site but why does it say any brand when
    this is the lighter hose? The heavier hose's use crimped ends

    • @wlongmore
      @wlongmore 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can be used for any kind of hose, including the more heavy duty 4000 to 6000 psi hoses you're probably speaking of. Remember, after the original crimped-on hose end is removed, it's just a plain old hose, and this fitting is designed to make a compression type seal, that can stand up to the same pressure of a factory crimped on end. Just last week I was literally looking up hose crimping machines/tools for pressure washer hoses, and they are usually in the thousands of dollars, and pretty bulky, so a fix like this is way more practical for most pressure washer users who may rely on their equipment to make a living.

    Would be ok, but the repair fittings are almost as much as just buying a new hose. Also need to double check you get the correct size adaptor fitting...Some use 22mm/14mm some use 22mm/15mm. Most size issues arise at the pump end, some pumps have 22mm/15mm at the pump outlet, so using a 22mm/14mm fitting will leak👍🇦🇺

    Will this work to repair the hose if it keeps popping off? my pressure washer hose every time I squeeze the trigger on the wand it pops off at the machine

    • @wlongmore
      @wlongmore 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is just a guess, as I can't see how you have things actually hooked up, but it sounds as if you might need new quick-connector fittings, as the male and female ends are not sealing properly. Make sure you push the hose into the machine a bit harder, and maybe turn it a little bit, just to make sure that the outside ring of the quick connection is snapped forward all the way, and not slightly still open. Also, check inside the female quick-connect to make sure the o-ring is sitting neatly inside its groove, and not slightly crooked, as this will obviously cause you to not get the male quick connect plug sitting flush inside the female quick-connect. Another thing to note, is that over time, some of your hose quick-connect ends/fittings will deform ever so slightly, and will not fit together as easily as when everything was brand new, so getting new fittings will make things easier and more secure. Take your hose to a Home Depot or similar, and try to plug it into a machine they have, or with a new quick connector fitting that they sell. You will be able to see a difference of how it should look and feel when perfectly connected.
      The main fitting in this video is meant just for repairing the hose itself.
      I know how frustrating it can be dealing with pressure washer problems, so I hope this information helps.

      This fitting costs about $15 dollars. A 50 foot 4000 psi hose costs about $75 to $90 dollars. These fittings are just as durable as the original ends in many cases, just a different way to secure itself to the end of the hose, and it still offers the same ability to use quick-connect ends, or the m22 screw-on type.

    How do I fix a hole in the middle of the hose?

    I keep seeing this only works on metal braided hoses, won’t work on nylon braided (?)

    How can I replace the male 3/8 side of my hose? It has corroded bad enough it can't be held under pressure.

    Has anyone actually tried this? As soon as mine builds up pressure it rips the hose like the threads from the gates connector are cutting it off.

      It’s called a “box end adjustable wrench” in most cases. I discovered that with a little googling, I’m no expert. Many places sell them under that or a similar name. Hope that helps, I’m thinking of getting myself one now.

    Hi. How would I fix a split right in the middle of my hose?

    • @topgun3753
      @topgun3753 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same problem, but the solution is more expensive than the hose. You would need two Gates compression fittings, one for each end of the hose and a threaded coupler to screw the Gates fittings together. But as I said, the cost at $15 or so per Gates fitting and the coupler you're looking at $35 - $40. Now if it's a hose that uses some proprietary end fittings you can't find then it may be worth it. Good Luck

    if one is worried about the possibility of a blowout on a repaired end ( and maybe you repaired BOTH ends ) a shorter pigtail factory hose ( 10' ) on the wand connecting to the repaired end of the hose might mitigate if the repaired end fails. But the hoses are actually cheaper nowadays than the parts you need to do the repair. Yeah what a waste, but hopefully you got a season or 2 out of it. Of course you could always find a hydraulic guy to put crimped fittings but that's more than it's worth unless you have a pro rig and dozens of feet -- which you shouldn't be doing the repair in the first place. 😊
