As a student in Newcastle during the late 1970's I well remember those Tyne and Wear Atlanteans - and how some of the drivers slammed through the gears on the pneumo-cyclic gear selector so hard the bus would literally jump......tough going on both the semi automatic....and the passengers!

      Many thanks for your comment.
Even now, there are good drivers and some 'not-so-good' drivers.
      Regards from Whitley Bay

@@brianmorrison9168 Very true! Thanks for an interesting video from Whitley Bay, looked great weather. Pity there's so few preserved United coaches in preservation. Always loved riding to London on the Tyne Tees Thames service Bristol RELH's - a ride quality that's never been beaten. I remember Spanish City from my student days - although I've been back a few times with work and stayed at the Cara guesthouse on the waterfront.

Many thanks Carol for your comment.
To be truthful, there weren't that many buses there ... but at least I got a free open top bus ride too

@@brianmorrison9168 good on you , you deserved that ride. It was the blue South Shields one I was in love with. Brought back a lot of happy memories

Yes, it's not a bad place to live, although for several years id did suffer from a serious lack of maintenance. the old sea front was a complete mess and had been for many many years. Things are getting better now.
I came here as a 5-year old and remember it was a very popular tourist destination. There were regular ferry crossing from your country, Norway on the Blenheim, Braemar and Leda ... I liked the Leda .. black & white funnel.
      Regards and thanks for watching
