Hello
My name is Brian Morrison.
That's me in the picture with my youngest granddaughter Priscilla, near the mouth of the River Tyne
I live in Whitley Bay, which is on the northeast coast of England, 10 miles east of Newcastle upon Tyne.
I am new to TH-cam as far as film making is concerned, but I am keen to learn and grow my channel.
No doubt I'll eventually make a film with me in front of the camera, but for now, I'll remain behind it.
I've always liked ships and boats, so the majority of my early videos were taken at North Shields, showing 'Ships on the Tyne'
The local train service, The Metro was the inspiration for my next group of videos.
Then, one weekend, some trains were out of action so replacement buses were in operation. I filmed a couple of these, which seemed popular, so I did a few more.
What's the next project ... not too sure yet .. watch this space
Campervan trips ... maybe !
Backpacking .. maybe !
Allotment gardening .. maybe !
Bus travel .. maybe !

Was underwhelmed by the journey on that first day… embarrassing that some of the stations aren’t even ready yet, and Ashington itself isn’t so much a station as a mere single platform set to one side of the existing freight lines. Opposite to the old station. It needs to absorb Newbiggin and Blyth, further round the circuit. A typical half baked UK project.
I thought about going down, but stayed at home with a hot drink.
@@LAMF25 good plan 😁
Happy New Year Brian 🎉
Many thanks .. and all the best for 2025 to you and your family
Crazy! Amazing how many people there are 😮😊
Thank you for your comment. Yes, a good turnout, certainly helped by the weather .. although the rain came not long after. BTW Happy New Year to you and your family
Awesome my friend!!
Many thanks ! It was a good ride, but will be better when all the new stations are open
Great vlog Brian, it’s great to see the Northumberland line open and serving the community.
Certainly Sam .. and a few days later the first new Metro train went into operation. It's all happening up here in the North East 😁
Love to go to Newcastle. It’s so nice to see the Northumberland Line now reopened to public and for the people of Northumberland.
Thank you for your comment. Just a pity the new stations are not open yet. Considering the line was supposed to be open last December, being a year late and not 100% complete does feel a bit of a let down (trying to put that politely !) Yes, all good news up here in Newcastle, the first new Metro train went into operation yesterday too.
I can recall traveling on the old line in 64 with my friends, it was a steam train then. Great to see it return, pleasant video, thanks.
Thank you for your comment. I live in Whitley Bay and when I first moved here, as a 5-year-old kid in 1963 there were steam trains running near the house, going to Blyth. I don't remember them, but I am sure my dad would have taken me to see them.
Thanks for posting it Brian. May have to check it out myself 😊
Thank you for your comment. Yes, certainly worth a trip and no doubt it's a nice view when the train crosses the River Wansbeck.
A very enjoyable video of the first trains on the reopened line. 👍👍
Thank you for your comment. I was expecting the train to be chock-a-block, but there were a few sets empty .. not many though. I just wonder how busy it will get when the novelty factor wears off.
Nice video, but unfortunately, it has highlighted the disgusting graffiti that blights our towns and cities! It's time the authorities came down hard on the culprits instead of just ignoring the issue!
Thank you for your comment. Yes, there is always graffiti around the place . such a shame. It's pretty bad on some parts of the Tyne Wear Metro too .. especially near Walkergate and Byker
Great video 👍
thank you for your comment !
Nice video, Brian. A big day with the new line opening. I suspect there’s usually not that many passengers on an early Sunday morning train. Btw, was that the Norwegian flag on your hat?
Thanks for your comment. Yes, that is the Norway flag on my hat .. don't know why the image is backwards .. I was playing with my phone, well , my wife's old iPhone so mustn't have clicked the proper settings. All in all, not a great day to be trying out a new phone. It's about time I buy myself an iPhone. My Nokia is almost 5 years old now.
I was on that train aswell that morning! What did you think of it overall?
Thank you for your comment. I thought there would have been more passengers .. at least there were still some seats available for anybody who got on at Seaton Delaval.
@brianmorrison9168 Yeah, I would've though more people would've got on at Newcastle, but I'm quite surprised aswell at how many were at Seaton Deleval and Ashington. I wonder how it's going to be tomorrow when it calls at Manors.
@@FusionZenFlame Did you see yourself when I walked through thre train ?
@@brianmorrison9168 Yes, first table towards the front! On the platform too running to that door at the front with my 3 other mates.
A ship not built for beauty😊
My wife says the same about me .. functional, not beautiful
Lovely bus trip. A few nice streets here and there. I remember taking a bus from North Shields ferry terminal (then Color Line) to Whitley Bay back in 1997. I may taken that bus through some of these streets back then. It was not a regular service, but arranged for for travellers from the ferry to local hotels. I think the bus company was called Armstrong something…..
Strange vessel. It looks like a hybrid between a car/passenger ferry and ro-ro/car ferry with no passengers.
Thanks for your comment. I see this is now operating between Rotterdam and Tilbury, but with a capacity of only 112 passengers, I think it is mainly used for freight.
@ So this was one time only visit to Newcastle perhaps?
@@Trond_travels If I remember correctly, this was coming in to the Tyne for repairs.
Watching ships like this, makes me wonder how deep the Tyne is…
Has there ever been a car ferry that has crossed the Tyne?
@@Trond_travels Yes ! When I first came to Whitley Bay, I remember travelling to South Shields on the small ferry, which also carried cars. The Tyne Tunnel was the built in the late1960s, just a few km upstream which then meant there was no need for a car carrying ferry.
@ Interesting. I should try finding photos from that time
Very stylish ship indeed. I’m sure I’ve seen this ship in Bergen a few times. Some years back.
@@Trond_travels Thanks ! The old ships always seemed to look nicer. Some of the new cruise ships are far too boxy .. like floating blocks of apartments Regards from a sunny Edinburgh!
That is so interesting 🤔
Thank you ! I nearly fell into the water while I was dancing to the music
Oh I am not laughing 😂
Nice footage Brian
Thanks .. the river is certainly full of rubbish
Excellent video. It is always good to see the navy ships. 👍
thanks .. first time for a while, but I think slightly out of focus at times. I was using my wife's old iPhone and I'm not really used to the camera app (Beastcam) .. I would give it 4 out of 10 🤣🤣
Lovely video. So nice to see you doing the ships again. I don't need to say the little helpers as well 😅
Thanks ! Yes, haven't been filming anything for a while, just a couple of odds 'n ends. On Wednesday I collected my daughter from the port, she had been to Amsterdam and I noticed the Royal Navy ship, so thought was would be a good way of starting again. A couple of tugs .. just an added bonus 😁😁
Hope your daughter enjoyed her trip. Yes great to see the ship and especially the add ones 😅
@@carolseymour7042 There was an offer .. 2 day trip Newcastle to Amsterdam, including breakfast on the first morning £26 .. in an inside cabin (double bed) so it was too good to refuse. Only 4 hours in Amsterdam, but enough to see a few of the sights.
@@brianmorrison9168 oh that sounded great yes definitely to good to ignore. As long as the sea was calm. Done that trip a few times and can get a bit 🤪 ug
Nice ships Brian
Many thanks Sam. I haven't been filming many ships recently, but yesterday I noticed this Royal Navy vessel while collecting my daughter from the ferry. I checked the Port of Tyne website and saw it was leaving today
Do you get off at North Shields metro station when filming ships on the Tyne? Or Tynemouth?
Today I actually went in the car, as I was a bit late .. I forgot all about the ship, which I actually noticed yesterday, when picking up my daughter from her Amsterdam trip. Normally, I would just cycle there, it saves looking for a carpark, or walking from the station. The nearest station for the Fish Quay is North Shields, but I sometimes film from Tynemouth headland, so Tynemouth would then be nearer.
@@brianmorrison9168 Are there buses between Whitley Bay and North Shields or only Metro?
@@Trond_travels Yes, the Number 1 bus leaves from just outside 'The Brewery' pub, near where you stayed and will take you to the North Shields ferry landing .. it's then a 5 minute walk to the Fish Quay. There's also the 317 bus from W/Bay town centre to the North Shields Bus Station .. then a 10 minute walk to the Fish Quay. I'll show you, next time you are here 😀😀
@@brianmorrison9168 Thanks
It's a nice ship it's my favourite ship to work on
Many thanks for your comment .. this is one of my very early videos. Do you work in the engine room, or are you a deck officer. My late father was a Chief Engineer, but left work 'at sea' when I was very young.
@@brianmorrison9168 I used to drive cars and vans on and off the ship till they stop bringing her in now send to round the Tyne
Well done, I couldn't do that :D
Thanks for your comment. When it costs £10 or maybe more for a haircut, this seems the best way
@@brianmorrison9168 perhaps if I learnt how to do it myself that might be the best way but until then I will just get it done at the barbers.
Always good to see and hear these old buses. Nice selection of vehicles too. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your comment .. it's just a pity that that was the last time the rally took place in my hometown of Whitley Bay
Va a pasar a la armada española. Saludos
thank you for your comment
Just saw this . Very good, but where are the tugs ? Ha ha 🤣
As always, thank you for your comment. Yes, I have to admit I haven't been filming many ships recently, so even fewer tugs. the port of Tyne website was not working for ages so it was difficult to know what was sailing and when. Even now, the site is not as it used to be. If you are interested, AIDASol is arriving on Tuesday morning
Ah shame it is difficult for you to do ships on the Tyne. I will see if I can make Tuesday . Seams like you are being busy. Take care
Wish I had more time when I was in Whitley Bay at the end of the summer. I could imagine strolling around and looking in the local shops. The only thing I had time for was buying some provisions and sweets for the children, in the local grocery store.
Quite a few shops have now closed down since I filmed this a long long time ago. @5:04 I knew the chap who owned the men's clothing shop Habit, that's him outside .. he finally retired and closed his business early in 2020, just before the UK had the first lockdown due to COVID
@@brianmorrison9168 Sadly, covid did close a lot of shops everywhere. I did notice that when I visited Aberdeen after covid, compared to my first visit there in 2018.
It looks very refreshing.
I hope you watched my mate's video, which I gave a long to in the description .. I'm in it too 😂😂
Brilliant costumes
Yes, most folks looked to be having a great time.
I went there a few times in the 60s and 70s, my grandad knew the lighthouse keepers. A weight on a chain hung down the middle.
Thank you for your comment. I moved to Whitley Bay in the 60s (as a kid) and could see a flash on my bedroom wall from the lighthouse. There is scaffolding all around the lighthouse now, as it is being repainted. Just a pity it has been closed to the public all summer .. why they could not have painted it before the summer, or just after I don't really know. It's always promoted as the top attraction in W/Bay,. so why close when the tourists come .. c r a z y !
Very nice band Brian 😊
Thanks Sam for the comment. I just happened to be walking nearby and heard the music, so thought I would go and investigate. Sadly, when I filmed the band, on a busy Saturday, there wasn't a single other person watching them .. obviously everyone was too busy with their own shopping etc. Pity !
Nice footage Brian
Many thanks Sam.

A nice little journey 😊 I haven’t seen the «Angel of the North» in real life 😮
Considering it was completed on 15th February 1998, it has taken me 9,618 days to actually visit it, even though I only live 15 miles (25km) away. It's not that exciting !
Nice to see all this life on the Tyne. Things are going on 😊
I haven't filmed any ships for several months, but a friend told me about the Mein Schiff arriving, so i thought I would film her leaving, which I did. To my surprise, this vessel followed her out, so it was a great opportunity for a second video.
Tall ship.
Certainly! I believe this is the largest cruise ship that has entered the River Tyne.
Fantastic footage Brian what equipment are you using? Very good quality
