Good video as part of an interesting historical series on youtube that makes history attractive.
A little precision, however, regarding the myth of the conquest of "Normandy".
In fact Rollo or Rolf was defeated at the battle of Chartres by Eudes marquis of Neustrie and made submission to the king of the Franks charles the simple to Saint-Clerc sur Epte by making a particularly humiliating "of the tribute" ceremony.
He had to kneel as a defeated and kiss the feet of the King, he also had to convert to Christianity.
He was not appointed Duke, nor even Count, and was charged with defending these lands and making conquests only against the Britons who were enemies of the kingdom and had the other duties of a vassal.
Later the chroniclers of what became the Duchy of Normandy invented the famous anecdote of a warrior replacing Rolf and overthrowing the king to hide this humiliation of the kiss of the feet of the King.
The kings of the Franks never gave territories in tribute to enemies and the Normans made up this legend of a victorious Rolf snatching territories from a powerless King to hide that it was Rolf who was defeated and treated as were several submissive leaders who previously made allegiance to their victors as for example under Charlemagne's rule.

I don’t know much details but i’m sure vikings were defeated twice, the first time in Paris around 885 to 886, (paris was defended by Odo of France), the second time in Chartres in 911 (defeated by horsemen led by Robert 1 of france)

So it is actually like Vikings fron Denmark and northern Germany invaded Britain in the 5th century and created ango-saxon states and then they were conquered by new surge of Vikings from Denmark and Norway in the 9th century and further in the 11 century another group of Vikings, that were romanized, conquered the british viking states for the second time. It is all about Vikings vs Vikings.

mick Warnie i didn’t deny the normans retain nordic elements. For example normans pronounced ‘w’ sound more often than other french dialects. Genetically speaking, french were a mix of gaulish(celtic) + roman (latin) + frankish (germanic). Even french language / langue d’oïl is a germanised form of latin. The differences between french and normans were not as great as we imagine.

In 1066 they spoke French. They're population is culturally French. Normans descend from Vikings. But we're themselves not Viking.

Each and every european feudals of the time had a passion for conquest and aventure, not only normans or scandinavians but nearly everybody :
Castillans and aragoneses (in the reconquista or later in the service of Byzantium), angevines (who, by the way replaced normans on the throne of England after "the Anarchy"), flemish, germans (in baltic lands), lorrains (Godfrey of Bouillon) and occitans (Raymond Saint Gilles, who had the greatest number of soldiers during the first crusade) etc.
Also, in the late 11th century, Vikings were a thing of the past : they converted to christianity, their style of fighting was outdated and they were repeatedly defeated on the battlefields a this point (at Stamfordbridge, for instance).
Furthermore, their "viking" identity quickly dissolved into the realms they lived in : thus the varangians (rus') became russians (slavic) in the East, whereas northmen (normands) became french (romance) in the West.

The English like to portay him as a Viking because it hurts them so much, but it is a lie. It was the bretons mainly who did the decisive attack. Plus you forget to mention there was another invasion after Hastings, when William called the french lords in England to give them saxon lands. They came in great number. Napoleon invaded Spain in 1808, which had to brought back almost all its soldiers to the Iberian Peninsula and local rebels like San Martin or Bolívar took the opportunity to claim themselves as leaders and rulers in order to become richer and don't have to pay taxes to Spain. End of the explanation. Any merit at all, they almost had no Spanish soldiers to fight in America. In 1898 U.S.A., as the nastiest traitor commiting a false flag attack, sank its own battleship Maine in La Havana's harbour to have an excuse to start a war against Spain and took over Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines. End of the Spanish Empire.
