Used to be that 600HP+ in a larger car was "too fast for the road". Now stock turbos can get you close to 800hp in an M3. I'd say things are getting silly, but that was true ages ago.
Ik things were getting silly when people got an already powerful, two year old inline six to make double the stock power with minimal mods.

I remember when the hellcat lineup first came out and the world was mystified at a car that came from factory stock with over 700hp. It's still pretty crazy to think about
Depending on where you live...traffic volume has done nothing but increase too. So you have 600hp+ in stop n go. Lol
Advanced four wheel drive systems like xDrive help in that regard, I guess

I'm with you, but the car is pretty amazing otherwise. Maybe could use a bit of more steering feel, but otherwise it'd make a nice hardcore daily.

Xdrive with that s58 can launch so violent, ive seen x3m with sub 3 second 0-100 with similar hp as this.

I recently drove the M3 Competition and it was crazy with the 510 hp, THIS is a fucking intergalactic carrier. Beyond crazy what xDrive can do with this crazy power outlet. Also the new BMW displays are crazy and that's coming from Audi and Porsche driver.
BMW displays combining the M colors is really smart and looks exceptional.

There are only some stupid mfs who just cruise on the left lane when right side is free (rarely) or some change to the left when a car's in front without checking there rear view mirrors but the guy in the vid is always aware of such drivers and eases off the gas.

@@MyRealName Nah, not really. I live in Germany and love to drive fast and usually it works quite well unless it doesn't. And one mistake (doesn't really matter by whom) is enough to cause an accident.

Blah blah blah.... There's nothing "insane" in it, because German engines have always been powerful enough for speed above 300 kmh or even 200 mph.
It's only the German 250 kmh limit /155 mph, which was installed in the 1980's from all German carmakers, because of road safety reasons.
If these engines would have been allowed to fully go to their absolute limit, most German performance cars would be faster than 300 kmh. It's just the limiter.

If road conditions permitted, and traffic aswell... and the limiter was removed on the car in the video (which it seems as if it was based on 206mph), then it could probably maybe hit 230 even. Maybe even 240. 750hp in an m3 is a lot. A stage X m3 (1013hp) can def hit 250hp as it's faster than a chiron even... But it would require a spoiler for high speeds.
That shift at 8:49 is just satisfying. I love how the shifts on all the ZF8s from 2nd to 3rd are this aggressive
Yesterday you showed the 100-200 of the SLS (an incredible machinery masterpiece) and it was around 7s. Crazy to see how a “regular” M3 with some mods is able to destroy a car like that in a straight line. S58 is a beast. Well done BMW, and great video guys (as always 😁).

It is just impressive to think that a quite common family sedan with around 5-10k€ mods will pull away with a certain ease on the Autobahn on a 500k€+ limited edition supercar (and on other more recent stock supercars - that will still cost around 100k€ more). So, S58 is really a great engine and we should all celebrate it 😁
@@johseb1 that's been true for pretty much all performance turbo motors. You could take any of the Merc, BMW or VAG 4.0/4.4 TT V8s and do the same thing. B58. VAG 5 cyl too

Pure Turbos is the best and fastest way to get a speeding ticket. And I absolutely love it.

@@skylineownzful 70% of the autobahn is unlimited, the rest is not and there are more speed limits due to road works, for example. So you will certainly get a fine and if you are really speeding your driving license will be revoked for 1-2 months. There are also systems that monitor the distance to the vehicle in front. If the distance is too small, you will also receive a ticket.

I was looking to get a Ferrari 458, but this is so much better I can't justify paying more for the Italian horsey. This is daily drivable, comfortable, tech rich, but also a total monster when you want it to be. It's the best of all worlds. Will likely dust most Ferrari's and Lambo's too, and then when you're done you still have some money left over for petrol and donuts. 😄
X5 M is prob better for a daily?

@@senoow4215 X5 M is a beast but it’s a heavy one to toss around, not as nimble. Plus I already have an SUV so looking for either a sports sedan or coupe.
458 is a superior car, looks way better and sounds miles better
@@andreasmoller9798 Yes I can’t disagree with you there, sounds and looks the 458 is better by far. No question but to be fair one is a super car, a legendary Ferrari after all, the BMW is not in the same class. The two cars will drive and handle very differently. I likely won’t drive a 458 daily but the M3 I would. Many things to consider, perhaps a test drive of both will solidify my decision.
I still remember when the g80 got teasered and everybody hated it :D

BMW really hit out out of the park with this engine and transmission.
Don't quote me on this, but I think we can thank their partnership with Toyota for part of it. The S58 is a direct descendant of the B58 engine which has undergone numerous revisions per Toyota's request and quality control were they to put it in anything carying a Toyota badge. Couple of years later, BMW comes out with it's most reliable and tunable performance engine in decades. Don't think that's a coincidence... hehe :)
@@kenvanpassen9247 It's not. Toyota only played a part in the B58. The S58 has less than 10% of it's parts shared with the B58. Very few things are shared between the two engines.
