Cool that retevis has updated firmware, and it works on both brands of radio! I'm hoping that the new "MD-UV380 plus" is just an updated firmware, and I can flash my regular MD-UV380 with the new firmware. This info is hard to find, so thanks much for taking the time to post. Cheers from VT!
thankyou so much was about to give up on my bricked MD UV 380 when I found your video, reflashed using the D18 firmware, original was D19 firmware but does not matter as it least it is now useable, thanks again very much appreciate your effort, cheers tubby VK4TUB
Thanks very much for this tutorial. I used it to flash OpenRTX to my MD-UV390 to try their flavor of M17. Update: M17 doesn't yet function, even with the documented hardware mod. The mod just gets it ready for the release of the right firmware once they do figure out how to make it work. Very nascent project still. This was a very useful video once again as I wanted to put the OEM firmware back on. OpenRTX is a very interesting custom firmware that is somewhat useful even in analog or DMR mode, but it's strictly for experimenters.
I've actually done the hardware mod to my MD-UV390 now, and yes, OpenRTX firmware does work. M17 transmit is very clear. Haven't yet received M17 on the HT. Will have to produce test transmission from another device to confirm.
I am trying to flash my TYT MD-UV380 back to its original firmware. The retevis website now looks nothing like the site you showed 2 years ago. I found the downloads for the UV380 but no firmware, just CPS software. Could you point me to the right link for the firmware and the program to apply it. Thanks
Just got my MD UV390 Plus 10W. Using a known good code plug from another UV390 user, radio would not transmit on any frequencies other than 150.0 or 450.0 Mhz. Verified this with a spectrum analyzer, no matter what channel was selected. Assumed firmware was no good, so tried other RT3S and UV390 firmware I found on line. Big mistake! Now, I have a black screen, and with bright flashlight, see nothing but the initial sign on screen. No menus, etc. Radio appeared hosed. I CAN still get it into DFU mode, however. OpenGD77 firmware that fixes the black screen will NOT load here 😞 I am kind of stuck!!!
12-30-22 The website shows updated models and no longer show the RT8 and RT3. I need the firmware for the MD-U/V380 as a backup/restore before I install OpenGD77. Thanks.
Have you had any luck? I found a firmware online, my issue is after installed when I reset the radio the screen stays black. When i use cps it's reading and writing to the radio I just can't see or use the actual radio. Firmware displays correctly in cps
Another difference between MD 380 mono bands and UV380 (or 90's) dual bands, is the MD's have superheterodyne receiver against direct conversion of the UV's. Better RX in MD's.

Thank you very much. My radio was bricked. You saved me dude. It works now. Thanks!

M17 receive on modified HT is good, too.
Muchas gracias, conseguí arreglar mi tyt ,
Worked like a champ, THANK YOU
Awesome tutorial, I no longer have a paperweight!

Tks a lots! Your video guide helped me to understand this subject👃
Does there website have a whole different look? Or just for me? I need to re-flash firmware for TYT MD-390 with gps. Thanks for reply!

Thank you so much, great video and you saved my bacon after I screwed it up.
i owe bigtime amigo, thank you very much :)

Better RX in MD's.
I did notice my UV was kind of doggy on receive. That's another reason it got the M17 conversion. My dirt-cheap COTRE CO01D receives much better.
Good to know about the RX of both models. I bought the UV380 thinking two bands was better than one, but I may pick up an MD-380 if I find the cash.
What's the difference between the CSV and REC versions of the firmware? I can't seem to find an answer online
