    Hi,
I’m from London United Kingdom, I married to Japanese in 2016 and we live in London now we have 2 years old child and we are planning to move in Japan in 2022 so looks like it we are going to move to Japan for good. I will use your information and I don’t mind how many years of visa they give me as long as they just provide me with a visa and I’m not sure what they will do after the period of 5 years. Thank you for explaining so well. Kind Regards.

if you have been married for 3 years and never been in japan ,you can go japan as tourist and apply for change of status in japan , second if your wife is in japan she can send you a COE if she is not he parents can send a COE Certificate of Eligibility and you can apply for a spouse visa in Japanese embassy and they would give you one year spouse visa ,that visa would be cancelled upon entry to japan and they would issue 1 year resident card at the airport, after one year you can apply for a permanent residency or even before that you can apply for naturalization to be a japanese citizen, that is for people who ve been married for 3 years, anything less than that can still get 1 year spouse visa and enter to japan, once they fill the 3 years they can apply for permanent residency or citizenship

Holy crap. I just renewed my spouse visa. My last visa was only one year. When I checked the expiration date it said 2024!! I got a 3 year visa! It might be different for everybody. Make sure to be a good citizen. Pay ur taxes on time. Don’t do crimes (not common sense to everyone unfortunately) and don’t try to lie to immigration! Be honest. Dont lose hope! Ganbatte!

dont get so excited, 3 years visa or permanent residency doesn't mean much ,if you are not citizen its not safe, i ve seen many permanents resident being deported .if you are a resident you dont have to be a good citizen because you are not a citizen ,lol,,and dont think everyone is a japan junkie like you ,,,

    • @realjapan-s5m

that means you are new in japan and you don't know anything. Because first a 1-year visa and then another 1-year visa followed by a 3-year visa is a common thing.

You didn’t pay your first two pensions huh? Well, the world doesn’t revolve around and the government doesn’t care if your unemployed or not. You MUST pay your pension period. Maybe you should have thought of paying first before complain about only getting one year visas.

If you already have permanent residence visa which you have obtained from work and had stayed in Japan for 10yrs and you had married a japanese, it is necessary to change your visa status or remain as it is?
