While I don't believe he has to prove anything, the development of his music opens him up to even more fans, in my opinion.

I remember how young he was out there consoling broken hearts when nobody saw his beginning to crack. It’s been amazing to watch his own resurrection. I watched his doc on YT. He's not changing the melody to be more artistic, he's changing the melody because he is intentionally avoiding the notes in his upper register lol. Nothing wrong with it, many singers do it. But that's the reason why he's doing it. The arrangement was not touched. It's the exact same arrangement as the studio version. He basically just migrated the melody/chorus from his upper register and head voice to full on chest voice. If you have it, there's no reason why you shouldn't hit them--this is for your fans after all. He's been singing non stop for a very long time though I bet it's putting excessive stress on his chords. But yeah, I listen to this song every day, I love it so much. But this was a strategic choice, not an artistic one.
