- The head of Russia's security council threatened Lithuania with "serious" consequences on Tuesday over restrictions imposed on the rail transit of EU-sanctioned goods to Moscow's exclave of Kaliningrad, a region bordering Lithuania and Poland.
"Russia will certainly respond to such hostile actions," Nikolai Patrushev said at a security meeting in Kaliningrad.
He added that "appropriate measures" are in the works and they "will be taken in the near future."
"Their consequences will have a serious negative impact on the population of Lithuania," he said in comments reported on by Russian news agencies.
Meanwhile, Moscow's foreign ministry has summoned the EU ambassador to the Russian capital, Markus Ederer, over the "anti-Russian restrictions" on cargo moving between Kaliningrad and mainland Russia.

@@marcopalazzo9349 Well, you know, my pessimism is always high: NATO could find a loophole for Article 5 not to intervene; some Western countries could decide to pull out because of fears of nuclear war; cutting off Suvalki gap would take a day or two due to our small size, etc. On the other hand, there is always allies on the south and NATO does indeed have air superiority. I just hope NATO is meaningful: not just fancy banquets with NATO leaders and pretty speeches.

Whenever Putin complains about EU sanctions, I really want to hear EU leaders remind him, over and over again till he gets the message, that if he wants anyone to take any notice of him then he must stop his war against Ukraine and withdraw all Russian forces from Ukrainian territory (i.e. the territory as it was in 1994 when Russia signed the Budapest memorandum guaranteeing Ukrainian sovereignty).

It’s EU sanctions, not Lithuanian sanctions and it’s not ‘blockade’ but sanctions to some goods from Kaliningrad. So what Russia is doing is just questioning sanctions which really have been applied to whole Russia already.
And if they genuinely want to attack Lithuania over it, that'd mean going after the Baltics, which all three are part of NATO, and likely Poland due to proximity.

It's not quite between russia and Lithuania, but between russia and the EU, and this particular sanction was included in the package in the beginning of March, so russia new all along. Besides, the people of Kaliningrad would gladly secede from Russia themselves.

I would suggest Lithuanians to divert traffic dismantle old roads and making more narrow with more twisted roads to Kalingrad and making truck traffic more difficult ..Geographically Kalingrand hasn't have good connection with Poland but Lithuania as a part of soviet Union had a legacy of having straight ,wide roads.

You should educate yourselves and watch perun on why russia is doing so bad. The russian soldiers are actually dragging out the russian guys from the occupied areas and telling them fight or be shot. Then they use them as cannon fodder to see where the ukranians are. Of course the russian soldiers shell the ukranians rather than fight them. All very brave really...
Obviously, since they've had very little if any training they're not going to last long but there are many people in rusia that might want to repopulate those area when the special operation is finished.
