Thanks for the tips I have sodded bermuda grass and from the video I have a hybrid type. I just wanted to have my lawn completely even since I have areas where you can still see the ground and other the grass looks stunning. But I think I will do the feed and drive method, and have my grass spread and thicken by itself. Thank for the video. I will definitely subscribe.
Assuming you don’t have sod or the money to pay for it, seeding or overseeding with a quality named couch seed is successful if you do it right. We do Sportsfields and golf courses out here in Australia with Barenbrug seed and it’s great. Weeds agree need to be controlled, another way is wait until bermudagrass is in full dormancy and spray with a light rate of glyphosate using label directions. If you don’t mind the brown off bermudagrass is ok. Sometimes bermudagrass enthusiasts only show it when it’s out of dormancy which can be different to winter.
For those needing seed, I’d like to give a shoutout to Hancock Seed Comp. in FL. 3 years ago I had to totally redo my yard, as it had nothing but weeds. I choose the Riviera hybrid , the customer service @ Hancock was great,& along with Docs program last year and this year I couldn’t be happier!! Agreed. I got their common Bermuda/Brown top millet mix and super fast germination on the millet and acted as a cover crop and prevented washing of the soil until the Bermuda germinated
I almost thought I had messed up purchasing black jack for my Bermuda lawn overseeding project until Doc mentioned how well it will blend in with the hybrid Bermuda presently on my lawn.I got a 25lb bag coming in today which should be enough for my yard.Great information my lawn is already looking good with PGF complete,humichar and super juice.

I just got hydro seeding done last week. Please suggest the best fertilizer with NPK to put after 4 to 6 weeks. I was told the hydro seeding already had starter fertilizer. I live in Minnesota. Appreciate your help.
Here I was trying to see if there was some info that would kill that stuff off for good! I had a mulched area on a hill that needed grass to be stable. All I did was side discharge mow and shoot the clippings over there. 6 months later I had 6 more feet of grass. Now I have about a 1/10th acre to plant something useful (food crop) and I can't get rid of the stuff. Tried mowing it down to dirt, covering it with plastic - stuff won't go stop growing back.

What type of bermuda seed do you have in your yard? I want to go with a hybrid like Blackjack because I understand it is good for overseeding. Or should I wait until next year to start it over?
Well I've already overseeded with Bermuda seeds. I will just have to wait to see what happens. I used Scott's weed and kill in January and it really messed up my lawn, leaving portions of my lawn dead to the roots, looks really terrible so I overseeded with I think the common Bermuda seeds last week. I can see some growths now. I just want to wait it out and see how it turns out. Best luck to me😃😃😃
My confused, I think.. I’m in ga with Bermuda grass. Starting in March...do I scalped my yard, then put pre emergent and fertilizer and add hybrid seed if needed than water ?? I’ve never scalped my yard so that’s a little scary.
I have hybrid Bermuda in my house, I have some areas unless I water everyday doesn't stay green, also have area as if though they were growing on top of carpet I can pinch pull up from the dirt, I have thatched, removing a full trailer 6'X8'X3' of dead grass and roots, I have looked for help and haven't found it, I hope that you can help as I am getting ready for next spring to remove it all and replace it with fescue if I can't fix it, back breaking work I don't want to do, also it has moss, I've used different moss killers and all they do is make black spots all over the excessive layers of roots make it difficult for the water to penetrate to the dirt, since my lawn has slopes, takes lots of water runs off before it soak the soil. I live near the golf and most of the small community have Bermuda and the moss,

Can I kill fescue out of my Bermuda lawn?? I don’t have any shade trees. But Fescue is thriving over Bermuda right now even when I cut it at 1in. My yard is about 50/50 fescue/Bermuda.
I'm trying to do the same thing. I used some "Image Kills Nutsedge" product which is also suopposed to either kill or supress grasses like Fescue. Too early to tell the results for me, but its the only reasonably priced product to do the job.
Do you have a guide on how to go from a bad fescue lawn to Bermuda? Should you just go the sod route or can you get the soft Bermuda look by seeding? N.C. weather.

Doc I can't find that Pennington Arden 15 hybrid Bermuda grass. Pennington gave me the # to SiteOne landscaping here locally. And they carry Lesco Sunstar and Lesco dune bermudagrass. They say it's hybrid. Answer whenever possible.
Doc - when we purchased our home we had 1) weeds!!!, 2) common bermuda, 3) hybird bermuda, 4) fescue and 5) an unknown something else. The home owner had just heavily reseeded the week before we purchased. Since that time, the fescue still comes up in late Jan when its starting to get warmish and the two bermudas are competing with each other. Forgetting all the rest because Im sure someone has some similar type of situation, what do you when you have two types of bermudas competing? Do you - as you did on the rental lawn - do a spray to kill it all off and then seed again or???

They don't match as you point out they wouldn't as sod is hybrid almost always. This seems like an instance where it makes sense to overseed ( I have blackjack seed) so that I can attempt to blend in hybrid everywhere. Agree there?

Hey Doc! Quick question, I live in Texas and we are experiencing some 100+ degree days for the last weeks and continue for the rest of the summer. I have 2-month-old sod and I started to notice some brown spots that I assume are just dead Bermuda. My landscaper did a pretty crappy job leveling the soil before installing the sod, so I need to level my lawn again (Not a big lawn, 500sf), should I go ahead and overseed while I'm at it? I am using Get Sunday products and bought a Bermuda Patch kit that includes seeds and organic seed starter... Thanks a lot!
What would you recommend when your lawn is supposed to be Bermuda but is being overtaken by St Augustine? I like St Augustine but when it's mixed with Bermuda, it looks really bad and I'd really like to keep it a Bemuda lawn.
I use to use MSMA to fix this but they banned its use. That stuff was amazing. Wish I could get my hands on that stuff now. Funny how anything that really works gets banned.

james sams St Augustine is trash in my opinion. No offense. Looks like controlled weeds to me. I grew up playing golf in Texas. I’m spoiled with the look and feel of manicured Bermuda. Docs right. Bermuda takes skill. When’s the last time you teed it up at a golf course off of St Augustine The most beautiful turfs in the world are thin bladed grasses.

I'm going crazy here. I've read your page inside and out. I love your videos and they are all very helpful but this is what I need help understanding. We have common bermuda and I have no doubt we can fill it out nice and green but it's thick and unattractive. My neighbors have really fine bladed bermuda. That's our end goal. On your site it says if you do reseed and you keep up with your watering and mowing schedule the two will battle it out and typically the hybrid will win. We want Hybrid. Overseeding it is the only path to that right?
There's no saying that the fine Bermuda will WIN for sure. I might lightly spray the entire lawn with a grass killer first. Kill the common... Wait a few weeks and rains, then reseed with high quality seed like blackjack yukon tif etc. Sad and painful but about the only REAL way to convert it.
How To with Doc If I dethatch before laying down the new seed do you see that as an option to have the fine seed win? Will I have wasted my money if I don’t kill the grass?

Hey Doc, I have a question. In Oklahoma, most of my Bermuda lawn is beginning to have an even spread of greening as a sign ready to scalp. My house is sort of on top of a very small mound within a culdesac, and I have noticed the very center is a 10 yard radius that seems to always green last every year. Currently hardly if any green within just that spot even though it receives the most daylight as far as my front yard goes. Any ideas on why or tips to help keep even growth? That spot does not have any obstruction from the sun in the late afternoon to evening.
Doc, when I built my house I planted my side yard with common Bermuda. The front yard is hybrid. As you said the two types of Bermuda don’t blend as well as I would like. If I overseed with a hybrid seed would this help the blend? Or would it be as waste?

I am in California and have bermuda sod. I cant order the super juice. since it can't be shipped to California. is there a good alternative I can use.

So the key to a good lawn is to live beside you and not take care of it, until you get sick of looking at it and take over.

I'm in Arlington and I am wanting to do the exact same thing.
I would bet you have Bermuda... Texas is to hot for anything else. Do as Doc said, light coats of PGF every three weeks and you’ll be amazed
Common bermuda has a bigger blade and hybrid (sod) is a much thinner blade. I'm also in North Texas
If you've never had hybrid bermuda before in your lawn and have common bermuda with some centipede, can you seed hybrid bermuda? And how is your recommendation to do that?
Can I kill fescue out of my Bermuda lawn?? I don’t have any shade trees. But Fescue is thriving over Bermuda right now even when I cut it at 1in. My yard is about 50/50 fescue/Bermuda.
I'm trying to do the same thing. I used some "Image Kills Nutsedge" product which is also suopposed to either kill or supress grasses like Fescue. Too early to tell the results for me, but its the only reasonably priced product to do the job.
Does it make a difference what kind of Weed and Feed & Fertilizer I use between the two different types of Bermuda?
Do you have a guide on how to go from a bad fescue lawn to Bermuda? Should you just go the sod route or can you get the soft Bermuda look by seeding? N.C. weather.

Doc I can't find that Pennington Arden 15 hybrid Bermuda grass. Pennington gave me the # to SiteOne landscaping here locally. And they carry Lesco Sunstar and Lesco dune bermudagrass. They say it's hybrid. Answer whenever possible.
Doc - when we purchased our home we had 1) weeds!!!, 2) common bermuda, 3) hybird bermuda, 4) fescue and 5) an unknown something else. The home owner had just heavily reseeded the week before we purchased. Since that time, the fescue still comes up in late Jan when its starting to get warmish and the two bermudas are competing with each other. Forgetting all the rest because Im sure someone has some similar type of situation, what do you when you have two types of bermudas competing? Do you - as you did on the rental lawn - do a spray to kill it all off and then seed again or???

I notice you don't seem to answer any questions but will ask in hopes you do .. I had common Bermuda and put down sod in new area. They don't match as you point out they wouldn't as sod is hybrid almost always. This seems like an instance where it makes sense to overseed ( I have blackjack seed) so that I can attempt to blend in hybrid everywhere. Agree there?
Do when we have the time... 70 - 80 hours a week wears one thin. Yes you could if you can keep both cut very short.

My yard is newly sodded as of June 2019. There is a mixture of hybrid and common Bermuda in the yard. Is there a way I can help the hybrid grass take over, short of constantly pulling common Bermuda when I see it?
Before I discovered your channel, I unfortunately, reseed my lawn with the box store bermuda product and now I notice the difference between the hybrid and common bermuda grass. You are right, it looks stupid. Anything, I can do to repair this mistake?
Unfortunately you’re going to have to replace it by re- sodding if you want pure hybrid and all to look the same.
Hey Doc! Quick question, I live in Texas and we are experiencing some 100+ degree days for the last weeks and continue for the rest of the summer. I have 2-month-old sod and I started to notice some brown spots that I assume are just dead Bermuda. My landscaper did a pretty crappy job leveling the soil before installing the sod, so I need to level my lawn again (Not a big lawn, 500sf), should I go ahead and overseed while I'm at it? I am using Get Sunday products and bought a Bermuda Patch kit that includes seeds and organic seed starter... Thanks a lot!

What would you recommend when your lawn is supposed to be Bermuda but is being overtaken by St Augustine? I like St Augustine but when it's mixed with Bermuda, it looks really bad and I'd really like to keep it a Bemuda lawn.
I use to use MSMA to fix this but they banned its use. That stuff was amazing. Wish I could get my hands on that stuff now. Funny how anything that really works gets banned.
BUT if you have common Bermuda grass now form what the home builder installed, couldn't you over-seed with common Bermuda

Don't bother. Plenty of kelp in SJ and there isn't a SIGNIFICANT visual benefit from it.
Been staying pretty strict on the Bermuda schedule. Just started noticing a lot of St. Augustine popping up. Almost over night invasion. Any suggestions or tips? The Bermuda was really just started to look good. Just fertilized this past weekend.

james sams St Augustine is trash in my opinion. No offense. Looks like controlled weeds to me. I grew up playing golf in Texas. I’m spoiled with the look and feel of manicured Bermuda. Docs right. Bermuda takes skill. When’s the last time you teed it up at a golf course off of St Augustine The most beautiful turfs in the world are thin bladed grasses.

Kapil Kirpekar keep in mind If you over seed with a different breed the grass will look different. As long as your okay with that.
That common Bermuda looks a whole lot better than the patch
Doc, i looked back and it looks like you used the blackjack seed when you put it down. How does it seem to be taking on the more shaded areas? Was curious to know if it's shade tolerant or not. Obviously not 100%

I'm going crazy here. I've read your page inside and out. I love your videos and they are all very helpful but this is what I need help understanding.
We have common bermuda and I have no doubt we can fill it out nice and green but it's thick and unattractive. My neighbors have really fine bladed bermuda. That's our end goal. On your site it says if you do reseed and you keep up with your watering and mowing schedule the two will battle it out and typically the hybrid will win. We want Hybrid. Overseeding it is the only path to that right?
There's no saying that the fine Bermuda will WIN for sure. I might lightly spray the entire lawn with a grass killer first. Kill the common... Wait a few weeks and rains, then reseed with high quality seed like blackjack yukon tif etc. Sad and painful but about the only REAL way to convert it.
How To with Doc If I dethatch before laying down the new seed do you see that as an option to have the fine seed win? Will I have wasted my money if I don’t kill the grass?
I still think a LIGHT spray of a grass killer is in order. Common is pretty tough stuff.
I saw where you recommended the Pennington hybrid seed Arden-15 on the site. Can I mix this seed in with the common pennington seed? Take your time Doc. I know you are swamped particularly this time of the year. Keep it going.

I have the opposite problem, my yard was overrun with Bermuda (i am in NY) so i killed the yard and reseeded last year, the problem is my neighbor didn’t and our yards are connected. Any tips i can use to keep the Bermuda in my neighbors yard from overtaking mine? I was hoping tenacity might help since bermuda doesn’t like it I’ve read.

Hey Doc, I have a question. In Oklahoma, most of my Bermuda lawn is beginning to have an even spread of greening as a sign ready to scalp. My house is sort of on top of a very small mound within a culdesac, and I have noticed the very center is a 10 yard radius that seems to always green last every year. Currently hardly if any green within just that spot even though it receives the most daylight as far as my front yard goes. Any ideas on why or tips to help keep even growth? That spot does not have any obstruction from the sun in the late afternoon to evening.
Doc, when I built my house I planted my side yard with common Bermuda. The front yard is hybrid. As you said the two types of Bermuda don’t blend as well as I would like. If I overseed with a hybrid seed would this help the blend? Or would it be as waste?
Yes, some will take and blend in. Keep it short.
So basically it takes all summer to fix it

Hey Doc, I need some advice. I leveled parts of my yard the other day. After leveling I applied some Bermuda grass seeds. Should I apply grass clippings over the seeds?
Joe Marrone - Follow the instructions that came with the seed. If they didn’t give instructions, check the internet, unless Doc gets back with you.
I personally wouldn't cover the seeds with grass clippings..
I would just sprinkle some miracle grow potting soil over it no grass clippings.
