The is a revisit of one of my more popular videos from a few years ago. Today we take a second look at a counterfeit Gameboy Advance SP. Unlike the many Famiclone knockoffs out there this one is labeled Nintendo and runs real SP games, but the performance gives away the fact that this is no real Gameboy. Thoughts and gameplay.

Looks like a predecessor to the RS-90 Retro Mini. They always included the Crash Bandicoot games because they'd run full speed even though the processor couldn't handle emulating anything more intense.

This GBA might be working similiar to the Sega Flashback. It loads the ROM from the cartridge and emulates it. This is probably also why earlier Gameboys are unsupported. I wouldnt be surprised if this would be yet another device based upon SPMP8000, but with much much more modified software, and without the nonsense included like cheap camera, alarm clock, calculator and MP4 player.
It kinda looks like it, since it plays GBA, NES and (if it really was) Genesis, because those consoles do work good on SPMP8000 based devices, choking on more demanding GBA games, and SNES titles. Plus this would eventually run GBC and GB games, if you'd somehow manage to put them at console - maybe an Everdrive ? I wonder if connecting it via USB GBA cable would show anything at PC.

I have seen this a few times but for ridiculous prices. Do original sp cables fit? Does it run everdrive? How long is the battery life?

Funny, I may have cut the cable section out. Although the power cable fits, it just falls out. Since Multicarts work I'm pretty sure an everdrive would as well. I generally avoid the topic of battery life on these because it widely varies on what you are playing, so someone invariably says they are "getting 4 hours" from it or complain that they only got 45. Also they change battery brands a lot and quality varies. For the record I think I only got 1 1/2 hours out of it -- In fact I had to plug the charger in during the video.

They are long out of production so collectors drive the prices high when they show up. Most fake GBA's are Famiclones nowadays. There is a huge refurb market for GBA so these really don't have a reason to exist.
