So much was undiscovered due to Apartheid, beyond East London, and extending to Natal, were the Ciskei and Transkei "republics" where forced resettlement by the Dutch Afrikaaners of the Xhosa people (there are about 20 different peoples living in South Africa) may have been off-limits to surf exploration. You will have to ask people of that age to tell you about any of this.
