I 100% agree with you, when I first found out about these mangas I was dying for them! it was a new chapter of my life, reading these was giving me more excitement in the world of zelda, but then again... I did noticed these rushed stuff and unecessary twists, especially with Volvagia, But those are Old x'D these mangas was like their first adaptations, the Best ones I really liked are Phantom Hourglass wich it has really Good chimestry of Link and Linebeck also some dark parts and now with Twilight princess wich you can notice the huge improvement and lower tone from kids to teens, ofcourse they made their twist to avoid ''copy paste'' from game to manga and did a deeper story to Link, they are now not afraid of showing a touch of gore and darkish story. You should do a part 2 of this with the rest of the mangas plz :'3 the Wind waker (is just a bunch of jokes sadly) Phantom Hourglass, pre skyward sword short, Ocarina of time 3D short, and recent Twiligth Princess~
when i read it i was in forth grade and Ocarina of time 3D was out and me and my friend Colin were playing it on 3DS, I love how link has a fun and curious personality when young!
It seems like they’d be a good companion to the games. I sorta remember seeing these at Chapters, but I never actually picked them up and read them. Maybe I’ll have to give them a second chance :)
Personally, I liked the volvagia thing, but to each their own. Also, for those wondering, Oracle of ages, according to the manga, comes after Oracle of seasons
This magna series was the neat thing that ever happened to Zelda. The games are great, but the Magna is what really inspired me to get into the games. I love Hakira Himekawa for creating this awesome series. Any criticism you give the Magna may be right. But for me, it’s just so good to someone who just came because they love Zelda or are reading for the heck of it like me that all the problems go straight past my eyes.
I'm so glad to hear that the manga got you into the series. While I do have some issues with it, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it, and am glad to welcome you to the Zelda fandom!
Awesome review. I have to say as someone who grew up playing these games from when Ocarina of Time first released, I'm happy to see they added to the story a little bit. What does get to me however is how the removed a lot of content. I've only heard bad things from how the pacing is all off. Even with all that said though, I'm sure I'll still love reading through this collection.
my favorite rn has to be twilight princess and its darker than the actual game and is aimed for a older audience i just wish majoras mask was darker since the game is darker and weird unlike TP but after reading TP manga i think if tthey ever made a anime series they should start with ocarina then majoras then twilight princess since in a way TP link is a direct descendant of oot link and oot link shows up as the heros shade so they start light hearted then it gets weird with majoras mask then dark with TP
I'm personally not a big fan of the mangas, I think it was a good idea in theory but besides the problems you mentioned, it also doesn't have the most appealing artstyle (mainly because it looks outdated) for most of the adaptations… A Zelda manga I absolutely adore though is the one at the back of the Hyrule Historia! For some reason, I loved its artstyle and especially the story! I think that's because it's a completely original story with no references and honestly, THAT'S what I want to get from a Zelda manga! If I wanted a short version of the games, I could just read the synopsis on Wikipedia…
Since the Hyrule Historia one is written by the same women, it shows they have the ability to create an interesting story! I kind of wish for the same. I actually wish the HH one was a bit longer. 20 pages is not enough. XD
It's always really confusing with manga adaptations from games for me, take the Persona series. You play the game, you roleplay and sort of choose how you want your version of the main character to go in the narrative - heck you can choose the name - so it is weird for me in that the manga has to have a fixed name and persona (no pun intended) which feels ultimately different from my choice and in a way makes my choices feel redundant I guess. In some ways more fixed stories like the Zelda manga/games translates a bit better but there is something inherently weird giving a silent protagonist you roleplay as a personality. Sorry I'm rambling haha
I remember reading these manga as a kid and they were really fun, but looking back especially after playing most of the games in the series/getting older/watching and reading other stories of the sort, it was not as amazing of a read as I remembered it being back then (still fun though). When entire temples and vast sections of the world get reduced to
I do admittedly prefer reading the synopsis of the mangas more than the mangas themselves. I do feel like there's strength in video game novelization, but as you said, it has to give a sort of flavor that the games don't have. Certain adaptations do it better - REALLY love the old Super Mario Adventures comic, the Archie comics do a pretty great job retelling the Mega Man stories and giving them actual character, and the Metal Gear Solid novelizations are... hoo boy, those are worth the price of admission for the sheer corny tone deafness alone - but seeing attempts is great nonetheless. My favorite bit is probably just them adding characterization to the demon Majora in the MM adaptation, despite the general struggle that manga goes through to get through the plot. Adding to the mythos of the Zelda universe is honestly probably a better time than justifying certain elements. Good stuff nonetheless!
They aren't different links. Link is reincarnated every game, confirmed by Nintendo :) Link talking is a definite yes for me they did him well in twilight princess and links awakening ;)
Shared soul (or “spirit of the hero”) or not they’re still different Links. Windwaker and Phantom Hourglass Link is not Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask Link is not Skyward Sword Link etc Where it gets debatable is in cases like if Link to the Past or Link’s Awakening or Oracles Link are all the same Link (or some but not all.) -especially since the timelines released in Hyrule Historia/Encyclopedia are utter hogshit that shouldn’t have ever been given more weight than the manga series or smash trophy-
Twilight Princess manga certainly isn't aimed at children. It's rated T for teens like its game counterpart. Dark aesthetics, limbs getting sliced off and PTSD ahead.
I cannot for the life of me understand why people do the "jump from side to side" thing. It's just weird. It's not compelling or interesting. It just makes it seem like you have ADD and/or want to copy others. It's slightly disorienting and definitely not good. It's just not the mark of a quality video. The videos that do that seem oddly low rent and extremely unoriginal. I just don't get why people think it's a good idea. It just makes your video that much worse.
I had no idea this series existed. That's so cool!
I just like the presentation with beautiful smile of yours.
How dare you call my manga aimed for kids my manga is for men

A good companion/supplement is a good way to think of them. On their own, they are just ok. As a supplement, there are things to appreciate.
Personally, I liked the volvagia thing, but to each their own. Also, for those wondering, Oracle of ages, according to the manga, comes after Oracle of seasons

for me, links awaking was the best manga series
Yeah. It truly was amazing
The ocarina of Time manga was quite rushed.
Take that back!
I AGREE! Ocarina of Time is Really good and shows how much a imbecile Mido is in the beginning.
Nick Bond hes saying its rushed... thats bad...
