Gotta say I'm thinking of a 4 D! Too many times when the wind is below 2mph.
I have a question about the state of the sport....
I did a lot of sport kiting 15 to 20 years ago, but I've been out of the loop for a while, and I'm just coming back up to speed now. Did the sport for flying these deltas take a hit or something? It seems like some companies like Prism used to have really high-end competition models (like the Prophecy), but looking around I feel like they're harder to find.
In addition, it seems like it's way easier to find resources dealing with power kites and kiteboarding/surfing rather than precision or trick kites...

I've only been in the hobby for a few years now so I can't really speak with any authority on the matter. However, I feel like the popularity of the power kites and kiteboarding do seem to overshadow the trick kites and sporting kites. But then I'm sure that there are still good precision kites are still out there. My Neutrino is pretty responsive when I fly him solo. With the stacks, he slows down a bit but is still surprisingly responsive.
Thanks for the view and the comment! 👍

I would recommend HQ kites for stunt kites. I have the nexus and quantum... they cannot even compare to HQ mestrow and infinity. I like prism kites for cruising, though. I bought the 4D and took it for its 1st spin today. It's an amazing kite. Goes super fast on next to no wind at all.

The sport absolutely took a hit in the late 90s to early 2000s and stayed down, if you will. If youre looking for high end or boutique kites, Canvas Kite Designs (USA), L'atelier Kites (France), Benson Kites (UK), LeveloneUSA (Germany/usa), Skyburner (USA), WindR (France), etc are good places to go. The resurgence is certainly on the rise both as a flier and business owner, but its tentative--- however, we're all optimistic.
The high end market is substantially reduced due to the lack of fliers that do want to fly and pursue kites at a high level, but thats come back fairly strongly in covid with some companies having a waitlist of 10-12 weeks, which is great news. A lot of people that put down the lines are coming back to the sport as well- if you're ever at an event or busy field reach out in some Facebook groups like the Pilots Lounge, Stunt Kite Classics, etc, and I'm sure a handful of people will meet anyone.

Decent, but having the camera on a tripod would be way better.
