    Terrestrial TV is on its last legs when you can get videos like this online. Thanks CK. Very generous to share the tricks of the trade with all.

    I went to school with his brother. They are all well reared gentlemen, a credit to Derek. All their hard work is paying off for them and they deserve it. All the best.

    Best talk I have listened to in years regarding calf rearing. Been to many calf talks in NI, Ireland and the rest of the UK and I always left scratching my head with some of the nonsense that’s spoken. The department seems to be the worst.
    Chris is a great speaker and did a super job. Agree with him 100%. Hopefully we get to hear from him again. One issue he could have explained was his treatment for when a calf scours as we are being told by many experts what you need to do but in reality it doesn’t work.
    Fantastic video with a clear, precise in depth detail. 👍

    Excellent advice & knowledge for young farmers. The calf is your future cow. You have to invest time into their rearing in the first 12 weeks to give them a proper start. Thanks for the video.

    Top video I think if Chris had a bed in the corner he'd never leave the shed such dedication alot of good practices and see how others do it right top tips
    One thing I do is dust the meal with powdered milk if the uptake is slow it's like a sweetener just a light dusting
    Best of luck hoping for healthy calves

    Excellent video , it could be shown as part of any agricultural course as your care for the calves is a credit to you, just wondered how and when do you dehorn ?

    • @LorraineKillen
      @LorraineKillen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! We will dehorn once the calf has moved onto the automatic feeder. We usually allow them a bit of time to settle on to it first before we do them. We use gas dehorners

    Hi Lorraine, how often and how many mls of liquid charcoal does Chrissy give calves with scour

  • @25paddock
    @25paddock ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Brilliant videos, Would it be possible for chrissy to outline exactly how he treats scour and what products he uses

    • @LorraineKillen
      @LorraineKillen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brian! Yep no bother - he uses Charbon Fluide Activated Charcoal Liquid made by Selekt. A jag is an injection - just whatever your vet recommends. Hope that helps 😊

    Mine have started to split.
    Fane valley are out of stock.

    • @LorraineKillen
      @LorraineKillen  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nope never! I did find out however, that the manufacturer of these ones went bankrupt and stopped trading hence why no one has any in stock anymore. Always keep an eye out for an alternative in any yards I’m in so if I find any I’ll keep you all posted.

    Just wondering how come someone has handwritten on de calf's eartag and what's with the thing around the calf's neck

    • @LorraineKillen
      @LorraineKillen  ปีที่แล้ว

      The writing is the name of the sire & the collar contains an EID tag which lets the feeder know which calf is which & if it has drank enough each day

    • @pauljamesfitzmaurice3192
      @pauljamesfitzmaurice3192 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LorraineKillen o right and with the handwritten tag would that be with the calf's for good or would it be taken off at some stage

    • @LorraineKillen
      @LorraineKillen  ปีที่แล้ว

      No it stays for good. Legislation in NI requires all cattle to have a tag in each ear

    • @pauljamesfitzmaurice3192
      @pauljamesfitzmaurice3192 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LorraineKillen o right must be only in de Republic of Ireland that u can't have any handwritten information on the eartags as I'm aware of some farmers put eartags on the calf's with handwritten information on them but they take them off the calf's before it leaves their farm

    • @markcorr6704
