  • Slurry storage is a pinch point on many dairy farms, with many options available, we went to discuss them with Courtney Sweetnam, who recently looked at increasing his slurry storage. Courtney is milking 170 cows on the outskirts of Douglas, Cork. He looked at different options to increase his slurry storage and found adding a ring to his existing tank to be the best value and easiest option.
We also spoke with Kevin Egan of North West Farm Supplies to discuss how to find out if you can add a ring to your tower and the installation process involved.
The ring was supplied by Paul Dillion from Linton and Robinson.
Our Farmyard Design team can assist you in evaluating your slurry storage and offer expertise in planning and designing the best option for your farm.

What would be the cost/benefit of a cover on the tank (assuming the pipework is suitable or could be adapted)? 1200mm annual rainfall (?) is nearly a ring by itself

The purchase price of a cover is straight forward enough but its actual cost to the enterprise will vary as some farms will have access to grants etc. The resultant benefits will also vary as elimination of rainwater will be more relevant in areas of high rainfall.
