    So far the thing that we have missed the most has been COFFEE, so this week we make coffee from roasted dandelion root and make a fried dandelion snack.

      That's awesome. I really wish I had tried this sooner.
      As it sounds like you do this regularly....Is it true it's better to harvest the roots in the Fall?
      Also, do you make in in bulk and store it? How well does it keep once you've roasted it and ground it?
      Sorry for all the questions.

    I remember my grandmother telling me stories about how her own mother used to make a dandelion wine out of all the dandelions from their yard. Its apparently really delicious if you can figure out how to make it.

    Hello Stef and Chris. Just had to let you know that my Mom Salome and I made the Dandelion Root beverage and it is delicious! I put half a cup of the hot Dandelion beverage with half a cup of Hot Almond Milk and a splash of Hazel Nut Milk. Thanks Stef for the how to on the Hazel Nut Milk. So yummy! Anyway, then I added a couple of pinches of Nutmeg with honey to sweeten. My Mom and I are just so excited about this new hot beverage that is free of caffine. Keep the ideas coming.

    Thing about dandelions is that they are a diuretic, so should be used with caution (if not outright avoided) if you have kidney issues.

  • @archangel20031
    @archangel20031 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A hand spade is the wrong tool for getting the root out.
    Get one of those HUGE LONG screwdrivers, like 14' to 18" long and shove it in the ground next to the root, then wiggle it around, then if the root did not come lose, repeat the process on the other side of the root, and you should get most of it.
    I've mad that "Coffee" and it tastes like CRAP mixed in with dirt. Seriously am not interested in trying it again!

    You can use the dandelion leaves in a salad. My mom made a dressing with mayonnaise, vinegar and sugar. You can make your own mayonnaise with eggs, olive oil and some lemon. And of coarse substitute the sugar with stevia. We use to have a dandelion fair at Waterloo park in Ontario, but they stopped it. They had so many different foods they used the dandelions in. Even had it in ice cream. Wish I had the recipe for some of these, from the fair!
