Under attack at Preah Vihear temple on Thai-Cambodia border

- Very rough video. This was shot between 3 and 4 pm, Feb. 4, 2011.
We had just arrived at the base of the mountain with another family, and were about to arrange for a ride up the mountain to visit the Preah Vihear Temple, when the shooting and bombing began. Immediately the soldiers there led us into a hole at the base of the mountain. There were continual gunshots and grenade launcher shots. A couple of times the whine of the missle sounded a lot closer so we all had to lie flat on the ground.
We had been hiding in the hole for about 20 minutes when the soldiers told us to leave quickly. The video starts as we were exiting the hole, but then the shooting and bombing started again, and we had to go back into the hole for safety. We stayed for about another 20 minutes, then the soldiers told us to escape quickly.
Our driver, who had been accompanied by his wife and teenage daughter, was instructed to take a different route by dirt roads to escape. On the way out we could see the flash of missiles in the air and the smoke from fires started on the hill. When we got to the nearby town the local villagers were packing up and the road got a bit crowded with trucks full of people leaving.

and about surface to air missle.it is a main target for attacker aircraft.it will be destroy before the aircraft in it's AAM range because air to surface missle have a longer range than surfacee to air missle

as far as i know the castle was on the cambodia site but the accessable entrace was on the thai site
@Soksabai79 We have also 6 frigates being built! The airforce will upgrade the F16 to block 52 which is the latest F16 version! It has also bought more blackhawk helicopters.

The castle area belong to Cambodia indeed. But this is the conflict on 4.6 sq. meter MOU area, isn't it?
Also, the other area that you Cambodia claimed that it's your area.
Please note that we didn't interest in your pile of stones and bricks thing.
@megamunchit2008 I think the problems lies with the French because the agreement made by Thailland and France on the demarkation of the border was that a stream running along the border shall act as the line for the border. From what I know (I'm not the expert) is that the stream is behind the temple, meaning the temple is situated inside the stream on the Thai side. If I could get hold of a map maybe I could send to you. Pls note I don't want to argue with anyone, but this is what I understand

don't you guys see? it's not about temple, but the area around it and all along borderlines. The temple is Cambodian's by International Court, but it's just the physical fabrics of the temple and the ground beneath them not all of 4.6 sq. kms.
And are you so sure about ethnicity? even themselves, I think they're not so sure what you think it is :P

at last, Thais and Cambodians who live along the borderline are friends and brotherhood. even our ancestors were lived together for a long long time. So, we're surely not need any long and/or heavy conflict just for sure :D

@yuv06 - When does Thailand use all those? In England, to make a test of a flying jet will cost a lot of money so don't even think of Thailand can use all those. Today 18 wounded and 3 died in south of Thailand, can you prove that Thailand can use all those to stop the killing in south?
The PM has already warned Cambodia that if a shell crosses the border this time! He has given the order for full use of force that means the army, navy and airforce so it would not be restricted to the 10 km area anymore! As he has put all forces on alert for the entire border not just at the Temple!
@MykhmerPride Example: Who's currently running your airport control tower? Thai company! This company is training Cambodian national so that in future you will be able to have capable people running the control tower. Who helped you to kick of your airline? Samui Air was your partner and Samui Air planes were used.

@MykhmerPride This is true check it out before you comment we have alot of investment in Cambodia from the private setor and the government! The government sector is mostly into infrastructure projects to help develope your country!
Soksabai79 I think that's old story the aircreaft carrier is currently very active and has been upgraded with anti-aircraft missles! It has taken part in many exercises including Carat, Thai-Sing most recent in 2010! Thailand had budget constraints during the Thaksin era! Not anymore! I just need to express some logic to you guys. First thing, i'm Thai I know not much but as i know our RTAF has plenty of "Fighter Jets", our RTN has frigates and an aircraft carrier. I'm sure that we don't have more forces than westerners do, but how many do Cambodian have? How these clashes look like, If we do really want to invade Cambodian territory? How these clashes look like, If we do really want to invade Cambodian territory? That's the question.

@AnthonyLoung Stop talking about the temple we know it's Cambodian! The current problem is the 4.8 sq km of land around the temple which is in disrepute! It's a completely different think. Pls not add 2 + 2 it's much more complecated than that.
@yuv06 - There are many company offering services to Cambodia if Thai don't want to get paid, Cambodia can choose Vietnam, Korean, Malaysia. You don't call HELP when you got paid, its Cambodia helping Thai company to make Thai people living their lives.
@sinra168 Cambodia shoot canon shells into thai schools and civilian few km. inside thai border line, and they says that it is because of thai soldiers walk few meter across the borders line. Thai army countermeasure targeting cambodia military camp, cambodia use the UNESCO world herritage as the camp, barracks and ammo storages
they even damage the temple aswell. Cambodia has captured some thai soldiers already

@srapla For Cambodian site, we don't have to be in that game. If it is a political game, you should think first. Who ignite this game to escape the national political chaos? That temple and area belong to us, Cambodian. That is why we have to fight for it, to the very last blood of ours. Our country is this small; how can we think of idea to invade you? I couldn't agree with you more that it is a political game, but if you are smart enough, you can find who is the mastermind behind this game.
@megamunchit2008 Than that goes back to what I've stated before that the temple is awarded to Cambodia but the entrance is on the Thai side! That's why I propsed joint management of the disputed area so it's a win-win situation and everyone is happy.
@Soksabai79 I don't think that's going to happen! During Thaksin era he killed thousands of people! If any justice has to be done than Thaksin should take the stand first.

@Soksabai79 You're right everybody gets paid! But your country also benefits by earnings from tourist and airport fees. Have you heard about "Deepening Economic Partnership: Towards Regional Connectivity"? This is a masterplan to develope the entire Indo China region! Currently the Thai govn't is investing in a deep sea port in Myanma in Dawei (Tavoy)! It will be one of the largest port in SEA and a road/rail shall be built running right through Thailand and your country to Vietnam.

@megamunchit2008 We have fought with Vietnam and once in the Vietnam war and the other time was when Vietnam were at our door step. We had clashes with them when they were in Cambodia! But they were not stupid! They knew taking on Thailand would be to much to handle! We will be able to call on millions of men under full war! Even at that time we had a better airfore and navy then Vietnam.

@AnthonyLoung They were liason soldiers which were entrenched with the Cambodians! The Cambodians always do this when they want to stir something up they would hold these soldiers! If Thai was the agressor would'nt they have withdrawn their liason officers first?
Thailand, Cambodia and Lao share the same beautiful culture. We all love our culture so much that we only wish to be reborn as Thai, Khmer, or Laotian . We would feel like we lose an arm or a leg; we would feel like we lose one side of our wall, if some days one of our nations got taken over by different culture. As a Khmer, I wish and pray that we be able to find the ways to forgive each other and love each other. PROTECTING YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND YOU PROTECTING YOURSELF.....

@megamunchit2008 Our military have more business with Isreal! They are the ones who refurbished our F16s & Huey helicopters not the US! Our M16s/M4s are being replaced by Travor & Galil from Isreal and we just recently purchase UAVs from Isreal! Our Navy are building 6 more warships in Bankok Port developed by BAE systems, UK and the helicopters used on these ships are Lynx UK! Our Airforce have purchased Gripen fighters and EWA from Sweden to be delivered next year. No US stuff!

It has Kings that were well versed in foreign affairs and how to balance the Colonial powers as they would have mutiple foreigners as advisors from different countries! This shows that they had foresight and this comes from good education and the keeness of maintaning it's dependent status! It's like a chess game! But we came out the winner because our Great Kings had the foresight! You and anybody cannot take this away from the Thai people

@yuv06, im Cambodian and my parents are. My grandpa lives in Cambodian and know what the hell is going on. I learn t the history already mate. If Thailand didn't steal Cambodian land, They wouldn't been a country mate. Look at the Khmer empire
@ishareful , Not every thai people live well as you think in Thailand, I am a poor farmer. Cambodian army can't never be compared with Thai army anyway. More experience doesn't mean victory... The key of victory is money machine and brain.
Now let's share information.. Talk like a human do ... in my country I heard that 64 cambodian soldiers were killed in action. Is that true? and I heard that only one Thai soldier was killed in action... but I am not sure I just want hear what you have heard

I tell you what both our countries have joint economic zones to the south! Why not make this area the same? Win - Win so the innocent people in the area on both sides can go back and live peacefully as before! As you know the Cambodians were awarded the Temple area I don't have problems with that! But the entrance is on the Thai side!

My friend, Cambodia IS going to win the war. You know why? Because even if we lose the battle, the Khmer still stand.
You do realize that there are MANY Khmers that live in Thailand? 50% of their military is Khmer. I'm talking about the Khmer Surin. Have you noticed that they STILL call themselves Khmer even after a couple hundred years of being under Thai rule?
Do you really expect the Thai Military to fight against Khmer, if anything they would surrender.
