This was before Marcos (The peso-dollar official exchange rate was P3.90 to the dollar in 1966 when Marcos became president. It fell to P20.53 to the dollar in 1986. The Philippines' foreign debt rose from $360 million in 1962 to $28.3 billion in 1986)

Yeah maybe support the coupt d etat that almost overthrew cory aquino so maybe corruption and poverty could have been avoided if she wasnt incompetent and unwise from her decitions we would have been ok i know she remove martial law but think about it its not her fault the people knew she knows nothing about politics because she was just a housewife but why did they made her pres that is a pretty big leap to make you know they should have just picked a better leader the one whos not corrupt, competent, and trust worthy but come on why would you picked a person that you know who knows nothing about politics she only got supported because corrupt officials funded her cause they know when shes in power they could scam money all day long

    • @veronsunshine5852

Yes I agree. Marcos has only destroyed the country with corruption and payed friendships for their own benefit to plunder Cities and the Nation. Democratic rules would have avoid it and all people would live in gud conditions- not only "the wealthy plunder friends of Marcos"!

I was 10 years old then. I remember vividly streets were clean. No traffic. Coca-cola known as coke was only 5cents! A jitney ride was only 10cents. The Rizal Park and the Roxas Blvd. was so clean, smelled sea fresh air for every Sunday, our family goes to church in Malate, take a short swim at the Manila Bay, then our family eat lunch in aristocrat restaurant! We had a wonderful time !

The Jones Bridge, from its majestic architectural design (as seen from Manila: Queen of the Pacific) now spans flat over the deteriorating Pasig River. Also the neoclassical buildings of the pre-war Manila have remaining flat after the reconstruction. So sad. The glory of Manila was only in glory of the bygone era.

LOL...Was in Manila July, 2018 and it was fantastic ! Modern, clean, and seemed the economy was booming. Sure there were some areas that you could see people living in tents along the highway...but then again, take a look at Los Angeles, California...downtown...no different. Pre-SARS-CoV-2, the Philippines economy was at 6% growth. I know people in Butuan, Anini-y, Antique and they are all very nice, respectful, and pleasant people.

@mimingkoh What I love about it here in Iloilo is that it seems both rural and urban at the same time. But now near the outskirts, I see walled communities with homes all looking the same inside them. If the houses don't look the same, the fact is that the subdivision's still walled, and give the same impression.
I support the free market, but it needs to be leashed at times. There're a lot of buildings in the city (some falling to disuse) which could've been restored and made into townhouses.

Sipa has been replaced with western sports like the dummy volleyball and table tennis.
Sipa is a difficult skill to master. Unlike socker where you kick a ball rolling on the ground, in Sipa, you need to kick a small piece of metal flying in the air and you need to control where it should land like volleyball.

Only fifteen or twenty years later since the end of the World War 2, Manila was rehabilitated from devastation of the war with the help of the US government. There seems to be a few squatter areas in Manila at the time, but rural landless poor flocked to this city around 1970's to make their slams in the public land state. Social gap between the rich and the poor have not yet changed until now..

Well, think about it. Around 30% of Filipinos are in poverty, do you think those in poverty are happy? They can barely afford food, let alone have access to good education and they live in wooden shacks right next to congested streets and dirty canals.
In the 1960's the Philippines was wealthy. Filipinos had high wages while good and services were good quality and affordable. My mother was a child at the time and she told me how much better life was in the Philippines back then.

Wow! I guess this was during Marcos era look at 11:49 that's "Palace in the Sky" in Tagaytay city. A very fascinating 360° view where you u can see the whole cities of Laguna, and Taal Lake.

    • @jov.642
      @jov.642 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Palace in the Sky was built in 1981.
That view may have been from Taal Vista Lodge (built in 1939).
This film was part of a series from PAN AM released in the 1960s and 70s. From the title, this film was the Philippines in the 60s. Way before Palace in the Sky was constructed.
Was it during Marcos? Marcos became the president in 1965. Was this film before 1965? I have no info. Was it after 1965? Neither have I any info.

Times 4 ang population in just 40years. Tapos magtataka tayo bakit naghirap Ang Pinas?
Walang economic growth ang makakasabay sa ganyang population growth.

lol even in 60s, Singapore was just a small backwater port city compared to Manila. Thankfully we have people like LKY Goh Keng Swee S Rajaratnam who truly care about the betterment of the nation. I feel sorry for Pinoys who had people like Marcos, Cory, or Estrada (esp. the former first one) to be their leader.
