We had bought a piece of undeveloped farm land in 2015 that had been sliced off a bigger farm. In order to keep farming it we needed to put in an Access Road for the farmer on the 75'x650' spit of land to the main field. The contractor had to do a bit of trimming of two roly-poly hills and add two culvert pipes. He did a great job of respreading the top soil but compacted it pretty good. He completed it the end of September in time for the Fall rains and Winter snow blanket. Instead of letting him seed the slopes, etc. I did my own blend of seeds: Red Clover, White Clover Annual Rye Grass, Fescue & Bluegrass Perennial Rye Grass, Fescue & Bluegrass And then finished dressing it with a cup of Red Wiggler Worms every 10' x 10' area. In the Spring, we cut the clover & grass high and let the Clovers and Annual Grasses go to seed to help the Perennial Grasses get a good Organic Nitrogen rich mulch start. At the end of the 1st year growing season, it was a beautiful sight to see how Nature and Permaculture work hand in hand. Phase Two was planting our Fruit Trees & Berry Bushes on either side of the access (future driveway) road. Phase Three will be adding fences to keep the ducks and chickens out of the neighbors yards and driveway while they tend to the bugs & slugs in the Orchard areas. Phase Four add my Honey Bees to work the Orchard, Clover & Wildflowers in the low damp spots and around the Pond. I love the Permaculture way in my old age and appreciate how God's Way is the Best Way, you just have to sit back and watch how He makes it all work together.
Last year I planted crimson clover on my property and I noticed the bees going crazy for it. This might also be a good benefit of it. Love you guys. Praise GOD from whom all blessings flow.

Good morning Mr. Danny and Ms. Wanda!!!🌞 You are always teaching me something that I didn't know. You're like a walking encyclopedia... lol and I'm glad to be one of many reaping the benefits from your knowledge. I appreciate ya'll very much!! Have a blessed weekend. Oh yes, I'm finally putting some of my my garden in today and I'm HAPPY!!😊
I am growing a large row of it. I was growing it to give parts of my garden space a break from plants that are always pulling from it. I didn't even consider the idea that it had health benefits.
I like how y’all utilize every part of your property. You make it work for you. Instead of trying to do things so cosmetically, you do things functionally. That in turn makes it beautiful in the eyes of fellow homesteaders. I read a sign one time that said, grow greens not grass. We all know the grass will grow and has many functions but you are a great example at growing what makes sense. And I do love and appreciate how Miss Wanda throws flowers in every nook and cranny along the way. 🌷🌻🌼🌸🌺🥀🌹
Wow, that one sentence starting around 8:40 that explained the whole cycle of permaculture! The worlds collided and everything started to make sense, thank you! My sister and I inherited a ‘gentleman’s farm’ that has been in the family for almost three hundred years. We are trying to keep it up, but are so clueless. Who knew my uncle, with only a sixth grade education, was the smartest guy around? I wish he’d taught us orally, shown us, or been literate so we would know what to do. Or maybe had a TH-cam channel:) Thanks for the video!
I first found your channel when searching for how to save red clover seeds! That was about 2 years ago and I am still watching and learning. I saved a lot of wild red clover and have spread it on my property. Stay well and thanks for sharing.
☀️ Good morning Danny and Wanda I really like the color of the deep fuchsia color of the clovers especially when the whole field is covered with them it's a beautiful color I have some I think it's just plain red clover 🍀🍀 🍀❤️
Backstrap and fresh peas. Yum. I remember my daddy planting red clover when I was a child. He also planted Kudzu and realized that was a mistake. That was in the 1960’s.
Very interesting! Im wanting to learn about improving and learning about pasture grasses. I am just beginning to understand what warm and cool seasons grasses are. Some lessons about pasture grasses could be helpful.
You’re so knowledgeable and you are so hard working! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I’m just starting a home garden and learned a lot from you!
We planted a good bit of Crimson Clover last Fall, also got our seed from Hoss. It's grown really well at our place in SW Arkansas, and the bees and other pollinators love it. I knew about the benefits as a cover crop, nitrogen fixing, pollinator attractant, and of course growing those deer steaks! But, the health benefits were new to me. Can't wait to try some clover tea! Keep these good videos coming! God bless y'all!
My boss cow is sensitive to the phytoestrogens in clover. It doesn't do her any harm, but she'll come into heat every three weeks like a calendar all the way through her pregnancies if there's enough clover in her paddock. She's caught us by surprise a couple of times that way!
Danny I plant clover in the fall in my garden for green manure. I take it in the second week of January and turn it under. Clover will put 90 to 120 lbs per acre.
Thanks for this vid. I am looking into red crimson clover. Thanks for the recommendation of Hoss Tools. I will check them out. I understand that sowing in the fall produces good results.
I planted some and my honeybees love it. I also planted some in my deer plot and noticed the deer, wild turkey and rabbits love it also. I can't really think of any way where it does not benefit the farm.
Good morning guys great video as usually your property is so beautiful. Love the permaculture man I am trying my best to get there. Have a great day guys
I planted crimson Clover last year. I have 1 clover in bloom right now. Lol I don’t know if the deer ate it or what. The lone clover I have is in a garden bed thats protected .
Thank you so much for this information especially the health benefits for menopausal women. We planted 4 thousand bulk Crimson Clover as a cover crop in Autumn. We have been letting our bunnies eat and clear each section of their 5 x 10 foot bunny tractor. Do I need to worry about bloat for them? Thanks for your time and help.
Can't wait to see the new project. Have several going myself. Always fun to plan out new projects and see them take shape. I'm sure yours will be very interesting as always
It's going to be beautiful! And plenty of clover to make clover jelly and clover lemonade. Y'all are like us... continual projects. Hard work, but meaningful adventures.
I’m so happy to hear you saying Permaculture more. Who cares if it brings out the “crazies” You could call your property a farm and it’s going to crawl up someone’s pantaloons 😉 Sustainable agriculture/permaculture/or working ecosystem is your master craft and only a fool would argue with you. So I say let the crazies loose and they’ll bark for awhile then move on to someone else. As you say often “It is what it is”. Thanks for today’s lesson. God bless. Now I have to go prepare for the 5-9” of rain we will be getting this week 🤦🏼♀️
Thank you! I've been researching the cover crop aspect of home gardening and been wondering how do I harvest some of these seeds to plant where I need it specifically on my garden areas.! I think I have identified some other but I'm afraid of it being the wrong cover crop and wasting time relocating. I may just have to go back to Hoss and order just my cover crop seeds. But I know for sure the crimson clover is what I'll be relocating! Thank you again for this video!
I was about to ask if crimson clover was the same as red clover. But it does not look like it. Our red clover, here in TN, does not have a seed head that looks like your crimson clover. Though the description you give for the crimson clover’s benefits, does sound the same as our red clover. You place is looking so good. You have done so much to it in the last year.
From a health standpoint, many times the different clovers are very similar. Crimson clover is an annual however when white and red clover are more perennial.
do you feed this to your chickens? Very hard to grow cover crops in TN due to boulders very close to surface of fields. I do grow clover (but think it is just green) and they love it.
Can you use the clover on top of the raised garden bed? When do harvest it so it won’t take over the bed? Or can you just turn it over into the soil in the raise garden bed and plant your peppers and things as normal
