Stay connected with Bodoland/Boroland (Assam). India. Lots of love from Boroland/Bodoland. Don't forget ur original Boro/Mech kachari /Kochari language, culture and tradition. We love all of u.
Making rakshi(jou) and selling it is not an integral part of the original Meche(Boro) culture but an aberration due to lack of development. The only way forward is education and reform. The Meche were once a numerous and powerful tribe allied to the other Kirati people like Limbus and Rais but most of them have now migrated to India.
Do they know how to make dokona ? Do they know bodo language? About 25 years ago I met a bodo people from nepal he visiting in assam he could say bodo language slowly.
During our research for the documentary, we came to know some middle aged people who could speak Bodo language properly. Obviously some youngsters prefer Nepali language. On their culture also, there is a glimpse of modern Nepali ( Khas) rituals.
Thanks for your reply. I could know from news papers about you that there is a Somaj Sibiary Afat, nepal. From nepal biratpuri Kanchanjhonga FM Radio a bodo programme relating to culture was to broadcast every sunday. Is this being broadcasted at present? How many Meches there at present? You also brew there. As we do in assam. What is the percentage of their education development in your nepal.?
According to our research during shooting, it is clear that Nepali Meche's are in higher education, in technical field and some have gone to secure government jobs. Government of Nepal is taking many positive steps for them. Please watch our documentary ( Mechi river and Meche tribe) from the beginning to know about their life style and brewing business too. Local FM radios do have some programs for them. Please share our documentary to your community people in Assam. Thanks.
Making and selling rakshi is not part of traditional Meche culture but an aberration due to economic stagnation. While rice beer was used for domestic and ritual purposes it was never made to be sold as moonshine. Education, social reform, economic development and peace are the only way out for our country.
I am trying to visit Nepal to see our people
