  • In an effort to cut costs and in the spirit of doing things by myself, I have been using eucalyptus poles, of which I have a lot, for several building projects. I have need of a bit of shade for my car and a lot of shade for myself.
My next 2 building projects will be shading for my pathway (which will in fact also serve as an air conditioner for my house) and a shade port for my car.
In the past we've always used edged tools to cut off the bark, which was tedious as hell and took a lot of time. This time I was shown a different method, and I will never go back to blades again.
Using a hammer, not only saves time, but it also gives you a cleaner, neater, pole afterwards.

What a way to turn eucalyptus into it's highest and best use - fairly straight debarked poles. I addition to shade structures, I would imagine the poles would be useful in agriculture. Good small business for the local people. They make pocket money and the ecosystem benefits from the removal of highly invasive eucalyptus. 😊👍

Well said, Steve. Also they are terrible for firewood. I have tried that many times. Coals just drop to cold without warning.
