In this first episode we show a favorite trick play of ours. There are different kinds of trick plays. Some trick plays have a big penalty when the opponent responds correctly. This trick play, however, has no drawbacks and can be played without fear. There are also examples of professional go players who have tried this trick move.
    Level: 8k to 3d.

According to AI, falling into this trick play (variation A) is good for white (W+3)

As a safe low level player I chose option C immediately, exactly because it seems to leave less of scetchy cuts, in particular at R16

Well done! 🦾 The sturdy and 'easy'-looking moves are often the hardest to play

A “trick play” without drawbacks is the definition of a joseki 😂

It's a scam. Depending on the position, main line is 3.5-7 points worse, than basic joseki. Trick play where opponent gets better position, when fall right into it, nice

What happens if instead of N17, White goes directly for A? I don't know how to deal with the cut although I tried different alternatives.. (Min 3:50)

Also in the game I played, the ladder favors white

@@CristianGV123 Thanks for your question! After White A, Black can push at Q13, aiming for the follow-up hane of R12. If White responds with a hane of his own at Q12, Black can jump to O14. It can still get complicated afterwards, but this should set up a miai for Black of cutting on the right side or attacking the upper side.
