If the house is on a golf course those wood shutters could be so golf balls don’t break the glass especially if its on a golf course plus they give some architect look to it and probably helps with the sun to the roof nets keep the balls from hitting the glass doors and hurricane winds because its a tall villa …. i bet they replaced a window or two before by golf balls

Hehe, that didn't even cross my mind but you've got a point! The shutters could perform double-duty as window protectors ;)
