    As someone who lives just south of Perpignan I was intrigued by this video and am an occasional user of the Train Jaune so am looking forward to next week. Couple of points, the 1€ is a regional initiative rather than SNCF (it also applies to all buses run by the Region), introduced by the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Government then taken on (reluctantly) by the successor Occitanie Regional Government. This particular TER line is not one I've ever had occasion to use as it's quicker for me to drive to Villefranche to take the "Canari" but, you might be interested to know that the reason for the "engineering works" that meant you having to take a bus from Ille-sur-Têt was due to the fact that the line had been closed since December 2017 and was only in the process of being re-opened in stages (it was re-opened fully to Prades and Villefranche in November 2020). This was due to the legal processes following a tragic accident involving a school bus on a road crossing near St Feliu d'Avall which resulted in the death of several children. The legal process was protracted due to conflicts between local residents who wanted the line closed completely (due to the number of road crossings on the route which they claimed were dangerous) and the regular users of the line needing to commute into Perpignan. Although the arguments continue to this day about blame for the accident it now seems almost certain that it was the driver of the bus who, under the influence of medication drove through the barriers when they were down. Just a quick final point, the Train Jaune itself is under constant threat of closure by the SNCF, or transfer to a private owner to operate as a line purely tourist-orientated (and priced!). This ignores the fact that it's also an essential means of transport for residents of the high cantons especially during winter. If it does suffer this change of ownership then it's expected that only the section between Villefranche and Font Romeu would remain open and the section between Font Romeu and Latour de Carol closed and lifted. There has been considerable local opposition to this proposal and financial support from the Region has been promised so for the time being the threat has receded a little and SNCF have even been doing some engineering improvements to the track (particularly following a recent derailment!!) but it's still very real. There is a protest group on Facebook "NON à la fermeture du TRAIN jAUNE" which is worth joining. Even if you don't read French it contains lots of video and photographic content on the line which you might find interesting.

    Thank you, nonstop eurotrip! Of course I knew you like Perpignan station, since you put it in close up on your home page. Obviously, I knew it before. ouch, I never imagined that there were many such small stations served by the SNCF. You see that a bus is enough for these small villages, and which takes only 15 minutes more than a train. A bus offers you the advantages of seeing the villages up close. A bus gives you the benefits of getting a close look at buildings. My comment is of course only valid for small destinations, villages and hamlets, and small towns. Thanks to you ! Thanks Louis! I guess this train is very popular to take people to Le Petit Train Jaune and for commuters to Perpignan and of much rather take a train than a bus! 🚈🇫🇷👌🏻

I'll tell you what I think. May everything happen in good conditions. You are adorable, nonstop eurotrip! (google traduction)

    As a child and adolescent, I spent my summers in Collioure (about 20 mins south of Perpignan). My family and I made the Collioure-Perpignan-Villefranche-Bourg Madame round-trip at least once every summer, to experience the magical Train Jaune, which was always the highlight of my vacation.
    Living in the USA now, It's incredibly nostalgic seeing those beautiful old graffiti-covered Z2's that I rode throughout my childhood 10+ years ago. I guess some things never change! I also remember going swimming with my family in the Lac de Vinca when I was 7 or 8 yrs old. Villefranche-de-Conflent is also an amazing little village. I hope you got the chance to walk around a bit!
    Anyway, great video. I will certainly be checking out the rest of your channel!

    I remeber waiting for a train at Cebere some years ago, to take me through the tunnel to Portbou. I noticed on the platform I was on ,was for French trains and the other for Spanish as there was a change of gauge. The buffet was wonderfully quirky in that the decor and the menu were unmistakeably blue/grey on one side with croissants and the the other red/yellow with tapas!. I am sure the counter assistant was dressed half and half ( as Ronnie Barker used to do) amd spoke French or Spanish depending on which side was turned to you! Unforgettable !

    • @NonstopEurotrip
      @NonstopEurotrip  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha that's brilliant! Yeah the French and Spanish trains will alternate a service heading into the others country, which is great imo. That buffet sounds great, I wonder if it's still there? 😁 I've done a video in that route btw on a TER 👌🏻

    I did this journey with my wife years ago, riding in one of the open carriages on the Petit Train Jaune, then from Latour-de-Carol to Carcassone, a wonderful trip. The only down side was the hotel in Perpignan, where the local youth spent half the night racing each other round the town square outside the hotel on their scooters.

    7:00 actually every z2 toilet is in terrible state. Even here in Luxembourg, in every CFL z2 you get in, the toilet will always smell terrible because the flushing mechanism is bad on these trains and water pressure in general is a joke (sink).

    Interesting that you use the Catalan rather than the Castilian, French or English spelling of what I, as an Englishman, would call Catalonia: if you speak that language, I take my hat off to you; a friend, whose degree was in Castilian, moved to Barcelona, but took six years to master Catalan!

    • @NonstopEurotrip

      @rogerdines6244 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NonstopEurotrip thanks: it has to be a matter of taste-to me, if a language has an accepted word for another country or place then one should use that, so I would use Catalonia when speaking English, and, romantic that I am, there is to me an allure about ña, which nya does not have, though they indicate the same sound. Keep up your excellent videos.
