  • In this episode of GetDomesticated I clear 14-15" of snow from my driveway with the GreenWorks 80 Volt Snowblower: amzn.to/2MuCIlP
    Spare battery: amzn.to/2YBen0a
It certainly wasn't the right tool for the job, but I eventually got it all cleared off. This amount of snowfall isn't normal for my area. Neighbor said it's the most snow he's seen fall here in the 17 years he's lived in his house. I'm happy with my purchase, if it could handle this it should be able to handle anything. I will be keeping an eye out for sales on a spare battery, really could have used it for this storm.
Some of the tools I own and love:
    Knipex Pliers Wrench: amzn.to/2GGwM5v
    Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum: amzn.to/2ysw8UN
    Milwaukee Brushless Drill/Driver Combo: amzn.to/31djtkD
    Milwaukee Hackzall: amzn.to/338nE3k
    Diablo 14 Blade Set: amzn.to/2LUGxRO
Klein Tools Tradesman Pro Ultimate Electrician's Bag: amzn.to/31j262f

    Milwaukee Voltage Detector: amzn.to/2ytuC4F
Milwaukee M18 LED Flood Light: amzn.to/2YAsrei

Bought this for my small back deck in the Eastern Sierra. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN We get A LOT of HEAVY snow so I was a bit skeptical but it was worth it! After the first storm of the year this has exceeded expectations! It throws snow very well, even 10-12” + that said the more it piles up the harder it is to maneuver the machine. It is exceptionally light weight and overall exactly what I was looking for. If you have a large amount of snow and a lot of area to clear, you may consider something with a drive engine to help maneuverability, but for decks, second stories, roofs etc, you can’t beat the light weight to great snow throwing ratio. Side note, the chute rotator is a bit flimsy and it initially didn’t seem to work, after a few uses it seems to have loosened up.

I got my Greenworks 80V just before Christmas. I'm 64 years old and my shoveling days are over. So far I have used this about 6-7 times blowing snow from 4 inches to 8 inches and I'm impressed as hell with the power. I did buy another battery but I went the reconditioned route for $85.00. Now I can blow snow for 30-35 minutes and have back up battery waiting so I don't have to stop. Charging time is about 30 minutes. Not sure what the longevity of the blower will be but like I said, very impressive.

Nguyen Lien if you have a small driveway electric. If you have a large area with a lot of snow get gas. If you get gas power equipment just buy ethanol free gas and you won’t ever have a problem. Leave the gas In too.

I bought a Greenworks 80V model from Lowe’s last night. Here in Indiana we get a heavy snow like that once, at most twice, each winter. Yeah, a gasoline powered beast would do best with a 15” snow, but I have always shoveled when the first 5 or 6 inches of snow have fallen and then shovel again as necessary, so I figured I’d do the same with the Greenworks. My drive has to be cleared by 6 am; my neighbors aren’t going to be too happy if I fire up a gasoline snowblower at 4 or 5 am. Thanks for the review!

”I just used it for the first time and it works great! do7.pl/Snow I live in the snowbelt and worried it was too small and wouldn't work well on a large amount of snow, but that wasn't the case. We received about a foot of snow and with the wind blowing, there were some deep drifts, but this little machine tore through them without any problem. I was amazed; I thought for sure I would have to dig out before trying to use the blower, but that was not the case. I love my little Snow Joe!”

The Greenworks 80v pro is a great machine for the price, plus it's lightweight and compact. While it's obviously challenged here, I like it for 4-6 inches where it does a great job. I had no problems with it for one mild Chicago winter. I just upgraded to the EGO snowblower which sadly hasn't gotten a lot of use so far for another mild Chicago winter this year. I'd love to throw the EGO against this job someday; I think it would be up to the task with the dual batteries. I realize that there's some situations that call for a big gas two stage, but that's like once every 3-4 years around here, and then you gotta store and maintain it and it's overkill for typical snowfall. I'd rather tough it out with a smaller machine that does a great job 99% of the time with zero gas and maintenance.

Yes for a tool that often sits for 360 days/year this is the perfect machine for me. Ego's look awesome, but have a big price tag to go along with it. I've seen some 2 stage battery powered Snow Joes that look awesome recently.

Everyone commenting about the “back and forth” work as shown in the video: I just did 1’ and higher hard packed drifts with this model. The key is to not keep banging it bit by bit into packed snow - instead, use your shovel to break out about a foot of width off the snow pack at a time, break it up a bit by chopping with the shovel. This loosens the snow and this model will cut right through the newly loose snow like butter. Saves the wear and tear vs trying to force your way through snowpack, and takes about the same amount of time. Battery lasts a bit longer too.

I bought the 13 amp corded version of this snow thrower. More power, no charging and over $100 cheaper. I have a 100 feet winter extension cord, so it doesn't bug me. I carry a cord around like when I vacuum. No biggie. But that cordless lasts a long time for a battery pack power supply 👍

Looks like it did decently well, considering it's probably not meant for that amount of snow. Only thing is it sounds "cheap" when running at full speed, if that makes sense. As long as it works I guess. Been wanting to slowly move to all electric stuff myself and just ordered the Greenworks electric snow shovel, can't wait to get it and see how it does. Probably get the lawnmower and chainsaw eventually too. I'm in Northern Ontario but we don't really get as much snow as we used to, this amount is not that normal for us anymore either so I can see myself getting away with the eshovel most of the time and only take out the gas snowblower for the big snow dumps that only happen a few times a year. I'm hoping they eventually make a full size snow blower then might get that too.

  • @andrewsmith9174
    @andrewsmith9174 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Most of the comments are unrealistic. This blower is a single stage one. I’ve had a Honda with comparable size and it would also big down in over 12” snowfall (not a common occurrence in Connecticut). You would not be able to compare a gas single stage with a gas two stage anymore than you could compare a two stage with this battery powered blower. After watching several videos about this brand snow blower, it seems that the rules for choosing it should match that of choosing a gas one: know your environment and the size of the job. This looks more than adequate for average snowfall of 8” or less. What I have not seen were any videos showing it’s efficacy against the stuff a plow would leave you at the end of the driveway. That could be heavy, hard pack snow in any conditions.

    • @GetDomesticated
      @GetDomesticated  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Because it's a light weight plastic snowblower it doesn't do well with the heavy stuff at the end of the driveway.

It's a difference in battery life. Worth noting, these are not '2amp' vs '4amp' it's '2 amp hour' vs '4 amp hour'
The 4ah will be about twice as long lasting as the 2ah if you are using the same voltage. (I'm sure it's not exactly twice as much because of some electical math I don't understand)

Not everyone has the SPACE for a snowblower that large. Besides, even with that much snow, if you spend the 10 minutes to clear it every 4-5 inches it will be perfectly fine.
Most of the people on here saying you need an industrial 2 stage for 8 inches of snow are probably the same ones who buy a riding mower for a 1/8 acre yard.

Maybe you should've used your neighbor's gas powered beast and gave him $30 and a shot of whiskey. That 80v snow blower was screaming " take me back to the display area, at the mall". I'll pass.

Is this guy in la la land with that amount of snow get a real gas powered 2 stage blower it's far less work yes it is more money but you get what you pay for one good gas two stage blower will out last 2 of those battery powered toys

It doesn't normally snow this much in one storm where I live. I'd rather have this blower than something gas powered.

And while your neighbors are using their two stage gas powered lumbering beasts of burden, they're already done. While you're still out there, out of breath, trying to clear the snow with that ineffective snow blower.

That's actually not true at all. I've blasted away the snow with the greenworks snow shovel faster then most of my neighbors with gas snow blowers ..remember not everyone might be like you say you are.. lots of people have issues with the gas, snow getting clogged, maintenance, getting it started ....

@@frankiea3752 This is a direct companion from his cheap single stage vs. his nabors two stage lumbering beasts of burden, as you can see the guy at 4:12 is just moving right along while goofy here is out of breath. This has nothing to do with your snow shovel (which is better than his). Greenworks does make better single stages; this isn’t one of them.
Also keep in mind that battery-powered snow blowers can clog too; the drivetrain has nothing to do with it. ;-) If people are having trouble getting their gas-powered snowblower going, that’s on them for not performing the proper maintenance. Even battery-powered snow blowers are not excluded from the maintenance category either. Inside still beats the heart of gears, belts, grease, and so on.

@@user-cl3re8xi7y Single stage snow blower are normally faster depending on the conditions. I get the drive way done in no time with my Ego single stage. In server conditions out comes the Honda gas two stage.

I disagree. I didn't expect it to last nearly as long as it did considering the depth of that snow. He would have easly been able to finish his full drive had he gone out at 4-6" depths. 30 minutes to charge is pretty good too.

And the neighbors are warm and toasty inside sipping hot chocolate while you struggle to push that P.O.S through snow too deep for it, or waiting for it to recharge so you can finish the job..... No thanks, I'll stick with my gas powered 2 stage self propelled beast of burden
