The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) is the aerial warfare branch of Thailand’s armed forces. Established in 1913, it is one of the oldest air forces in Asia. The RTAF is responsible for defending Thailand’s airspace, conducting air operations, and supporting national security missions. It operates a mix of modern fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters, including the Saab JAS 39 Gripen and F-16 Fighting Falcons. The RTAF also plays a role in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and international peacekeeping efforts. Its headquarters is in Bangkok, and it maintains several bases across the country.
