My father was in the 1st world war, in the trenches. He was a bombadier in charge of a gun , like a cannon , drawn by six horses. They rode the horses. Later after he was wounded he joined the Royal Flying Corps as a mechanic. He was training as an aircraft designer and engineer when war broke out , and continued with that until the second world war. He sometimes flew as a navigator in the little aeroplanes in WW 1 . In the second world war he designed guns , at the Royal Enfield Rifles. It was a reserved occupation. K

Hi Linda : I'm from Toronto and formerly worked for Dehaviland Aircraft ( the builder of the Mosquitos) and they still have the outdoor model of the Mosquito and photos indoors also of that famous aircraft here and there throughout the plant . Earlier this year it was announced that an old plan was now in action to sell off all the land and the huge plant to make way for an all new airport .
one thing I realize these days of politics and pandemics that in uncertain times comes lots of anxiety that is why these comforting songs came about in a time when the world was at war.
