    Finally, I realized this is all about inversions. I like that word because that's what I was trained with. You have a very nice technique

    Great Teaching .... these seemingly simple concepts used to take years to get through for the average player taking lessons from a single instructor. Very logical and most importantly for most? ...Visual.
    thanks for your effort

    Claus - this is a great system. Thank you for documenting it. To Doc, below: I would say that this is pretty advanced stuff. The foundation of Claus' system is a firm understanding of the traditional, "caged" 4 note arpeggios. Have the caged arpeggios nailed before taking on Claus' 2-1-2 system. Once you know the arpeggios in caged, then Claus' system makes more sense. You won't need it done slowly because you will already know the arpeggio intervals.
    The other important component, the one that really drives the system, is a firm foundation in both alternate and economy picking (ala Frank Gambale et al).
    Claus' system ingeniously integrates repeatable picking patterns with the arpeggios in a way that is easy to break out of into other ideas. Bravo Claus.

      But this has nothing to do with CAGED arpeggios…. These are the three 6 (& 5) string arpeggio inversions, like many shred 3NPS players use.

    Yes, CAGED are really cool for pentatonics. Arpeggio is a different matter.

    Hey Claus, where can I get a full printable layout of your 2-1-2 system. I’ve watched every video here on TH-cam and there isn’t one in the links and I’ve got several courses on your website and I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks man.

    Your style and teachings has got my level of playing much higher and thank you fir this , it’s nit too fast as so many say , if u are any type of decent play u can pick up in what your doing but I am lagging drastically in the right hand picking , I just cannot get it upto ur standards so could u please now ahd then incorporate the picking hand as this is just as difficult as the fret hand .. thank you love your vids

    awesome, I've been practicing my arpeggios last few months, putting some time in.
    how I have been practicing them is exactly how you show around the 7:50 mark. Take the two notes per string and sweep up and down, move to the next group and sweep back and forth.
    I'm having lot of fun practicing them up and down the fretboard, will start near the neck at the lowest note and sweep down, then move to next group and so on. made me smile when I saw you showing that method :)
    I'm still practicing them before moving on to more advanced technique like you show here. And after practicing many of them, started with A Major, then practice A minor, and so on. I can see the pattern developing. The shapes are all the same, it's just getting to know how they shift when moving from one key to another.
    Getting there and this helps !!

    Wow! You're finally giving away your secrets! Thank you so much! Never thought of arps as 2-1-2s...I was following the playability/reachability approach....and that means within a finger span of 5 frets...this new approach, if I'm right, will help me with my slides and sweeps also...
    Thank you Claus!

    Three things: 1. First off, great info. Fantastic training. 2. You finally opened my eyes to how to look at nodes from simple points of view, but you covered it so fast I couldn’t figure out which was the key note that is the focus of each node. And 3. Could you please teach how to identify the triads as a practice routine?

    need this for “how to adapt these type of tips to chords”. going from playing piano to guitar has become relatively easier.
    but that’s for arpeggios & finding scale shapes. the next part would be help for the chord structures. it’s hard as hell to work the fingering out having strange fingers & needing to cover 4 notes. Lol.
    Kudos to all guitar players

    Hi Professor! what's the difference between triads and arpegios? Can you play slowly for us?

  • @elementsofphysicalreality
    @elementsofphysicalreality 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the triads, you’re playing a 7 note 6 string shape. If you wanted to ascend and descend 8 notes you would have to shift shapes. If you wanted to go up and down 6 notes you said you have a new shape. What if you wanted to play an augmented triad? Is this going to work for both 5 and 6 string shapes?

    • @jazznotes3802
      @jazznotes3802 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      (A year later I know) but the answer is YES! Just raise the 5th up one fret, keeping the rest of the shapes.
      These sweep arpeggio shapes always keep their form, you only need to shift (up or down) one or two notes to get your augmented & diminished arpeggios.
      Same applies when your altering the 4 inversions of your “six string” seventh arpeggios.

    Wow I tried to learn how to play lead without ever learning other peoples music. Kind of like playing by ear. maybe it's because I'm dyslexic I don't know but I can't get to learn how to shred but after watching your videos I understand the missing ingredients. Yes to me I'm cheating just by trying to learn stuff from you but I have to if I want to get to that next level. I will use these videos and try to do most of them and if I succeed in 50% of these videos then for sure I'm subscribing thanks again Claus. PS back when I was young shredding was rare there was no computers and now it's flourished I just want to get on the bandwagon be like these other cool cats the Journey Begins

    Fantastic... i will try to apply this 2 one 2 system .. Thanks .... By the way what do you think of that one ? ...It is not the CAGED system... But let's call it the : F/D C/A G/E "system "... Using the 3 bass strings as Root reference ..... To build a chord or arpeggios towards the neck with your Bass Root placed on the D string, the chord will be as an " F shape" ..and towards the Bridge it will be a "D shape"....If the root is on the A string a chord toward the Neck will be as a" C shape "and toward the bridge an " A shape" ....and finally on the E string towards the neck G shape and towards the bridge E shape ... It can also be called as F/C/G/ (neck)D/A/E (Bridge )..witch are the # order ..

    • @moodyblues6800
      @moodyblues6800 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Daniel Urry Yes but not exacly cause as far as i know the CAGED system do not add the F Shape .... its based on the # entrance order ..

    I’m at an advanced level, but this class is just too fast to make any sense. You “really” need to slow down both your talking as well as all the hyper-speed pickings. We know you can pick fast, but doing that does nothing for teaching. It’s too much showboating instead of communicating the concepts. You need to be picking “very” slowly so every note is distinct and you can explain exactly “why” you’re picking “each” note. Check out Steve Stine. You both have great information to communicate, but he talks to us in a slow enough manner to process complex concepts in a way we can process. I realize how much effort you put into making these videos and the fact you’re willing to share your valuable knowledge. But communications is measured by the person listening, not the person talking. You need to seriously slow down your speech and teach like you’re dealing with children. This is classic advise I’m providing. Just slow “everything” down and you’ll have the best courses on the net.

    • @srmd22
      @srmd22 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Please don't slow down - there are plenty of basic, slow vids for that - we need more like this, quick and to the point for truly advanced players. A lot of us can pick up what you are doing at speed just fine. We don't want another horribly tedious "put your first finger on the G string at the 5th fret, then put your third finger at the 7th fret" example, ugh.

    • @BigDonTV
      @BigDonTV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Doc Tari, your comment, however valid, leads me to believe that you don't grasp the intent of this video. The title doesn't suggest it's going to teach the student how to play triads and 4-note arpeggios, but rather suggest a few concepts on how one might go about practicing them. Nowhere does it suggest teaching what a triad, arpeggio, or caged shape is, or what finger on what fret will make them so. It's implied, simply by the title of the video, that the watcher would already know that theory (comment at 10:04 in the video). Unlike yourself, I'm not at an "advanced" level, yet understood this video perfectly, and gleaned some valuable insights from it. Perhaps watch it again from that perspective, understanding that it's purpose isn't to teach shapes and positions, but rather just some conceptual ideas on practice and application(?). Thank you for another excellent video, guitarmastery! :-)
