Did this a couple years ago, it was just as magical as it was "back in the day". I've got a group that returns every/every other winter and we play like nothing has changed. The community is still there, you just have to search a little harder or create it yourself.

I have long since departed the world of vanadiel but as a former denizen I walked its paths for 10 long years... I could not remain in that world after so many of long and cherished friends had likewise moved on... I lost my will to continue playing... Those long years under tanaka may not have always been the best but I loved the game and the world for the times I spent there, for the flaws and for the peaks.
Wow this is old. The level cap was 75. There was no Blue Mage, Puppetmaster, Corsair, Dancer, Scholar, Rune Fencer, or Geomancer. There was only the middle lands -- no Near East, no western continent, no Reisenjima, no Shadowreign era. Getting around was harder. No mounts that you could summon anywhere. No home point warp, no warp ring, no survival guide warps, no Voidwatch warps, no Unity warps. Also the video itself is one of the oldest on TH-cam -- uploaded during its first year when hardly anyone knew what it was.
I stopped at 75 for a good while after lots of amazing adventure and effort. I'd never played anything like it, only a couple of other games here and there. The story and the work that must have gone into this still amazes me. Re-joined after the 99 cap and wow it's good to be back. All of the expansions are brilliant. Did I mention it's good to be back? 😀

There actually was and still is.. on HorizonXI. Most of the server is pretty much getting geared, the early days felt like how I remembered XI as a kid/teen. Feels bad for the folks that would prob enjoy HorizonXI but will miss out.
I spend 2006-2012 playing it too :/ its so sad that the old FFXI's over and i have no SS's of it at all nor vids :/ - Sometimes i kinda wish the old times to come back like 2006-2008, were the 2 best years i had on my life. This will always be my favorite game and I will play 'til they close down the servers. FFXI got me through a lot of tough times and I met a lot of quality people. Raves, gigs, amusement parks, clubs, parties, road trips, or shopping, could ever come close to the fun I have had playing this game. I wasn't the best player. I didn't have elite amounts of gear and I couldn't put in hours and hours of playing time but when I came home FFXI was always there when I needed it to be. TY ♥ FFXI ♥

This was such a good game. It was.. really artistic. It was expansive, imaginative, yet something about it touched down to earth. It had a lot of depth and created a lot of memories. I would say this is the true spirit of gaming. No games made these days goes near it and are all just pumped out by corporations to make money.
The story is captivating, more so than other games. You have 3 nations, that have separate stories, but they also share the other stories (Zilart, Promathia, WoTG, ToAU) with one another. Something like FFXIV... all nation stories have converged.
ffxi.. holds too much memories that i care to remember and will never forget.. hell i even cried when.. i got to level 75.. mostly tears of elation and i think i made maat very mad because i was a white mage.. hee
This video hit me so hard in the feels. While the game is nowhere near it's former glory, Vana'diel will always be my home away from home and it will forever hold that special place in my heart.
This video almost makes me cry because of the piano part at the end, even though ive never played the game. Nobuo Uematsu is a legendary composer. The graphics remind me of FFX which I used to play all the time.

I'm pretty much sure we will see 10th and 15th (maybe more) anniversaries of this incredible game. Actuallly FFXI is not a game, it is a lifestyle, a social club you spend your time within leisure hours. Very decent community, mature people, lots of fun together. Most important of all, it has incredibly rich content and huge amount of detail in every aspect. I'm playing for more than 3 years and it still amazes me, still lots to discover. Best game of all times (/cheer)

I used to play this with my dad when i was in elementary school, i haven’t played since i was like 9 because my pc shit the bed in 2010. One of the hardest things had to do recently was quit XI. I'd been mulling it over as I hadn't been able to keep a regular-enough schedule for a static or LS and I kept falling behind. But a job loss sealed the deal and I walked away from four years of amazing, frustrating, lovely, incredible, painful and exciting memories. Soloing on WHM is nigh-impossible but I loved to heal and help and *that* is what pains me - missing out on helping others enjoy such a wonderful place! RDB and Milk, /bow

The only thing bad about FFXI is that they are adopting gear level and such too... need to drop that crap and have some of the best gear be at variable range like older FFXI. That kept the "gear score shouts" that lead to insane elitism in other MMOs :\

Wish I could bring back the feelings that went along with this game years ago. Stepping outside into the ronfaure for the first time, spending days hunting sub job items, getting to jeuno the first time, getting your advanced job, killing the shadow lord, spending countless hours looking for help to complete AF quests, completing so many painful limit break quests, hitting 75... I've never experienced something with so many emotions before in my life, ever.
This game was undoubtedly my favorite game of all time. I still remember how awesome it was when I first hit 10 and could go get into a party for the first time in dunes, or unlocking an advanced job, but the best feeling was when(when 75 was still cap) I unlocked sky access, those were fun times. Miss this game a lot, may return very soon.

5 years on the Shiva server, 5 years of memories...but to attempt to return now, with so much changed and so many friends lost to time... Oh well, perhaps it is better that FFXI stay in memory for me.
They sure do,but friends come and go throughout my life and it sure has changed since i was a boy..doesn't mean i give up trying to live again :)
Least going back to FFXI means decent people unlike FFXIV with all the other MMO's communities merging... EDIT: Also, you won't have american players on FFXI yelling at JP players to "Go where you belong!" "GTFO WRONG SERVER"

The only thing bad about FFXI is that they are adopting gear level and such too... need to drop that crap and have some of the best gear be at variable range like older FFXI. That kept the "gear score shouts" that lead to insane elitism in other MMOs :\

Wish I could bring back the feelings that went along with this game years ago. Stepping outside into the ronfaure for the first time, spending days hunting sub job items, getting to jeuno the first time, getting your advanced job, killing the shadow lord, spending countless hours looking for help to complete AF quests, completing so many painful limit break quests, hitting 75... I've never experienced something with so many emotions before in my life, ever.
This game was undoubtedly my favorite game of all time. I still remember how awesome it was when I first hit 10 and could go get into a party for the first time in dunes, or unlocking an advanced job, but the best feeling was when(when 75 was still cap) I unlocked sky access, those were fun times. Miss this game a lot, may return very soon.

Desdamona, Caitsith Server, 3 years playing, i miss it every day. Supremejudgement was a Aweseom Linkshell. i still have pics of us together complete COP, Divine might, ZA, and so on and so on. Remasa, Mandarb, Xetas, Toxicity, Rain, Yunnie, Ironscowl, Kraizyguy, and many many others i forgotten. My heart will always be in Vanadiel and with u all.
