  • Shallow Sport 21 running skinny and mud hole shot. Running the airboat cut into Shoalwater Bay near Port O’Connor Texas. Water in the cut had birds standing up to their ankles. Hole shot is 3 inches. We tried to get the boat stuck in the mud to do the hole shot but couldn’t do it. 21 with Yamaha 200 SHO with TRP lower unit. In some frames the bottom is visible.

Do you still have the boat? been thinking about getting one. How much life do you get out of a water pump impeller? Cool video btw!

Yes. The TRP lower unit does have issues with the water pump. All black TRP lower units have to have a modification to ensure they prime and work correctly. The shave down the plastic water pump housing with a belt sander and add a thicker O Ring and squash it down. If this is not down there is low water flow and it does not prime and overheats at low speed. Also, if the jack plate is all the way up it can overheat after a few mins of running. But it will get you out of the shallows and cool back down when you get deeper. The TRP does dig you out well and avoids have to add a cavitation plate for the tunnel hull. The props are expensive and complicated if they get damaged. Not sure I would do it again

Also, the bite of the TRP makes it noticeably hard to steer

I think we picked it up only as much as needed but kept the wheels below the water line

If this is where I think it is I’ve ran that in my 14ft jon boat with an on the fly and no tunnel

You know your prop is like 13-14 inches in diameter right? And it is completely submerged.

It’s dug down in the mud

Yes, Haven't measured it but its 12" double props for sure. The prop has to be mostly in the water. It can throw a mud rooster tail and dig out sometime. Not good for it !
