Mark is correct. Cross contamination is real cooking and eating hazard!!! I also love the question as to whether or not he’s going to use the tongs to eat with! Love, love, love that!

I guess it is kinda like when you are cooking on a pan, you could use the same spatula to flip over raw meat... and then later, you are probably going to use that spatula to take that meat out. Do you wash your spatula in the middle of the cooking process? I understand where the concern is coming from though, the tongs are not getting exposure to the heat throughout the cooking process like it would if you are flipping on a pan... so if I were to cook in the ninja, I would use a different set of tongs personally. But I also understand why it doesn't seem as big of a deal.

I'm definitely scared of cross contamination! It takes only a minute to wash those tongs while it's cooking! Could save you from getting sick one day! But that, we may never know if you're constantly washing as I do! Hopefully he never finds out the hard way!

    1) definitely use clean tongs after handling raw chicken, 2) take food off the tray before removing it then you don't have to worry about dropping it, 3) I just keep 2 tongs nearby, 1 red tipped for raw and 1 black for cooked.

I have both the Ninja Pressure Cooker Air Crisp and the Speedi Rapid Cooker. I cook for one person and believe me, this is the BOMB! I love it. I can meal prep for 3 to 4 days or quick cooking if there are quests. Can't live without it. I give it a 9.0! I plate the chicken before I remove the crisper tray with tongs. The Presure Cooker Air Crisp is used only for large gathering.

I have a Vortex XL air fryer that I have no issues with, but I’ve just seen a Speedi for sale for $40 new and I’m thinking about switching. The Speedi does seem a little more versatile. I would probably just buy another large metal ring to attach to the tray inside to make it easier to remove. Maybe even try finding one made of silicone that won’t get hot.

I'm a "1" pot cooker. I've had my Speedi for a month or so now. Use it regularly. I don't cook at 390, I use 360 or 375 but keep it at 15 minutes. I divide it in 8 minutes then 7 minutes. I turn my steak, pork, chicken ( I like the way the meats turn out. I put frozen veggies on the bottom and I spray the top piece so it's easier to clean. I haven't tried the "air fryer" yet. Okay I just haven't figured that out at this time.
For those that are hesitant, take the leap and then do a video (I don't know how to do that) and I'll learn a new meal just like I did here!

Good video, thx. Late to the party, and perhaps someone else already suggested this, but how bout using a long two tined cooking fork to lift the top rack out... A little wiggle room at the beginning maybe, but if you twist it slightly as you raise it the weight would probably hold it steadier, giving you a little more control.

I’m totally Happy with mine! The only thing is when I’m making chicken and rice. It seems like it takes 14 minutes to start cooking. Am I doing something wrong or is it the quantity of rice I’m using in the bottom?. I normally do a cup of rice and a cup and a half chicken broth. Other than that this unit is awesome. Thanks for sharing guys. Love your reviews. Cheers.🍻

Instant Pot has a similar start-up delay, due to the time needed to heat the liquids. Pre-heating liquids will help, e.g. starting w/ near-boiling water. Maybe try heating your water and broth in a microwave first, while prepping other ingredients?

Yeah my mil, used to thaw frozen protein in the dish drainer. 😝 Scallops, Shrimp, Chicken, Beef. You name it she thawed it there. After the first time she did, it, I didn't let her "help" in the kitchen ever again. It grossed me out. I had to scrub the whole mess, before I would use it for clean dishes. She also thawed the turkey on the platter, and never washed it, just put the cooked turkey on it to cut up. Its a wonder she never made her whole family sick. Or is that why some times you didn't feel well after eating there??

Thanks for the great review. I have a Ninja foodi XL Smart Grill and have been thinking of adding this to my cooking arsenal mostly for the all in one meal capability and speed. I don't think it can replace my Ninja Grill though for the way it cooks steaks, burgers, and meats in general, and I like the wide open layout of the grill and the temperature probe for those things. So I don't think it will be overkill to have them both.
As for the cross contamination thing... I'm with Jamie on this, but it depends entirely on how you grew up. I grew up in the 60's and my family only owned 1 cutting board (remember the ones that slid under the counter.) 😱 We also cut our meats and vegetables with the same knife and never gave it a thought. This evidently helped build a strong immune system in us. The thought of cross contamination between meats and vegetables wasn't even thought of much until the 80's and 90's. And I just rolled my eyes and figured it was just a way to sell more cutting boards, 🤷‍♂
So as I said, it all depends on how you grew up. Because that's when you develop the immunities that are going to carry you on through the rest of your life. I will say though that whenever we have company over for a meal, I always practice "safe food prep" for them to prevent cross contamination because I know that's what they do. So I don't expect them to have the same high level of immunities that the wife and I have (she grew up the same way I did.) And the last thing I want to do is make them sick.

My answer is this is why humans have gravitated toward things like salt and lemon on their dishes. It tends to counteract the cross contamination. Salsas and spicy foods could be similar. Even in France I never heard about that. Of course hygiene is very important in a kitchen, but when I ear you, it seems that the raw food himself can be problematic. Here we avoid to eat raw meat of pork or chicken, but you can eat raw fish, raw meat (Tartare de boeuf is a delight) and nobodies got problems.

She's had food poisoning only a few times in her life. But I have had it zero times (so far). I don’t pay too much attention to cross contamination. I know it’s a thing and I take minor precautions but I have never been sick from a meal I cooked and neither has my family. I actually try to expose my self to things in small doses to help my immune system. My friend has Covid, I’m still coming over. I believe there’s a such a thing as too careful. That’s why I credit my immune system to slight exposure. And I rarely get sick.

Great review! I'm going to get one at Sam's Club today while it's on sale for $69.98! $30 off through Jan 21st. AND using the same tongs is fine! My question would be, But did you die though???

My speedi doesn’t work with speedi meals anymore. Fan not working and preheating stays more than 1 hour without doing anything.

Call Ninja! Or bring it back, depending on how long you've had it. - J
