I think "ni go" and "li go" are probably part of the different varieties of Cantonese, and the fact there are people from Guangdong who use different pronunciation. I think as long as they understand the point, it is probably ok :-)
Please upload more. Cheers!

@@CantoneseClass101 hi I'm Brazilian and train Kung Fu Hung Car (洪家), here in train we use the cantonese counting, but the numbers one (一)and two (ニ) are differents, I know a little japanese, this help to understand ideograms, I like so much. So, here in Kung Fu school we don't say 一 yat, we say ja(like japanese pronunciation) and 二 yi6(Sorry I didn't understand why number 6), we count saying ji (like a japanese). Other numbers the pronunciation is the same. I told to my professor, he said we must talk about this matter with masters. In japanese, four 四 shi, seven七 nana and nine 九 kyū have two pronunciation, yon, shichi and ku. And what about cantonese, is there some area where is different? Or really is a big mistake? Sorry, cus I try to speak inglish, I hope you understand笑. And I already signed up, cantonese is fantastic!! Thank you
Can you do videos for writing too?
Thank you so much..This really help me for my cantonese lesson..I'm filipino and this lesson helps me a lot on how to deal and communicate with the locals here in Hk. Cheers

I use li1go3 instead of yi1go3 lol
-I'm a native speaker from Hong Kong
You're right, li1 go3, ni1 go3, and yi1 go3 (ji1 go3 in Jyutping system) are all interchangeable
You mean like Jyutping?
Please upload more :((
Stay tuned, we're always working on something new!Sincerely,Team CantoneseClass101.com
This is completely different to Mandarin in writing, I was told that because I know Traditional Script in Mandarin that it'd be easy for me to learn Cantonese but "how much is it?" in Mandarin is 多少錢?
"多少錢" is understandable in Cantonese, too, as we use the same writing system. But for colloquial speech, it's 幾錢? in Cantonese.
I am Vietnamese and don’t know english very well. Can you write all the sentences which Olivia said in this videos. And then I can translate to Vietnamese for easier understanding. Help me. Thank you very much.

Very helpful video!
But, in the sentence, "m4 goi1, ji1 go3 gei2 cin2 aa6," is there a verb?
If not, how do you know when a sentence requires a verb, and when it does not?
Thanks!
Good question! There is indeed no verb in that sentence, it's literally "excuse me, this, how much?"
Generally speaking, "how much" questions often don't have a verb, but other sentences would have a verb. [Depending on how you ask, "how" sentences sometimes don't have a verb neither.]
Ah I see! Thank you very much!
Feel free to ask if you have any other questions! :)
I'm in Philippines I wanted to learn cantonese

Olyvia... no one really says 'ji go' for this do they? In HK, I hear ni go, or more often 'li go' but i dont think ive heard of 'ji go' til about 3 minutes ago!
I use li1go3, too instead of yi1go3 lol
-I'm a native speaker from Hong Kong

I was taught that 蚊 meant mosquito... now I'm confused...
In Cantonese, 蚊 means "mosquito" or "dollar" :) It's a slang and you'd only hear it in speech and rarely see it in writing.
Eg. 十蚊 (sap6 man1) "10 dollars"
十隻蚊 (sap6 zek3 man1) "10 mosquitos" (隻 zek3 is the measure word for "mosquitos")
Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

I know Cantonese but I just wanna watch this because all I see is mandarin lessons...
+SportyNatureGirl Productions tell me more about that
When I asked how to say how much in Cantonese they told me “how much is it” was “doe sow chien” lol
Your informant mixed up Beijingese with Cantonese. What you heard was "Duō shǎo ("many-few" = how many) qián (money)?" That would be a literary formality in Cantonese that would be read "Doh siu chin?" Instead of "doh siu", the spoken form is "gei doh (how many) chin?" The "doh" can be dropped, as in this lesson.
bravoalphahk thank you for the correction 🙂 Appreciate the information
What are the numbers meaning?
Raresh Suciu its the tone in which the word is said.
The numbers behind the romanization are tones. Since the same pronunciation in different tones has different meanings, that's an essential part of Cantonese language. :) To learn more about Cantonese tones, check out our other videos here: th-cam.com/video/XmmktTDoS04/w-d-xo.htmlm18s
