Thanks for watching this video where I show you how to place an image not just into text but into two, three or more Type layers at once! This is a follow up to an earlier video where we learned how to create a basic "image in text" effect, placing an image into a single word or Type layer. You can check out that video here: th-cam.com/video/YRFxm3IfrI8/w-d-xo.html. Please leave any questions, comments or suggestions below, and thanks again for watching!
Steve., over the past year or so I have watched many tutorials over a wide range of topics as I try to enhance my PS and LR skills. There are a dozen favorite sources I use repeatedly that have all contributed to my education. However, YOU ARE THE BEST! I love your exacting presentation, perfect voice pitch and speed, and practical experience, especially for those of us that are not as skilled as others. Thank you.
Your videos are simply amazing. Not only you know Photoshop, but you know how to teach. The visuals you have created make it so clear. And I could listen to your voice all day, even if you were simply reading those old telephone books.
I seriously watch more and more videos because the pacing is perfect, the information very clear, and the voice...I'm sure I watched a couple just for that! Which is cool. Best thing is learning!
after weeks of trawling through youtube "lessons" Steve's is the absolute best, clearest and most professional on the net (especially for a photoshop beginner like me). Thank you - John
I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to do more than one word. You have shown me the way. I love your style of teaching. You go slow and you explain every step very well. Thank you so much.
@photoshop Essentials. what screen casting software are u using for mac? I really would love to know because i want to start making tutorials myself on my channel. i am a graphic designer and find your videos great. Thanks so much
Or an another way to do it is to select all three of the text layer by holding down ctrl and clicking on the thumbnail of each text layer, and then apply a layer mask to the background copy, so the background will only be visible on the text layer. By doing this you don't necessary have to group the text layers. Great tutorial by the way.
That would certainly work, but there's a few reasons why I don't like doing it that way. The first is that, if you need to edit the text, you would need to then reselect it and create a new layer mask on the Background copy layer. By simply grouping the Type layers themselves, you can edit the text any time you like. Also, since Type layers use vectors and layer masks use pixels, the Type layers in the group can be resized as much as needed without any loss in quality, which is not true of layer masks. And, if you need to print the effect, the Type layers will print much sharper than the layer mask will. So even though you can create a similar effect with a layer mask, the layer group is easier, more flexible, and will give you better looking results.
Hi looks great love the way it done but don't have the exact one and cant work it out my Photoshop Elements 10 can you send me a link for it mush appreciated Thank you
I’m so sorry I’m late to this party. I just subscribed to your amazing channel! absolutely love your videos. They’re extremely clear and concise! I can see all the time and deliberate effort you put into creating these videos for the rest of us. I do have one question: Is there a way-after having done this entire process-to save the specific text part of this and have no background of any kind saved with it? As an example, say there’s a way to save the beautiful colored text “Under The Sea” but not have it surrounded by the black background? My dilemma is I’d like to print this text out without having it surrounded by another color be it black, white, etc. Thank you very much for your time and effort! 🙏
Thanks for your comments! To make the background transparent, just turn off the Background layer and the Solid Color fill layer (click their visibility icons) in the Layers panel. Let me know if that helps!
This has been a very helpful tutorial, Thank you. I have Photoshop CS3 and for some reason it will not allow me to create a Clipping Mask after I create a New Group from Layers with the Text layers.
Steve, for purposes of this specific tutorial, what font name did you use? It is very difficult to identify many of the fonts from the drop down, and what they will look like when applying. Thanks.
Hi Frank, I used Impact for the effect. It's not the most interesting font but it's nice and big, which makes it easy to see the text inside the letters.
Thanks, but how do I make the background transparent. I want to import the text I made as a PNG with a transparent background. EDIT: Figured it out, you have to rasterize the text layer and disable the two layers beneath it, merge the remaining two, then use quick export PNG option.
Sorry for the delay. Actually all you need to do is turn off the Background layer and the fill layer above it, and then save it as a PNG. There's no need to rasterize the text.
SIR I AM USING LATEST VERSION OF PHOTOSHOP 2021 MY PROBLEM IS WHEN I GO TO THE LAYER AND SHAPE VIA A CUT FOR EVERY LETTER THE LETTER ON THE SIDE PANEL DOES NOT APPEAR WHAT MUST THE PROBLEM ON THIS CASE
Really liked this tutorial. With most tutorials, I might get hung up on a couple of small details that I did not follow precisely right or in the exact order, causing the whole thing to hiccup. Not here, thanks

: / tbh I still don't get it maybe mine is defective but when I try to do the color fill layer, I follow the steps, and it never creates a separate layer. Shit is so stubborn lol
The text was resized using the Free Transform command. You can see how it's done in my previous Image in Text video: th-cam.com/video/YRFxm3IfrI8/w-d-xo.html

Hi Steve, I think Clipping Mask is not available in Photoshop 7.0.
Did you use photoshop cc 2014
I used CC 2019.
