I'm liking the chrome even more now. Thanks for helping me with that realization.
Dave god bless your patience level to deal with the tape to make it conform to the curves on the car!!! See you in the next video!!!!
Looks nice, but you can tell it's tape. Can't get bubbles out of tape. Us I don't think it will last long.
@@bryanstruble8927 Yes, it's not ideal.
Scuffing the chrome a roll of masking tape and a rattlecan of black seems a better option
The trim is easy to remove, so if I decide to paint it, that will be the best option.
the black does look better to Me the chrome pulls your attention to it
Didnt think I'd like it at first, but looking at the end results I do like it. Nice work.
Nice job! Note to self...order the blackout trim from factory when ordering. ;-)
Hope mumma digs it !
This is really helpful, after watching you tackle this, $400 for new black trim pieces seems more reasonable 🧐
I love the look. I am not a fan of chrome trim on vehicles.
I was disappointed that a black trim wasn't included as a factory option. In the UK you can pay an extra £300 for the "Piano Black Exterior" option but this doesn't include the chrome waist band. Petrol Ped (TH-cam) applied some tape to his JCW last year but I am not sure I could be bothered with the faff if the results are going to be less than perfect.
I think I would need to paint the trim to get the best results. But If I was going to all that effort, I might be as well just to fork out the cash for a factory set. Time is money after all.
@@ScottRods how much time did you spend for this taping exercise from the beginning to the end ? Time is money.. 😎.. At the end you’d be probably cheaper buying the original parts and have a happier wife.. and a better looking car..
@@ozhanturkes9116 The time is money rule only applies if you have the money to spend, lol. I did have the time. Couple of hours.
Much better than the chrome!! I'm not a chrome fan anyway.
I don't know Dave, you may be better off just painting the trim. Either that or you'll have to dip into your hot rod budget and buy new black trim, lol.
No chance!

Black Sharpie
hahaha, I wonder if I could get a really thick one to avoid lines and make it even.
Should have sprayed with glass cleaner to wet it, then can work with it and getting better results.
Dave I used black electrical tape on my cop car roof anf its still there.
I ordered mine with the belt line chrome to be deleted on arrival to the port of entry.. It was a hell of a lot more then a roll of vinyl that's for sure.. Reason being the Mini I own now has the belt line trim in red with vinyl and it only lasted a couple years before it completely delaminated.. I would also suggest Plasti Dip as a great alternative. I have used that on belt line trim and badges I had on a Countryman I owned in 2011.. that was a great solution but the gloss doesn't last long so it ends up matte finish over time.. another good video, keep up the great work and enjoy that Mini!
Hi Dave. How’s the black tape holding up since you first put it on?
I Love my Mini SE. I'm looking into tinting the windows and adding the white racing stripe on the hood. She's green as well with a white roof, cause we live in the desert and need all the help reflecting the sun we can get. We call her "Pickle".
Sounds great. I would add a black pinstripe to either sides of the white stripes. We did that on our red cooper s, looked amazing.
Waiting for my mini se to be delivered next month. Green with white roof, white stripes on the hood will be done at the port.
Amazing-er. 🥰
Will you consider clear film for protection? What about ceramic coating?
We were offered the film and coating when we bought the car (at extra cost of coarse) But decided against it. We had it on the last Mini.
@@ScottRods so it’s not worth it?
@@zhaostephen5800 The film is worth it if you spend a lot of time on highways or at higher constant speeds, for stone chip protection. We don't intend to do that much.
I'm not keen on the ceramic coating as I don't think you have the same paint finish, and you're not supposed to polish ceramic coating.
@@ScottRods thanks for the update, can’t wait for my mini se to be delivered next month!
Maintenance cost?
So far, zero. No petrol, no oil, no coolant, brakes last forever due to regen, no exhaust issues, no gearbox issues. One dollar a day for a daily commute.
@@ScottRods That’s real good. Appreciate it!
