It might be worth trying Stuart’s Proper DIY soil stabilisation method for paths / patios etc. I looked into in some detail (I am an engineer) and I’ve used it for foundations for a shed platform of a very sloping site. It really saves on labour (and costs). I rotovated an area a bit wider than the paving stones at each pedestal position to a depth of about 30 centimetres. I then rotovated a bag of cement into the soil and tamped it down. It’s absolutely solid, and very easy. No wheelbarrowing tonnes of MOT / bricks / rubble / soil. (Yes, I did a test cube first to assess the efficacy of the method, not that I don’t trust Stuart.)
What a grand job you've made of that. So good in fact I'll let you come and re-do my patio for me 😉 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the Mac family 🎄
Andy if you have nowt to do over Christmas... lol. Get all of the leaves from the bottom of your garden and put them on your raised beds. Don't let them go to waste. All the best fella.
Great video, good tips that were really helpful on mine. I have that same mixer from Screwfix, it’s a cracking bit of kit for the money. Have a good day 👍🏻😊🏴
Hi, I'm new to working with stone and i was wondering i have been reading books about this topic and ive never seen someone put the cement under the slab like you're doing. Is there a place i could learn more about this technique?
Cheers! Considered it but it just adds another step and the coarse finish means grout wouldn't be easy wash off the edges. However with no grout it means you need to be super accurate as there's no wiggle room to correct things. 👍

Seen that - looks interesting! Although I've got so much sand left over I need to use it for something. 😂🎄
If you want to take a deep dive, the us military engineer corp have a massive manual on the topic. Massive.

I love how organised, clean and tidy you work giving you great results. Wish I could be more like that!
Thank you! If I'm not organised I just lose stuff all the time. 😂😂🎄
To Andy and family (plus Nuggets and Chicken) have a great Christmas and all the best for 2024.
Thank you - and to you and yours! 🎄
Cement and SBR slurry/ primer painted on the back of the flags before they are placed on the mortar bed is what I was shown by a paither.
Defo! Especially on a dry mix. This mix was quite wet so sticks to the slabs pretty well. 👍
Such professional work Sir. I am a new subscriber for sure!
Thank you - welcome on board! 👍👍
Grand job Andy. Looking forward to see what you grow in the greenhouse. Have a lovely Christmas 🎄
Thank you! Happy new year!! 🎉😁
What a grand job you've made of that. So good in fact I'll let you come and re-do my patio for me 😉
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the Mac family 🎄
Ha thank you! I'm nowhere near as fast as the pros but getting the hang of it. Merry Christmas! 😁
Thank you for all your videos. Happy Christmas.

You're very welcome - have a great Christmas and New Year! 🎄
Andy and Family, Merry Christmas 🎄
And to you and yours! 🎄🎅
Great video Andy.
Digging for a patio by hand in this weather has been a nightmare!
But worst is the lack of light. Dark at 4pm makes it so difficult.
The lack of light is a killer! You barely get started and it's suddenly dark. 🤣 All the best!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄

Honestly on my list! All the best! 😂🎄

I would recommend you leave access all round the green house, just my own experience.
Defo 👍
Great video.
Another useful video, Andy. Hope you and your family have a happy Christmas and New Year. Cheers
Thank you - Merry Christmas!
Hi,

I like my fast forward ⏩
Hi Andy, great video. Just curious as to whether you considered grouting between the slabs as you would on a patio and why you decided not to? Thanks.
Cheers! Considered it but it just adds another step and the coarse finish means grout wouldn't be easy wash off the edges. However with no grout it means you need to be super accurate as there's no wiggle room to correct things. 👍
Looks good what timber did you use for beds?
It's C24 treated joists. 👍
A bit cement primer on the bottom of the slab would make them really solid 👍🏻
Cheers! I ended up using quite a wet mix in the end and with it being quite cold it seems to have dried absolutely solid. 👍💪
@@AndyMac i drench the back of the slabs with water before laying , it creates great suction between slab and mortar. Nice job .
