It's amazing to see this game still have such a huge fanbase that's continuing to expand after all these years especially since it was hated on pretty hard when it came out.i fell in love with this game the day it came out on the sega dreamcast and never understood why any sf fan didn't feel the same way. This will piss off kids that got their cherry popped playing sf iv but as much as I like usfiv, that shit is garbage compared to this game. Even with all its frills.
The first SF I seriously got into was 3s, thanks to fightcade, which is considered the lowest of the low these days, but I'd take it over playing 4 or (God forbid) 5. Maybe ST is better for learning fundamentals of fighting games but you will learn everything else much much quicker playing 3s than anything else 2d. I grew up playing mortal kombat 2 and umk3, but I really got into fighting games through 3s and I'm glad I got my cherry popped through it. It's made me better in the long run. If someone is reading this comment and considering trying out SF, I would recommend 3rd strike without missing a beat.
it's almost scary when you get insight into a top players mind like this. the fact that they're able to consider all of those options in such a small about of time just astounds me. all it means is i'm going to have to keep practicing if i hope to get on their level someday.
SFIV was certainly an interesting remix of all the games with the links system. But Third Strike is high-paced, and the execution is often extremely strict. Great stuff.
@Gercksid its not hate, it's explaining nuances of the game, SF4 and 3S are both great in their own respect but because they are both called Street Fighter it doesn't mean that they play alike. Alot of 3S players don't enjoy the Focus mechanic in SF4 because of its get-out-of-jail-free nature. That said you are completely correct in sales taking us up to this point
I just started playing 3s since 2017 and it’s crazy how high the ceiling for this game is. Guys that have been playing for 10+ years basically just toy with me. And I make an honest effort to learn the intricacies of the game but there’s just no substitute for experience and practice.
The wake up dp is the same in SF4. When you start out it's the most basic thing. Then you learn to expect it and avoid it. Then you get so good like Poongko where people don't expect random dps, so they get hit by them. But it isn't random because it's Poongko. And he thinks that you think he won't do it, so he does. What started out as the most basic thing to do in the game is a top tier strategy. Weird.
The whole reason that they have the IM WITH COCO is because, if you remember that coco got cancelled and word on the street is that cross counter is going down!
@lukesama You have no idea how true that statement is in 3s. When this game was first out people had to play against other people face to face, so if you were that scrub who did wake-up super or reversaled a lot you would not only get figured out and destroyed in subsequent matches, but you'd also be disrespected by your peers. I don't think you understand how bad and risky that stuff is in SF3. It usually gets you killed.
@R0bNBanks In terms of getting something down until you can do it every single time, not just achieving it once. The fact it's easier to execute just means it's more about the 'metagame' and outplaying your opponent rather than spending hours and hours practicing execution.
@MrTCSavage Look into a few BnBs, if you can't do an SF midscreen BnB in a few minutes then that's YOUR problem. Just because MvC is easy, doesn't mean other games are impossible.
How is Ryan in any way douchey? Do you realise how much this guy has raised the profile of fighting games over the last few years? He's the brains behind the CC team.
@Rogond09 It is not nearly as hard as you seem to think it is. Unless of course you are slow to react, once you have combos down second nature all you need to do is think/guess/choose to do that specific thing and carry it out TLDR, once you learn your combos second nature you only have to think of what your opponent will do and counter that.
Damn third strike seems so like more complex and more in dep compared to like SSF4AE. Inspires me to get better in third strike. Or a better player in general.
its' like I get what they are saying but for me it's gonna take me some time to get used to the speed and understanding the options. In ss4 I'm 90% sure of what another player is going to do and what I can do to punish but in 3rd strike I'm at a lost.
5 Star makes the point that parry is a potential way around everything. An interesting counter point to this that I heard once is that parry isn't a good mechanic because it essentially makes everything unsafe, so it becomes much more of a guessing game as opposed to knowing what is safe and what isn't. ie. it can diminish the need for knowledge because parry can get around any attack whether it's safe or not. Obviously, they also mentioned that parry is punishable and you shouldn't be looking to parry everything, but still an interesting argument.
@thesavingrobots that reaction is understandable under those circumstances, imo. gootecks seems like a nice guy overall, and him being salty about losing shouldn't soil that; everyone's salty when they lose
@raffield1 Haha I know. Talk about cringeworthy BS. Respect points XD. I play Q and one the things I do is Wake up SFA. Even if it's blocked, it's got that much power to force us both into the middle arena getting me out the corner. Since Q has high life, Q can take the ounishment. Good episode though.
@diasflac0g I agree. I would say I'm better than average at SFIV and MvC3. I was excited as hell to get 3SO. Once I finally got it (this being my first time ever playing it), I was very put down by the difficulty. That day, I found out that my execution was shit, and that SFIV motion input shortcuts were not helping me at all. I was the scrub that didn't know what the hell I was getting myself into. And honestly, if it wasn't for these two pushing 3S content, I probably would've quit by now.
I always wake up super xD but they're all calculated reads. Or that's what I tell myself. Jk who am I kidding I'm just a gambler. I'm over here doing wake up demons, pressing the joystick all quietly so people can't hear me haha :P
@lukesama 3S and SSFIV are two different games with two different mind sets. You can't honestly tell me you expected them to be played the same. Respect isn't some "scrub quote". Especially not in 3S. Watch videos of high level 3s tournaments and count how many times people wake up super or DP. It goes back to two completely different games with different mind sets.
I think this applies to all fighting games not just 3rd strike cause it has a parry mechanic. That statement is flawed completely. Controlling your opponent in the corner? We did that way back in SF2 with fireball trapping. Wake up game is always a risk no matter what game it is.
Wait a second. If me being regular ol' Kyle wake up shoryu's someone KNOWING they aren't looking for it I'm a scrub but if Yi does it, it's GDLK because he's 5 Star? BULLSHIT.
A lot of hate on SSF4 and they don't realize that if SF4 didn't happen then Cross Counter wouldn't have either and Capcom brought 3SO to ps3/360 because of the great SF4 sales so you should thank SF4 for that too, just saying.
i always looked at the wakeup shoryuken as a podcast more then something to be frowned upon by the community but ever since they went to video I can see why Gootecks may be a little upset and I-.......OH!!! wake.up.shoryuken. Ok -_-;
3rd strike is the best fighter in history. Period. It's like a work of art.
It's so nice that 5 Star took time out of his busy schedule of finding the Dragonballs to be with us.
Best episode from crosscountertv, though I'm biased as I'm a third strike player. :)
Very informative stuff here guys, don't skip this one.

I know. Its mental that it was at Evo 2014 even though its nearly 20 years old
15 years old is not nearly 20 years old. come on.
truth

cXdot nothing can beat the 3rd strike best street fighter then and now.
sometimes I wish to go back
This series' awesomeness was really showed in this video, at least for me a 3s newbie. thanks 5 star & gootecks!!
it's almost scary when you get insight into a top players mind like this. the fact that they're able to consider all of those options in such a small about of time just astounds me. all it means is i'm going to have to keep practicing if i hope to get on their level someday.
It seriously was, I don't understand why they threw out the whole parry thing in SF4. It took skill to a whole new level.
SFIV was certainly an interesting remix of all the games with the links system. But Third Strike is high-paced, and the execution is often extremely strict. Great stuff.
@RagingWolf The song is a remix of the nip/tuck theme, which has cutting sounds
@Gercksid its not hate, it's explaining nuances of the game, SF4 and 3S are both great in their own respect but because they are both called Street Fighter it doesn't mean that they play alike. Alot of 3S players don't enjoy the Focus mechanic in SF4 because of its get-out-of-jail-free nature.

@MrTCSavage there are relatively few normal to normal links in 3s. If you can cancel, you're set.
thank you guys for raising up the the volume
you guys rock!
Wow this video really taught me a lot about how to play fighting games in general... Guess listening to experimented players is really that useful

Good advice.
The grabs are for wake up parries also
I get all pumped to see that first to three! Damn it!
I hate that they say this games not so much about winning but about how to you play. ITS ABOUT WINNING.
i wish they play more, and while playing they commentate about the history and such
Any more episodes to get better? This is great insight
@xNewAgeWarriorx: What a well-thought-out, original response.
On that note, what do you think about Chun-Li in this game? ;)
@Naywein I think they want to get on the show!
@Gercksid Good point.
@lukesama
I cannot help but absolutely agree with you.
The whole reason that they have the IM WITH COCO is because, if you remember that coco got cancelled and word on the street is that cross counter is going down!
very good educational video. thanks for putting this together.
@lukesama
You have no idea how true that statement is in 3s. @zukuu Adventures was never 2-3 times a week or was it? It never really felt like it but you also never felt like you were waiting for a new one
@R0bNBanks In terms of getting something down until you can do it every single time, not just achieving it once. The fact it's easier to execute just means it's more about the 'metagame' and outplaying your opponent rather than spending hours and hours practicing execution.
@IQKZZZ nah. it was at least twice a week till a few month back...
Runnin' Sets Gootecks and Five 5 make it happen!
Still miss Excellent Adventures tho...
i enjoyed the history.. but damn glad they're playing now
Is the audio not synced after they start playing 3rd strike for anyone else?
doing a play/history lesson would be sooooo legit. Goo-to-the-tecks make it happen please sir.
The man with a thousand faces, 5star.
@MrTCSavage Look into a few BnBs, if you can't do an SF midscreen BnB in a few minutes then that's YOUR problem. Just because MvC is easy, doesn't mean other games are impossible.
@SithLordRagnos I can hold forward with her. So its all good.
I started playing in ultra so I'm pretty new to SF, my question is would learning how to play 3rd strike Improve my play with the game in general
How is Ryan in any way douchey? Do you realise how much this guy has raised the profile of fighting games over the last few years?
He's the brains behind the CC team.
these videos are really helpful and informative thanks you guys
A lot if not most of the mind games really apply to other games, although not necessarily vice versa.
@TheLuNaMaStEr
That's only on a Urien vs Urien.
I can never get a hold of 3S. Going back from SF4 to 3S and my input commands suck bad.
@Rogond09

@R0bNBanks He doesn't have to like it but give it a little more respect/credit.
its' like I get what they are saying but for me it's gonna take me some time to get used to the speed and understanding the options. In ss4 I'm 90% sure of what another player is going to do and what I can do to punish but in 3rd strike I'm at a lost.
Great training session! Love this! Do more for other fighting games please. :)

@Rogond09 It all comes with experience
Shoutout to Yi and Ryan
@raffield1

@Dishinshoryuken 5star says it in the beginning........
@YuenYun
You should hammer the buttons loudly, then not press that final button.
You'd be surprised how freaked out people get by that.
throws can be quick rised in this game.
Well looks like I won't be sleeping anytime soon.
@diasflac0g I agree. I would say I'm better than average at SFIV and MvC3. I was excited as hell to get 3SO. Thank you youtube, i dont have to sleep or anything

no wonder mr gootecks wasnt so happy when i woke up super him lol... but i am a respected player.
im still forgot to look at ex/ultimate bars
respect Yi
Gootecks is sooooo fine.
@lukesama 3S and SSFIV are two different games with two different mind sets. You can't honestly tell me you expected them to be played the same. Respect isn't some "scrub quote". this video is awesome. that is all.
@Guccibear100 im watching it at work right now :)
@Naywein They are with Conan O'Brien what's not to get lol
@MotokoStarwind dawg they put an ad in yo ad so you can ad while u ad
That Cross Counter Urien color is pretty fucking sexy.
I think this applies to all fighting games not just 3rd strike cause it has a parry mechanic. That statement is flawed completely. Controlling your opponent in the corner? We did that way back in SF2 with fireball trapping. Wake up game is always a risk no matter what game it is.
You always do normals max range....
Like that's only for 3s...lol
pogchamp guy???
i feel 3rd strike and four are really different games. you cant play the same for both. i fuck up in 3rd strike now because i played too much four
Wait a second. If me being regular ol' Kyle wake up shoryu's someone KNOWING they aren't looking for it I'm a scrub but if Yi does it, it's GDLK because he's 5 Star? BULLSHIT.
Gootecks you should do one of those hour long tutorials for urien
A lot of hate on SSF4 and they don't realize that if SF4 didn't happen then Cross Counter wouldn't have either and Capcom brought 3SO to ps3/360 because of the great SF4 sales so you should thank SF4 for that too, just saying.
happy gootecks is the best. so cute
i always looked at the wakeup shoryuken as a podcast more then something to be frowned upon by the community but ever since they went to video I can see why Gootecks may be a little upset and I-.......OH!!! wake.up.shoryuken. Ok -_-;
Soooo...what are the FIVE?
Why does it sound like someone's getting a haircut at the end of that Creative commercial?
Where's amir i think they should really get one of the best if not the best 3S player there was when the scene was actually alive!!
Wow star is SUPER SAIYAN
Who's Perry?
great great video. i call it 3rd strike paranoia
@RoydRoydRoyd :D don't be so hard on yourself. your videos are great too =)
@nZiFFLe Or when he threatens to punch someone in the face for touching cameras.
So its ok for good players to wake up srk/super but not for others? Lol ok makes total sense.
i
@nZiFFLe sometimes when hes playing alone he gets a little human. people think thats douchey.
Why does it sound like someone is getting their hair cut during the headphones ad?
