knowing that Maggie Smith is 84 years old and not an immortal makes my life so stressful and a constant worry
Her portrayal of this wonderful witch will make her immortal. Just as it has with Alan Rickman.
She will live as a history

Did you know that she was fighting cancer in the later movies and still played Minnie?

Such a great character she is.
I agree
I hated Mrs. Norris snitching ass
McGonagall was epic. So epic she appears in Fantastic Beasts and where to Find Them: Crimes of Grindelwald, in 1926, despite being born in 1935! ;D
He actually says "STUDENTS OUT OF BED! I REPEAT, STUDENTS OUT OF BED!"

Her happiness when saying it, was spot on and could be felt by the viewer. 😍 Best line indeed.

Best quote of McGonagall: "I've always wanted to use that spell"
lemme beg to differ: "BOOM!"
And when Harry and Ron are late to her lesson on Ron says 'can you imagine the look on old McGonagall's face if we were late' and then she transfigures back into her witch form 😂😂🤦
With her accent. BOOM!

I AGREE!
This is why Minerva will always be my favourite character. She was always so overlooked but she was an integral part of the war and the wizarding community. I wish we had been able to see more of her in the books.

What I love about mcgonagall is when she stood up for Neville. His grandmother told him herbology was for sissies but Prof Mcgonagall encouraged Neville and told him to tell his grandma that just because she flunked it back in the day, doesn't mean it's low level. Now that's a teacher.
Charms but yeah! It showed she was an incredible teacher who truly cared for her students
what do you mean by "sissies"? you meant "girls"?
She believed in every student she had
@@lol-sg9yy basically it means cowardly babies
@@lol-sg9yy pretty much, but I don't think that's the opinion of junalyntorrion2676. But that basically, Neville's grandmother had basically told him that a career in herbology was bellow him, and that he had to aim for a manly man job, like being an auror. Now, that's not exactly right, because if I remember correctly, Neville's mother was also an auror. But, the way Neville acts throughout the books, and how his grandmother humilates him or congratulates him depending on if he's being sensitive or assertive does fit the idea that Neville was held to a toxic standard of what a man is. Luckily, perhaps because his parents weren't entirely gone, and probably thanks to him knowing about them and what they had done from an early age, he became a different short of man. With burning fire that was always kept under control.
I hadn't really thought about it until this video, but I guess Neville's literally the proverbial warrior in a garden instead of the gardener in war.
"Potter is a boy, not a piece of meat!"
Just another one of her amazing lines.......
I agree with Minerva there. Harry is a boy, he’s not supposed to raised as livestock. Only showcases just how bad dividing one’s soul is. Though of course Voldemort does not care, he was born under a love potion because of a desperate woman infatuated with a man who had no interest in her. Therefore he has no concept of love and is heartless. That is what makes Voldemort evil, he has no concept of love.
I love that line
@@christophersudbrink4946 JK Rowling said countless times that the love potion part is nothing but ironic metaphor. Voldemort could feel love, he actually loved himself and called Nagini his friend because she was part of him afterall. He could be good and he choosed not to be. It's emphasized over and over in the HP universe that your choices is what matters and what makes you the person you are, not the circumstances you were born into. If JK doomed Voldemort into not feeling love from his birth, then that would pretty much sabotage the purpose of the story
@@christophersudbrink4946 he was litterly the ONLY way, he had to be raised as livestock
@@invisiblemann1756 she litterly said he can't feel love
I ALWAYS tear up at the moment in Deathly Hallows when Harry attacks Amycus Carrow because he spat at McGonagall.
“It’s not a case of what you’ll permit, Minerva McGonagall. Your time’s over. It’s us what’s in charge here now, and you’ll back me up or you’ll pay the price.”
And he spat in her face.
Harry pulled the Cloak off himself, raised his wand, and said, “You shouldn’t have done that.”
As Amycus spun around, Harry shouted, “Crucio!”
The Death Eater was lifted off his feet. He writhed through the air like a drowning man, thrashing and howling in pain, and then, with a crunch and a shattering of glass, he smashed into the front of a bookcase and crumpled, insensible, to the floor. “I see what Bellatrix meant,” said Harry, the blood thundering through his brain, “you need to really mean it.”
“Potter!” whispered Professor McGonagall, clutching her heart. “Potter- you’re here! What-? How-?” She struggled to pull herself together. “Potter, that was foolish!”
“He spat at you,” said Harry.
🖤🖤🖤
The respect and love everyone has for her is amazing. I love her. She's one of my favorites.
Has Harry ever used the Killing Curse? I know he used the other two curses
Zingu no. Not in the story at least. He defeated Voldemort by reflecting the killing curse back into him. Can’t say what he had to do as an auror in his future though.
@@adub1300 i don't think he uses the three unforgiveable curses after he works as an auror. The usage of the three unforgiveable curses were banned after the end of the second wizarding war
Having Dame Maggie Smith as the actress truly solidified how important Prof. McGonagall was, even without knowing her backstory while watching the movies.

Her comment “Potter is a boy, not a piece of meat” made me realise that she was the only one who ACTUALLY cared whether he lived or died without any agenda. Dumbledore only cared so he could defeat Voldemort, Snape didn’t give a shit about him but only about Lily, Minerva was the only one who genuinely cared about his well-being.
Minnerva's heart was pure for caring for potter.
Dumbledore's heart was pure for the greater good: winning against the dark arts.

Actually, Pettigrew was brave. To be honest, you must be brave to do what he did to his friends, you must go for it and it's not easy, and he knew the consequences. And when he spare Harry's life, it was brave to ignore your masters order.
snape... love...? it was obsession tbh
One of my favorite moments in the books is when mcGonagall is talking with Harry about how he yelled at umbitc- I mean umbridge, called her a liar, and said he who must not be named is back, and instead of punishing him she legit just says “have a biscuit, Potter.” And that changed my entire perspective of her.

Honestly I would rather see a bunch of Spin offs for for a lot of characters in the series than the Magical Creatures series. This is definitely one I would like to see.
Minerva was one of the most well rounded characters Maggie Smith did a fantastic magical job
matthew mann definitely!
Dame* Maggie Smith. A baws in real life just like Minerva was in the Potter-verse
@Joshua Bicknell not to be that guy, but the movie really didnt do that part justice. Reading the book gave me goosebumps and wanting to go wooooo!! But the movie was just "oh, cool"
matthew mann all of them did
you forgot to include how she encouraged Harry's passion for defense against the dark arts and helped him become an Auror. I love the scene where Harry is getting his career evaluation with McGonagall, and Umbridge is in the room insisting Harry could never be an Auror. McGonagall slammed her lol. McGonagall really despised Umbridge, I love it. Telling Peeves "Turn it the other way" XD
Not to mention she let Peeves borrow her walking stick so that Peeves can whack Umbridge with it when Umbridge was evicted.
Yes!
She's a secret master troll.
Fighting Faerie I would have asked her to leave
Not to mention she was the one encouraging Neville to pursue Herbology , rather than Augusta's preferred subject.
IMHO, Hermione is kinda her junior version
I think apart from Hermione, Ginny, and Luna, for me another great role model was McGonagall. She's kind, brave, fearless, and always did what she thought was right. I think she is a figure that many young girls and women can look up to.
She's a figure anyone can look up to regardless of gender. Heroes are heroes gender is irrelevant.
Indeed. McGonagall is smart, sharp, independent, good hearted, and fierce. She’d outduel Severus Snape in a heartbeat. Forget that his mother was a bookworm and that he had a penchant for dark magic. McGonagall is much older then Snape, and thus with age comes experience. She has more tricks up her sleeves then the little oddball up to his eyes in dark magic.
@@michaelhowze8198 yup
@@christophersudbrink4946 lol I would have totally had agreed with you on that if it wasnt known that Snape was actually on the good side the whole time
@@christophersudbrink4946 sorry, but no, she wouldn't win a serious duel against Snape.
Watch the scene again. Snape merely deflected her attacks to "accidentally" knock out the two deatheaters, to then take their wands, rendering them useless against someone of her caliber.
She's powerful, no doubt, but she'd be in trouble against Snape, if he wasn't halfassing it
I always knew that McGonagall was my favorite from the start, but I was always debating between her and Hermione. I immedietly knew she was my favorite when she called out the stone knights and said to Molly

When she releases the statues to protect Hogwarts and says "I've always wanted to use that spell" is probably my favourite moment of all the Harry Potter movies.
We all have the memory of childhood within us and Maggie Smith captures its resurfacing exquisitely.
I love how when the death eater spit in Mcgonagalls face, Harry revealed himself and really used the torture curse on him because he was so mad. And then said “I see what Bellatrix meant. You need to really mean it.” It just shows how much he cared for his professor who had always had his best interests at heart. Very heartwarming. (And kind of hot 😂)
I really wanted to see that in the final movie but soo many things I wanted to see in the final battle were changed for the movie unfortunately
I loved reading that, but I couldn't help feeling bad for Serius. Harry wasn't able to curse Bellatrix when she KILLED HIS GODFATHER, yet he's able to when someone spits in McGonagalls face. Does that mean Harry loves her more than Serius? Can't blame him she's great😂

For me, the thing that hurts my heart the most about McGonagall is that she was the one who had the most gut wrenching scream when she saw Harry's dead body. Not Ron, not Hermione, not any one of his other friends/classmates, but MINERVA FREAKING MCGONAGALL.
She loved him, she watched for him for all those years, since he was a baby. She was always his guardian, kind of a godmother in a way. She did everything to encourage him, to support him. After Dumbledore, her most trusted friend died, she put all her hopes in Harry, I guess most of the wizarding world did, too. Obviously that's not true in the books, but in the film it shows how righteous she was, how she wanted Harry to save the wizarding world, and how much she loved him.
Dang dude

She pretty much was his mother since he was a baby.
Dumbledore the single man that gives relationship advice LOL
A person, in any given moment of their life, is made up of all the moments that have come before.
I am single, yet I was not always... I have loved, lost, taken life, saved life, stood for and against the things I believe in, changed my mind, changed my heart and lived a rather long life (so far), guided by principals and a moral code. @@prantikamajumder8334 Molly and Arthur both were against it. But it makes sense. They didn't know that Sirius wasn't out to finish the job he presumably started.
Molly was also against Arthur telling Harry who Sirius is, because Harry would be naive enough to try and take him on
@Real Art 👍👍
Maggie Smith has just passed away today at the age of 89. Rest in peace to such a legendary actress, who could not have potrayed Professor Mcgonagall better if she tried ♡
Umbridge: *bullies other teachers*
Mcgonagall: *im a about to end this persons whole career*
In the seventh book she screamed out in protest when she saw Harry’s “dead” body
Clearly visible that you have read the books and watched the movies. I dont think i have ever watch a Harry Potter video so detailed and so well made. You have earned my sub. Keep it up!
It actually bugs me so much that Harry didn't at least give his only daughter her name but Lunas name..I mean I get y he respected Luna but I genuinely feel Mcgonagall deserved that honour more...
It’s Lily after his mother, not Luna.
@@aeshaahme3774 lily LUNA potter

If Harry had to grow in the wizarding world it be a tough choice between Molly Weasly or Professor McGonagall as his mom
both.
I've always seen her as a grandmotherly figure, while the Weasleys were more like parental figures. They solidified this when they became his in-laws.
Mcgonagall, weasleys have enough kids, but I bet they would be good friends
Both tough but fair great choices.
Sirius Black
Once again as always an amazing video dude, i can already see since your last 2 videos your subscriber count has desurvingly and drastically increased, so close to 100k but should be 1 million. Seriously looking forward to the next vid!

Yasss thanks
i will never have as much respect for a fictional character than i have for minerva mcgonagall.
Okay let's fight. Snape, Chiron, Nico, Dumbledore, Sirius, Tonks, Fred, George, Mrs. Weasly, Reyna, Hylla and Melody from out of my mind. (Some characters are from Percy Jackson. I'm assuming you've read that)
i will never have as much respect for a real person than i have for minerva McGonagall(and peeves(and maybe snape) )
What about the wicked escape that Greg & Fred Weasley did huh? Or Snape let’s not forget SIRIUS oh man and have I forgotten about Mrs Weasley hope not
And snape
Madame Melon I love Nico, I have so much respect, he taught himself how to use his own powers, managed to keep a good moral compass, even though with his backstory he could have easily gone down a dark path, he willing went into Tartarus (Hell) to help his friends, risked his life to shadowtravel the Athena Parthenos across the world, plus more
I’m sorry that this is totally unrelated to Harry Potter but I really love his character
What about the time when Harry was choosing his career and argued with Umbridge!?
Or that “have a biscuit” moment!?
That's why he flipped his shit and used the cruciatus curse on that Carrow puke
I love how this man gives under-rated people a voice.
"I've always wanted to use that spell!"
Is one of the many reasons that Professor McGonagall is my favourite character-along with Severus Snape of course!
A true hero in the franchise. Brave, true, strict but fair, and powerful. Her and Molly were like mothers to Harry Potter. She definitely deserved the title of Headmistress
Minerva would make a fantastic Ravenclaw, as well as Gryffindor. My favourite quote from her is: "What?! Do nothing?! Offer him up as bait?! Potter is a boy, not a piece of meat!" She cares about Harry and she knew that he didn't enter the tournament himself
Rachel Tang Ravenclaws rule!!! 💙🖤
her unpredictability and her witty jokes always get me
Ikr! I wish she was ravenclaw because is ravenclaws should have more representation in the wizarding world
Yeah boy
That’s why she is a Gryffindor :-)
A-MAZING. As usual. I've just finished watching all the movies again and I have to say, you have clarified parts I may have ignored or didn't think meant something but they do. You've excited me to re read all my Potter books again. So much fun, you've given the Potter series a whole new life for me and many others. Thank you thank you!
This is possibly the best channel for Harry Potter videos.
Maggie Smith will always be McGonagall. She has been a comfort after having countless teachers and professors like her. She will live on forever because of these movies. I will always love her and her portrayal of such an iconic character. May she rest in peace and we will always remember her.

And you know that I clicked on this video without second thought. God you deserve so much more attention.
I had to come back to this video to honor Maggie Smith for the role I best knew her for. Rest in piece Ms. Smith.
Minerva McGonagall has always been my favorite character in the whole series. She is a badass witch, a greasy teacher, and awesome person in general. She may be a side character, but she shall always be my favorite!

Everytime I watch this scene, I feel the bravery and courage in her voice... This scene always give me Goosebumps... Believe me or not Minerva McGonagall is one of the most important characters in Harry Potter Series...♥️
can we just all agree that Maggie Smith is just a national, no wait, international treasure
But will always have a special Place in British/Ire - hearts , such a Icon !
"May I offer you a cough drop, Dolores?"
"Have a biscuit, Harry."
McGonagall: "He has achieved high marks in all of his Defense Against the Dark Arts classes"
Umbridge: "Harry has been achieving very poor results in classes with me..."
McGonagall: "I should have made my meaning plainer... He has achieved high marks in all of his Defense against the Dark Arts classes set by COMPETENT teachers."
Ron "That was bloody brilliant!"
McGonagall: "Well thank you for that assessment, Mr. Weasley. Perhaps it would be more useful if I were to transfigure Mr. Potter and yourself into a pocket watch? That way one of you might be on time."
What an underrated SAVAGE
Yeah but we still love her
😂
It’s even more savage when she’s even including Lockhart, the guy that nearly erased 2 students memories and leave 3 to die, as a more competent DADA professor than Umbridge 😂
I know. She really reminds me of my Latina Grandma. Like McGonagall, she was very smart(she was a businesswoman), hardworking, and had a wickedly wry sense of humor.
I swear, these are so addicting to watch. I love your videos so much! I feel so sad for Minerva McGonagall though. She lived such a tough life.
I know there are so cool to see the backstories of these characters
What's your favourite line of McGonagall? mine is in the novel when snape said "but since Gryffindor has no points left, we shall..." and then McGonagall says: "Add some?"

Thank you for doing a feature on Prof. McGonagall. She's my most favorite female HP character alongside Hermione :)

I love that she was not afraid to call out dumbledore when he was purposely putting harry in danger.
She is my favorite character is the series.
I have so much respect for Mcgonagal she suffered so much but is probably one of my favourite witches. Also, great video! Never knew so much and I love your channel too
Jeremiah Williams I agree. Minerva McGonagall and Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood are the best witches at Hogwarts. And my favorite witches outside of Hogwarts are Molly Weasley and Fleur. I forgot, but if Molly didn't go to Hogwarts where was she trained? Homeschooled probably?
