    I remember watching and loving this show. It wasn't dumbed down like other Saturday morning cartoons. It was pretty serious stuff. Plus I liked how ape society was a lot more technically advanced too. This series was probably more closer to the book.

    • @joelashadali
      @joelashadali 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It was absolutely closer to the book. The reason the original movie wasn't was due to budget constraints. Looking back I think it worked out for the best. Not sure I would have liked it as much if they were driving and flying in a futuristic setting.

      There was such an absence of TV sci-fi at this time (1970-77) that top-notch, established writers would agree to pen for whatever was out there, incld. Voyage of the Starlost (Harlan Elison), Land of the Lost (DC Fontana), and the Star Trek animated series (multiple). The drought was broken by Logan's Run, and then erased entirely by the raft of Star Wars-inspired sci-fi that arrived beginning in '78.

    "RETURN TO THE PLANET OF THE APES" was an NBC Saturday morning cartoon series for the 1975-76 TV season. it was produced by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises
    and Twentieth Century Fox Television,and the supervising animation producer was Doug Wildey,best known for his creation,"JONNY QUEST" for Hanna-Barbera in 1964-he later did the "Godzilla" cartoon series for Hanna-Barbera in 1978.and the voice of "General Urko" was played by Henry Corden,who did the voice of Fred Flintstone-plus an assorted
    collection of other voices,including DePatie-Freleng's 1972 cartoon series, "THE BARKLEYS",which many compared to "ALL IN THE FAMILY". but another great cartoon voice that Henry Corden also did,was in "THE HILLBILLIE BEARS" in 1965.

I am forever grateful for the genuine efforts of Europe, the USSR, and Japan for wanting to do something actually substantial and meaningful with the medium, but unfortunately, for better or worse, likely the latter, America is the standard by what the world believes and behaves like, when it sneezes the rest of the globe catches a cold.

    Wow , I never knew they made a cartoon show out of Planet of the Apes. I remember the live action TV series being shown endlessly on Saturday Morning TV and later finding out that it was actually based on a series of Movies . This seems a little bit static compared to the cartoon shows of the 1990's; probably not many frames per minute. It seems more comparable to the Star Trek Animated series Back then an hour long TV show was a lot to sit through, but I wish they showed them now on some channel , coz I have a lot more time to kill now I'm grown up. I wish they would show the movies too coz they were very highly regarded in their time

  • @QuorkEx

    This makes about a dozen astronauts who have crashed on the Planet of the Apes (although 2 did not survive). In the TV series Zaius also mentions an unspecified number of astronauts who arrived 10 years before Virdon and Burke and who were killed. So call it approximately 15.
    That's more than have walked on the moon.

      Maybe it had already been accelerated to near light speed with a booster that was discarded? That would be my first thought, if your question was a serious inquiry. But I think it would have been better had they kept a more futuristic vehicle such as was used in the film.

    Good upload. 1 relevant historical curiosity about the some of the sound effects used in this 1st episode of the: "R. P. A.". Is that the blaring-horn calling sound: was done by using a Neanderthal age -> modified Woolly-Rhino horn musical instrument. That was found buried in a cave in nowadays Prussia. It's calculated that this blaring-horn was originally made and utilized 15 thousand years ago. One can note how its sounds a bit like the loud call of a Mammoth. Unfortunately, the Europeans did drove the Woolly-Rhino and the Mammoth great beasts into their extinction.

      They are just effigies, meant to frighten human interlopers away from ape territory. But they're shown hung upside-down -- and the Romans crucified people whom they REALLY didn't like upside-down. It was considered the very worst way to die.
