When I came upon this posting and read the very touching comments by all of the women, I felt impressed to share some of my own thoughts as a 70 year old man. I grew up 6 miles away from Orchard House. Hawthorne lived next door for a short time and Emerson is right down the street. They all knew each other and are buried in the nearby Sleepy Hollow Cemetery also in Concord, MA. Many people leave notes and pencils in front of Louisa's grave. It's very heartwarming. When Emerson's young son Waldo died at age 5, Louisa went down to console him and they both wept together. Bronson Alcott and Emerson were very active in the transcendental movement and were great friends also. If any of you lovers of Louisa May Alcott have bucket lists, I hope that you'll add to it a desire to visit this very special place
I visited Orchard House and loved it! It was like stepping into Little Women. Louisa's grave, when I went, had a lot of pinecones placed around it, some coins, and a pencil.
the 1994 little women soundtrack is the one piece of classical music that just makes me feel something.

It's on my list! I want to see Concord one day, and visit all the homes of the writers, see Walden's Pond and everything.
