Love this! I actually just went to Hobby Lobby today for this exact reason! Love their stamps! Your pumpkin Pie Soaps sure look delightful and I bet they smell divine! Love your vids and blog! xoxo Katie
Tried it on my HP soaps and boy does it pretty them up, after all there is just so much you can do with HP. My son had fun picking out the stamps with me at the local craft store. Thanks again Amy!! Diana
There is a bit of an indent - that's why I use the fresh soap while it's still a bit soft. The mica will wash away in the first couple of uses, but it sticks fairly well until then.
The soap looks great, Amy! I haven't played around much with stamps, but I have always loved the look. And the mica really makes the design pop. I'm going to make a pumpkin soap soon, too, and it would be nice to embellish it somehow since the FO does discolor dark brown. Thanks for sharing your technique - I need to make a trip to the craft store and see what they've got!
That's true, Josh, but it can take up to 24 hours or so for the saponification process to complete in a cold-process soap. So it could be a tad caustic when you first cut & stamp it.
Thanks! I am going to give this a try ! That pumpkin looks so very pretty! Just love it! Mica comes in so many pretty colors, guess I am going to have to get them all! lol!
Have you tried mica stamping with a soap stamp to really push the design in? I battle discoloration as my fave fo are vanilla based, I always leave most of My batter unscented and put all the fo into one portion I usually add activated charcoal to make that portion black.
My stamps cost under 5 bucks....I love butterflies...so I figure if the lye ate it....its cheap enough to get another one. This vid inspired me more than you know!
You can always mix liquid vegetable Glycerin with the mica and use a small brush to brush on the mica/glycerin mixture to the stamp and then stamp it in as well if you are worried about lye eating your rubber stamp.
what a creative idea! those looks so nice. yeah, i think the soap is mostly saponified after 24 hours by the time you cut it anyway, so i don't think there's enough of an interaction between any lye and the rubber to cause degredation. just my opinion. glad you go with what works! that's the way i do things. :)
I use ink stamps too. Best to use right after slicing when soap is soft. A lot cheaper than soap stamps which I also have. Great idea. Lovely soap too.
Hi Amy, on a different topic, I am new to soap making and LOVE it. I've never met anyone who made soap before and since I've gotten into it I'm amazed at how large the soaping community is! Anyway, I've been using recipes from the Everything soap book- pretty standard recipes. Primarily a Coconut, olive, palm oil combo, and a olive, coconut, sweet almond, (oils) and shea butter recipe, and castile. My cousin, who buys Lush products, says my soap is too hard. She wants a softer soap. I think hard is good for most people, but could you give me advice on how to make a softer loaf for her? I appreciate any info, thanks for you time.
+Maggie McGuinness Ha ha! Yes, most people are looking for a harder bar so it will last as long as possible!! Decrease the coconut oil (20-25% of total oils)and increase the olive oil to make up the difference and/or add some castor oil (10% or so). Best wishes to you!
Wonderful idea. After watching this video, I tried the stamping with some pearl dust I had leftover from my cake decorating days. Seems to work just fine. :-)
It does some. If you can press the stamp into the soap just a bit so it's not directly on the surface, that helps. It's really just for fun until the first or second use. :)
Hi Amy, Thank you for this very informative video. I am so glad to know that I can use the inventory of rubber stamps that I already have. I was sad thinking that I had to buy stamps that are not rubber. I would also like to ask if it would be okay for me to post your video on my FB Group page? You Rock
I love this idea. Thank you. However one caveat: some rubber stamp companies only sell for hobby personal use. Some companies say you cannot use them in items you will sell. It is called an angel policy. Seems the small cottage business rubber stamp companies are the ones who are restrictive. Thank you for making this video!
louise lill It will come off in the first few washes, yes. One person commented that she sprayed the soap with rubbing alcohol and it helped set the mica. It's definitely a temporary design!
corena garoutte I couldn't say, as I've never tried it. The mica is going to wash off after a couple of uses no matter what you do though since it's just a surface treatment. All in good fun!
Wow! That is dark. I only use naturals and pure essential oils, but, my pumpkin soaps all are either the bright orange of natural pumpkin, or the color of pumpkin pie. What is making yours so dark? Love the stamp ideas. 😁
Brenda, most fragrances that have a lot of vanilla in them will darken the soap...depending on the fragrance, it can be anywhere from a light tan to nearly black. They do this gradually during the cure.
I haven't tried it, but MP soap base is much harder and probably wouldn't form an impression. You might have a design from the mica on the surface only and it would probably smear.

Very informative! Also, the stamping looks awesome. =)

Oh yes, that would be another great resource! Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for your comment, Christine! I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense. :)
That does sound about right. :) Thanks for your comment!

what a great use for the stamps that I just don't use in papercrafting much anymore. thanks!
No problem! Hope you try it out!
Thanks Amy for the clips. I understand that will be no Lye left after saponification so definitely it will not affect the rubber of the stamp.
Awesome demo. I have a ton of rubber stamps, cant wait to try this!!! Thank you!
Jennifer Delach No problem! Have fun!!
Oh sure! Thanks for your comment!
Great idea, gives a beautiful finishing touch to any soap. Thanks for sharing this. Luv, Rene x

Yes! You should try it!
OH my I have a collection of Stamps that I use for card Making! YAY!! And Now I can use for my Soaps! TFS
You're welcome!!! 😁
Amy you always come up with such great ideas, thank you for this, x Linda
Thanks, Deb! You do have to be a little bit careful with it or it can smudge - even after curing. Great question!
Thanks! I am going to give this a try ! That pumpkin looks so very pretty! Just love it! Mica comes in so many pretty colors, guess I am going to have to get them all! lol!
Definitely, Cindy!
Hi Peepla! Yes, the rubber stamps are a pretty inexpensive way to fancy up the soap! I just did my Pumpkin Spice soaps today, in fact. :)

So cute and a good way to use my stamps that I don't use anymore! Thx!

What an adorable idea! Your soap must smell sooo good!! Valerie :)
I sprayed mine with alcohol afterwards....it turned out to be a good idea to hold the mica on for a few washes.
Thank you, Darlene! Hope you'll try it out!

Thank you for sharing that! I have a LOT of stampin' up stamps and I would like to try this!
Staci Perry You're welcome! Have fun!!

Diana
Great!! I'm gonna have to try this! Your pumpkin soap looks so yummy!!!
How cute & simple thanks for sharing, Louise
I use ink stamps too. Best to use right after slicing when soap is soft. A lot cheaper than soap stamps which I also have. Great idea. Lovely soap too.
Southphxgirl Nava Yes, I agree! Thanks!! 😊
Does the mica stay put? There's no indent in the soap, correct? So does the mica just brush away?
Thank you, Karen!
awesome idea!!! question...does the mica rub off the soap or does it stay good after curing? Thanks, Deb
How are you keeping the mica on? Mica rubs off as soon as you touch it and smears when you put something on it!
Hi Amy, on a different topic, I am new to soap making and LOVE it. I've never met anyone who made soap before and since I've gotten into it I'm amazed at how large the soaping community is! What a great idea!!! You can't do this on older bars of soap?
Good luck, Jenny! Hope you find a great stamp!
That is so pretty!!!
Thank you, Valerie! Yes, I would highly recommend trying a bar or two - it's pretty amazing!! :)
I don't think it works as well. The mica sticks to the fresh soap and the stamp is able to leave a bit of an indent.
Wonderful idea. After watching this video, I tried the stamping with some pearl dust I had leftover from my cake decorating days. Seems to work just fine. :-)
How fun!! Glad you were inspired. :)
That's a really cool idea I've actually thought of it myself but hadn't done it I like to know if it smears thank you for your videos
It does some. If you can press the stamp into the soap just a bit so it's not directly on the surface, that helps. It's really just for fun until the first or second use. :)
I'm sure it wasn't originally mine, but I haven't seen others doing it lately so thought I would post about it. :)
Oh, I know!! I would be great if it did! :)
Oh good!! Have fun, Diana! :)
Thanks! Hope you try it! :)
Great idea! Very cute!
Well, they've held up pretty well so far, but I'm sure that would help!
What a great idea, thanks for sharing!
You certainly have to be careful with it as it can rub off, but if you indent it enough, you shouldn't have too much trouble with it. :)
Just wondering, wont the mica stamp just rub off if its not embedded somehow?
It's indented slightly into the soap if you stamp it while it's fresh and still soft. But overall, yes, it's a temporary design. :)
I'm sure you can find some great ones, Suzy! :)
If you stamp it after saponification, once it has cured, how do you clean it, plane & bevel, etc.?
I only bevel it later - and very carefully. 😊

Soap by Kick It Up A Notch - Ronda Scorpio Thank you, Ronda! It's a simple technique that gives a nice temporary design. Of course you may share it!
thank you for sharing Amy... I cant wait to try this.... carol :)

Good afternoon and hi could you please tell me does the mica
come off the soap as soon as you put it in to water xx
louise lill It will come off in the first few washes, yes. One person commented that she sprayed the soap with rubbing alcohol and it helped set the mica. It's definitely a temporary design!
Thank you Amy I have a lot of stamps very good idea thank you very much xx
Thank you, Katie!! LOVE Hobby Lobby! :)
Will the mica last longer on the soap of you spray it with alcohol?
corena garoutte I couldn't say, as I've never tried it. The mica is going to wash off after a couple of uses no matter what you do though since it's just a surface treatment. All in good fun!
Nicely done!
Thank you, Stella! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Would this work on MP soaps?
Does the mica rub off? I imagine it would Amy.
+Teal Allshouse If you rub at it, it will definitely come off. It stays on until the customer decides to use the bar though. :)
Cool, thanks
super cute! Thanks
amazing!
Very nice, thanks
Wow! That is dark. I only use naturals and pure essential oils, but, my pumpkin soaps all are either the bright orange of natural pumpkin, or the color of pumpkin pie. What is making yours so dark?
Love the stamp ideas. 😁
It's the fragrance, Brenda.
Amy Warden Oh thank you. I've never seen that.
I actually like the color you show in the video, but, you said it gets darker.
Brenda, most fragrances that have a lot of vanilla in them will darken the soap...depending on the fragrance, it can be anywhere from a light tan to nearly black. They do this gradually during the cure.
your the best!
????? Does the soap has to be one plain color
It doesn't have to be - but it may help the stamp to show up better if it is. :)
Does it work for mnp soap?
I haven't tried it, but MP soap base is much harder and probably wouldn't form an impression. You might have a design from the mica on the surface only and it would probably smear.
Pretty❣️
Is it permanent?
Until you wash it off, yes! 😀
very cute, too bad that reddish soap won't stay that color, it's beautiful!
Does it smear?
It can! I'm very careful with the bars while beveling the edges and packaging.
Nah, just willing to share some ideas. :)
Ummm, thank you? :)
lame designs
