Hi there! Yes you can and that’s actually what we did. You can typically arrange this through your hotel’s front desk. I recommend arranging it at least the day before you want to leave, as it’s a 3 hour drive each way, and you usually leave pretty early in the morning.

Can you recommend a driver or service you got from Aswan to Abu Simbel and how much it cost?

Hey, thanks for commenting! We can’t recommend a specific service, but we can explain what we did. When we got to our hotel in Aswan, we asked if they had a contact that they recommend using for tours. They then reached out to him on our behalf, and everything was arranged through the hotel. We could have potentially got a better rate by walking down the street and talking with the many people who will approach you, but we didn’t want the hassle.
We also felt that the recommended driver might be less likely to try and scam us as he gets business directly from the hotel. We can’t remember exactly how much we paid, but we ended up negotiating further rides with him after we did our day trip.
Our recommendation is that once you find someone who seems trustworthy, you can negotiate further tours or even long distance trip with them and they will secure all permits for you. Our drivers brother drove us the next day from Aswan to Luxor since we liked his driving so much. Hope that helps!
