I’ve recently finished the 2 ship to harkinian PC port and I really loved my experience with this game. All though I am waiting for the Recomp to get updated whenever they add Ocarina of time onto the Recomp.
I am so ridiculously excited for this!! The original Ship of Harkinian for Ocarina of Time has sooooo many options and settings available. I can't wait for them to make their way over to 2S2H as they update their releases.
These PC ports are unironically the first time I actually give the N64 Zelda's - especially Majora's Mask - a chance. Given I replied to you under another video that I disliked the N64 games, this says a lot. Widescreen and stable 30, 60 or more fps makes a massive difference.
Watch the Digital Foundry video. Alex down-sampled the recompiled version to 480p and it looks PERFECT 😍 * by far the best option, and it's just getting started ;D
I have a feeling that Ship of Harkinian 2 will be the version that will get all the MM mods while the recompile will be more of a vanilla + thing. Glad to see both are finally out though.
Im happy this is out, but after playing the first SOH and then the Recomp of MM, I realised that I prefer the recomp for many reasons. Smaller reasons being: more natural animations at higher framerates, downsampling, easy gyro. But the biggest thing is that SOH offered you so many QOL options that I ended up using them. Which didnt ruin my experience of OOT. But would 100% ruin my experience of MM. Majoras Mask isn't a game that is made better if you can make it as comfortable as you want. MM is meant to feel oppressive and you are meant to play the game in a different way than you would any other Zelda. Theres a sense of urgency and dread, which when removed, does kill the soul of the game (at least for me). Its like playing the Arrange mode on Resident Evil 2's PC port where you get a gattling gun. When you trivialize the 'difficulty'. You remove the mood from the game. And MM isnt even difficult, it just feels that way because of the oppressive mood it sets. Its wonderful. But im happy for the people who want a more catered experience.

I'm very much ignorant of these topics, but I'm curious to ask, can the "n64 to pc port" be translated to other console systems? Is this even possible for something like the saturn or the playstation, or why not, the other gen like ps2 and gamecube? This is amazing, considering that the n64 was stuck in a certain emulation hell, so jumping to fpga and then this is just crazy.
@@HighFuel90 thanks for sharing! I cannot wait to see how this affects the industry, I wonder if this would make much easier to distribute old games for modern consoles outside emulation, or to create new versions of old games even, super excited for the future! Thanks 🙏
personally i prefer to forego 60 fps 16.6 jitter fix and instead opt for 40 fps with 12 jitter fix. its almost as good as 60 but makes certain minigames easier since its only double the frames instead of triple which can cause some unnatural speedup
lol MM looks so bad in ultrawide, it's like squinting --)--, 16:9 isn't quite as horrible but still loses nearly 50% of the original vertical resolution and pixel real estate, that said, what would be pretty cool, at least as an alternative because I love full-frame 4:3, is 16:10, this would preserve 100% of the vertical resolution, and add extra width for those that like it, and you won't be letter-boxing half the screen out any more, they keep doing this to old TV shows too, letter-boxing Simpsons & Buffy on streaming platforms so half the frame is missing, thankfully I have the full-frame 4:3 originals.
I feel like that MM recompilation thing by Wiseguy blatantly helped this get over the line, tbh. S2H2 definitely used it to figure out the final remaining bits of code, the actual ZRET decomp project is still at 94.73% matching 😅
I think I remember the Ship of Harkinan team announcing it was 100% decompiled a few months ago. I believe the last of decompilation was finished outside of the ZeldaRET project if memory serves.
Wrong. The Recomp doesn't produce human readable code, it would be of absolute minimum to NO help in a 99+% completed decompilation. That being said, the MM Recomp is still my preferred version. But both are awesome
@@VideoGameEsoterica Fair enough, but the point stands. In fact, it's the opposite of what OP said. The decomp allowed Wiseguy to find what approximate parts of the MIPS assembly do what in the game. According to Nerrel's video (which was a collaboration with Wiseguy), because Wiseguy had a decomp to reference already, he was able to quickly make the MMRecomp (the N64Recomp process is not yet perfect, I'd guess that some control flow issues still need to be ironed out)! But, again, why even pit the two against one another? They're both awesome and provide different features and pros/cons. We need them both. And again, personally, I'm WAY more hyped for the N64Recomp tool than any decompilation, because it means less popular games (which won't get the years long and arduous Decompilation treatment) will now have a chance to be ported to modern machines! (I may try my hand at a recomp once the tool is more mature, maybe Forsaken?). Sorry if I sounded "rude" previously, but just trying to combat misinformation about decomps vs recomps.
So if I understand this correctly ship2 is not from the same person/team as SoH, there has been no updates to the SoH website and the build since August and no mention of ship2 or Majoras Mask, ship2 has not gotten updated for 5 months and is still on version 1.0 . Mario 64 pc is still a piece of shit to get ready and play and did not seem to get the same nice treatment as LoZ, and most of the information is still hidden behind stupid Discord servers. What the hell is going on?
yeah i'm really hoping they get 2S2H up to par with SoH. did a side by side comparison of 2S2H and the Recomp last night and yeah, unfortunately there's quite a few things with 2S2H that look wrong. Animations skip frames, the night sky rotates at a lower framerate than what the rest of the game is rendering at at the time, some effects look funky, the HUD is blurry, the lighting looks kinda weird, and the most annoying part is that it slows down after you play 15 or so minutes on the dot every single time to the point you have to reboot so you can play it normally again. from what i've tested with the Recomp, it has NONE of those issues. but i did love SoH a lot, there's a lot of cool functionality they added to that so i'm hoping they get 2S2H up to fluff eventually.

Yes I’m sure it’ll look a lot different in 6 to 12 months

I mean it has a lot of QOL improvements. Not surprised
No downsampling is a bummer! Hopefully that can be added at some point. I've really come to love that look for 240p games.
Considering this is just the first release I’m sure a lot more features will be added going forward :)

Totally fair opinion. But no clip is king for video captures haha. Speeds my process way up!
The recomp supports romhacks as well as having less limitations by using a different rendering engine with work on the way for real time raytracing!
Ray tracing will be a fun bonus feature. Because I sure don’t play modern games on my PC. Just edit 🤣
The recomp supports romhacks? Really?

Goldeneye Recompilation with online multiplayer, and the world will stand still.
Now that’s an idea for sure
PD has a decomp port too. Vid soon
The animations looks better on the recomp version for some reason. Everything looks better there.
I think it’s blending the animations a bit smoother
Where is the website? I can find a ship of harkinian website but not a 2 ship 2 harkinian website.
Add GitHub to the search
Any known texture packs?
Not that I’ve seen yet
When this is finished this may be the definitive way to play majoras mask!
We’re gonna have a lot of definitive editions these days
So cool that we basically have two fan remakes for the 64 zeldas games that offer more features and QoL than the official 3ds remakes.
It’s a good time to be a Zelda fan

The answer is yes, and it already happened with sm64.

Anything can be decompiled and ported to new target hardware. But as it gets to more complex hardware the decomp can get trickier
Majora's Mask sure is getting some love lately! Much like how you treat mom!

It’s nice the options are so granular to allow for that
istg if this has a multi world randomizer like the n64 mm and oot rando
I bet it will eventually
please reply to this comment with the o2r and z64 download of the game, I'm hunting like a demon for these files to be able to play the game
